Dude, these shorts are the real deal! I've worn them hiking, kayaking, and even just for a casual day out and they've held up great. The 5-inch inseam hits just right and allows for plenty of movement, so you can do whatever activities you want without feeling restricted. The fabric is quick-drying, which is perfect for water activities or when you're sweating up a storm. Plus, they're made with environmentally friendly materials, which is a total win in my book.

...still thinking about it. I have three other regular 5" baggies, but decided to try these light ones because I liked how that sounded and also wanted to try a longer cut. Loved them. The mesh fabric feels a lot better than on the 5" ones (no idea if its the same material) and the pockets are deeper and more convenient. Still haven't figured out how they are "lighter" than the regulars, maybe when it gets warmer? The only drawbacks are the drawstrings and the "safe" pocket. The first are just too thin. Sometimes you tie them twice not being able to feel if they are already tied and that's a hassle. Then they are designed on the inside of the waistband, again. I'm still not sure about this standard, no matter how many Patagonia pants/shorts I have with that are ... More...still thinking about it. I'm still not sure about this standard, no matter how many Patagonia pants/shorts I have with that are string-inside, this thing has never convinced me, yet that's how these are. You tie them up and there you have that knot bulging there between the waistband and your skin. The other thing is the "secure" pocket inside the stash-away pocket (which I haven't used yet and can't think of a situation in which I'd use it–it's a short not a windbreaker or rain layer–you can't go like, "oh, lemme take off my pants here in the middle of nowhere and put on these other pants I have clipped on my whatever", you know?), the pocket sounds like a good idea, but it's just too difficult to finger into your keys inside of it without looking weird doing it. "Oh it has a string"–yes but I have nothing on my key chain to clip unto it. Does anyone does and if so, why would you need the second pocket? Dunno, these two things make took that star for me and keep me from getting another one. Try it tho. I like these shorts otherwise and have been using them quite a lot.

Okay so long story short (pun not intended) the shorts are amazing. Theyre a great alternative to the classic 5 inch baggies. They still have the canvas-y stiffness that keeps their shape but they are a bit softer than the baggies which I love. However I feel like the legs are bigger in proportion than I anticipated them to be. I love that theyre loose fitting and casual though!

I was hoping that these would be a good replacement for the 5" Baggies since Patagonia has changed the cut of those, but unfortunately these are not the same. The most awkward thing is that there's a weird poof of fabric on either side of the front vertical seam, which sort of looks like it's meant to accommodate male anatomy. It is really not attractive on shorts meant for women. I tried rolling the waistband down, and that helps a bit, but then they're too low rise in the back if you have any sort of butt. The other thing is that the leg openings are huge. I love the loose fit of the Baggies, but the leg openings on the Funhoggers are about 1.5 inches wider in diameter, which gives them a look reminiscent of culottes from the 80s. I love the loose fit of the Baggies, but the leg openings on the Funhoggers are about 1.5 inches wider in diameter, which gives them a look reminiscent of culottes from the 80s. Not necessarily a bad thing, but when paired with the extra fabric in the front region, it makes them look pretty silly. I went with my usual size and the waist fits perfectly, so it's not just a sizing issue. On the plus side, the print is really cute, the fabric feels sturdy, and the pockets are wonderfully deep (they actually go all the way down to the bottom hem on the legs). But going to stick with my old school Baggies for now and hope they last for many more years.
Something about the cut gives them no range of motion.Black color seems already faded upon receip. The inner liner provides no support. As other commented, the pockets are too deep.Waisband is too narrow and its fabric is rough and uncomfortable. It's cool that they use recycled materials, but they shouldn't be way worse than 25$ shorts, and they are.I have a 31 inch waist, chose the small and I'd say it's the right size. Otherwise the waist would be too big.Anyway, don't buy these shorts.
These are what I consider the perfect swim trunks for me. It’s made by Patagonia, so you already know it’s good (no matter what the “woke haters” will say, they are a really seem like a socially-responsible company ). They have an inner mesh lining, have a short inseam, pockets and a little loop in one to put your keychain on. I got the dusky rose colour and it was perfect. I have a couple of these now.
I purchased the black ones last year. I got so much use out of them that I had to g et the grey ones this year. I wear them everywhere. They are lightweight, easy to maintain, have deep pockets and a snap button closure on the back pocket. I'll be taking these on my summer trip this year as they are super versatile. They tend to sell out fast at the beginning of the season. You have to buy them when they become available in March/April to get your hands on them.
Runs large. I’m normally M but had to exchange for a small which fits me well. Quick drying multipurpose everyday shorts I’ve used swimming gym and general everyday use. Very comfortable although I do prefer the natural baggies for comfort and style even though they are not as versatile. Also the natural baggies are true to size.
Not sure why they chose to call these "baggies." These are their own thing. The fit is different. The fabric is different. They are longer, and are missing a back pocket.I love 'em both "equally but differently," just like Mom said about little Sis and me––although I'm pretty sure she loved Sis more. It was fairly obvious. Everyone thinks so. Why, Mama? Why?
When you find thee one, you just know.I cant imagine a body type these wouldn't look great on. I like my shorts to have a wider baggy leg butt area and a cinch waist. The pockets nailed it for me too. A necessity for sure if you're into comfort. Bought my first pair in the natural tone, will be buying all the colors, will not have buyers remorse. The construction feels legit, time will tell on that aspect. If you have tendencies to adjust length depending on outfit, the waist rolls down nicely with access to pockets still.
