This jacket is well worth the money, its nicely made, with good attention to detail and stitching that will hold up to daily use. Its also very warm, I was surprised at how warm it was given how light it is. I have been using the jacket for a few weeks now, and so far its been great for walking the dogs in the cold mornings. It doesn't trap my sweat despite having a really nice warm soft lining. Its also water resistant, so its been great to have for the cold rain we are getting. The arm pockets are placed perfectly for me, so I'm very comfortable walking and standing up outside. It also has great wind resistance, I don't feel any wind through the jacket at all, and the hood works really well. I would absolutely buy this again. Only cons are keeping the inner lining clean, it doesn't run all the way down the arms, so that helps. The pockets are nice and deep, with plenty of storage for phone, keys etc. Overall I'm super happy with the jacket, we will see how well it holds up. My previous jacket worked well for 10 years or so, and I am now using it as my coat for yard work, etc.

This was not as warm as I was hoping for northern Wisconsin winters; but its a nice jacket. As for the size. I agree with many other reviewers, it is very tight around the neck area and you cannot zip the jacket up all the way up without discomfort. Its not something I am going to deal with at this price point. You would probably have to size up quite a bit to find the space you want to zip the full jacket and its hard to know how the rest would fit at that point. For reference I am 5 foot 8 inches; 170 with a 40 inch chest and overall wide shoulder and muscular build and I bought a medium. The medium didnt work.

I had been looking a long time to find the perfect all-around cold weather coat. I believe this is it. It has all the features I was looking for including length, articulated elbows, action back (all coats should have this), hood, and plenty of storage pockets. I would use a more specialized coat in extremely cold weather (negative temps to teens or early twenties). Only two things I wish I could change would be to add a little more room in the neck when fully zipped and very slightly more room in the shoulders for athletic builds. Would be interesting to see a fully quilted lining too, although the fleece lining is nice.

It is a nice-looking coat. However, there is no way this is a parka. There is almost no insulation in the sleeves. The fleece is insufficient to keep me warm. It is probably OK for early fall, or requires multiple layers underneath. I would like to see the person who designed it parachuted into the Arctic while wearing this and try to stay warm.
I got this for my huband because we're now living in a cold winter area. It's roomy enough for him to wear a flannel shirt and vest under it, giving layers. It's just as comfortable without the extra layers. He loves it, and we're considering buying a backup! Only con is that Patagonia doesn't give washing instructions in English. You can figure out from icons the h2o temperature and dryer setting, but not which cycle to wash on. C'mon Patagonia!
I use this coat at our mountain cabin. It's great to throw on, button up, go out and do a couple of chores. No need to zip it up with these great buttons. Comfortable, versatile, warm, soft interior, and the exterior is strong when I'm carrying wood as it doesn't scratch or leave a mark. But it's a little small for an XL and the top button is not able to be buttoned. My neck's large but not bulbous, and there's no way this will button up. I could lose 20 pounds and this still wouldn't button. So, I think this coat is for moderately large men who think they should be XL coat wearers who also possess thinner necks. That's my only take away.
Bought this jacket for an overseas trip to Chicago in December/January, was fantastic. Wore only a tshirt and jumper under the jacket, was fantastic in the mid-west winter. A few times when wearing a jumper underneath actually too hot (I do run a bit hot though). Would absolutely recommend to those looking for a jacket beyond the normal "puff" winter jacket.
I had to size up in this jacket. Now everyone has a different body shape/type so sizing up may not be needed for everyone. For reference, I own a silent down in XL and a stretch nano storm in XL. However, in a down sweater or nano puff I need XXL. I dont like my jackets fitting like gloves on me. In XL this jacket made me think "this is a very nice jacket" but in XXL it was "this jacket is amazing". VERY warm. 100% warmer than my silent down. With just a tshirt under this jacket I can be very comfortable to 20 degrees, with my silent down I would say 30 would be the lowest before Id want a long sleeve under it. Ive worn this jacket while it was actively snowing and while playing in the snow with my child. It was 14 degrees out and I had a therm long sleeve under the ... MoreI had to size up in this jacket. It was 14 degrees out and I had a therm long sleeve under the jacket, the jacket kept ALL moisture out but I did manage to work up a little sweat just by very minimal amount of activity. This jacket will keep me and you warm to any temps without needing a bunch of under layers. This jacket is by far one of the best winter jackets Patagonia has to offer.
I have owned the Patagonia Isthmus Parka for approximately 2 months. During that time I have used it in 9 Degree weather with decent winds and light rain. The good: The outer shell on this jacket has done a good job resisting wind and light rain. The jacket as a whole has kept me warm in temperatures as low as 9 degrees as a stand alone jacket, the fleece on the inside does a great job of insulating. I'm also a fan of the insulated side pockets as well as the snap button pockets. Another hug plus is the jacket is extremely stylish. The bad: I wear a large in all other men's clothing. However, the fit of this jacket is very small. Everytime I bend down it unsnaps the button on the bottom of the jacket and the zipper becomes undone. However, the fit of this jacket is very small. Everytime I bend down it unsnaps the button on the bottom of the jacket and the zipper becomes undone. It is also very tight if you attempt to zip the jacket all the way up in order to cover your neck, chin, and lower face which allows wind to hit the neck and face area. Another hug downside is the hood is very small and does not drape over the head enough which allows wind inside the hood and right in your face. I almost never size up but in this instance I would highly suggest doing so.All in all, I am in love with the style of this jacket and I am impressed with its ability to keep me warm as a stand alone jacket. The sizing is a major inconvenience and sizing up may be the best option if you're interested in the Patagonia Isthmus Parka.
I bought this for my husband who is 5'10ish, slim build @150-155. The medium fit great, he loves that it is streamlined & he doesn't feel ridiculous wearing it. I bought him a puffy parka/fur hood once and he refused to wear it but he likes this one. He likes the soft interior & that it has a hood. We are in michigan, it seems like it will be good for our cold & wet winters.
