The Fitz Roy Down Hoody gets 4 1/2 stars based off initial impressions. I would give it 5 stars BUT I think the hood needs a slight tweak to it's design that will enable it to grab the circumference of your head with a wool hat on a bit more securely AND it's pricey. The Fitzroy is a featherweight and feels refreshingly light when you have it on.The 800 fill power down feels plus, comfy and toasty. Love the blue zippers on the Smolder Blue. The jackets overall color looks a bit better than how it's represented online. Love ALL of the pockets. You get a LOT of storage space. 2 chest pockets. 2 handwarmer and 1 internal drop-in pocket. Zippers are smooth. Elasticized wrist cuffs and a drawcord hem seal out strong gusts of wind. The only downsides to ... MoreThe Fitz Roy Down Hoody gets 4 1/2 stars based off initial impressions. I would def recommend this piece of you love lightweight warm down pieces with lots of storage .

Like a high-maintanance girlfriend - hot, expensive and something you're proud to show off. But as soon as something goes wrong, you're up the creek. This jacket is well designed, lightweight, extremely warm and very packable. But it suffers from all the same problems as any other down jacket. Much of it's insulation properties are out the window as soon as it gets wet and if the jacket catches and rips it looks like a co-ed's dormroom during a pillowfight. Provided you use the jacket as intended and treat it with the respect it deserves, it will serve you well. Just note that it isn't very durable, it doesn't block wind very well, it doesn't like rain, running waterfalls of sweaty, high exertion pursuits and it isn't cheap. It comes with a small stuff sack but I wish it packed up into a pocket like smaller, less filled down jackets. Otherwise, best high loft down belay parka I've owned for a long time.

I originally purchased the Fitz Roy jacket in 2019 and loved it. I decided to replace it this year but was disappointed to find that the design has changed. Much less insulation and overall feels like it is cheaply made. Yes, it is also cheaper in price but it has lost its purpose for me. Please bring back the previous version which was great. I will be returning the new version and looking for something warmer.
Colour as expected, a dark olive.Fit is true to expectations.Lots of pockets.Hood seems to fit well.Should be good for colder weather and for breaks during high output activities.
I have had this jacket for many years and it has finally given up on me. It has been put through the ringer many times over. I use it for winter hikes and mostly snowboarding. I really cuts the down the wind. Pockets are soft. Its super warm even in -30 Celsius. Super light weight. I am 5'10". The arm length seemed a little short but my arms are long. If I were to give it any knock the outer fabric tore easily. I hit a many branches snowboarding and it tore numerous times and had to patch it up. Also it doesn't like heat as I melted the wrist once getting it too close to the snowblower exhaust. Overall I am super happy with it and plan on retiring it to be recycled. I will be buying another jacket this winter and it will be another Patagonia product. Excellent product.
I purchased the Fitz Roy jacket in hopes that it would meet my needs for shoulder-season river trips where the night temps can drop into the 20's-30's. The jacket fit well with a fuller cut to allow for layering and the sleeve and body length were perfect. The down fill is a step up from their Down Sweater Hoody which I own, but still lighter than my Rab Neutrino, which I was hoping to replace. But with layering it would have met my needs. The issue I found was with the design of the hood and the single-pull drawcord for adjustment. Fully zipped up, the collar came to the bottom of my chin. With the hood on there was a lot of open space around my face and neck because the opening is so large. Using the single-pull drawcord, I can get the hood snug around my face ... With the hood on there was a lot of open space around my face and neck because the opening is so large. Using the single-pull drawcord, I can get the hood snug around my face and chin but then the tension of the drawcord circling around the top of my head is uncomfortably tight. This isn't the case with my Down Sweater Hoody where the hood fits snugly over my chin and around my face when zipped up with only a small amount of tension on the drawcord. If there wasn't an issue with the hood design I would give this a 5-star rating. I expect more from Patagonia when designing functional outdoor gear.
Love Patagonia, but I'm sorry to say the Fitz Roy Hoody offers little value for the price.Sewn-through construction for a $500 jacket is just poor. Yes it keeps weight down, but makes for a less insulating jacket. I've purchased 800-loft down jackets with fully baffled construction for much less from well-known brands.Add to that the fact that this jacket is scarcely thicker than the Down Sweater and I really wonder what I'm paying for. After a day of trying to shake the jacket out and get the down to loft, the jacket is still < 2" thick from back to front... Ideal for keeping warm at the beach when the temperature plummets below 25C...Not ideal.
When it is time for a new Jacket I just click on the Patagonia link, I am pretty certain that I have a Patagonia jacket for every season, I can't see any reason to change that. Patagonia fits well, wears well and is light and comfortable. If I'm outdoors with a jacket on, it's probably a Patagonia jacket.
I like this jacket. I am 5’10” and 215 lbs. XL fit great, with room for a layer underneath. Jacket is very warm and Super Light. Gonna be great for travel. Expensive, but Patagonia gear is all expensive. Very Nice Jacket.
