Comfortable. Durable. Great.

My new favorite go-to shorts for warm weather. The fabric is lightweight and breathable yet surprisingly rugged, the pockets are right-sized and functional, the fit is perfect. These do get a bit wrinkly after a few washings (especially if you leave them in the drier), but not so much that I would ever care. These are great shorts - you'll want to live in a pair during the dog days of summer.

Patagonia is my favorite brand. I was pumped to get these shorts. However, the sizing is a little bizarre. I'm 5 feet 8 inches and 170 pounds, the medium was too tight in the butt and legs. Waist was fine. Sized up and the large was way too big. Not sure who these were intended to fit. Will be purchasing a similar product from Lululemon instead.

I love these shorts. They're extremely comfortable and light weight and looked nice when I first got them. However, after washing they quickly started to streak on the front of the legs. The front legs have a orangish use on them, and the areas where the materials fold a little bit while sitting (up near the pockets) have this orange color in the folds, making them always appear as though they are wrinkled.I'm not sure what would cause this. I've only had them a few months and only really wear them for home casual and office use. It's really unfortunate because these were my favorite shorts and I still wear them out of comfort, but I don't were them out as much now because they simply look terrible. Not durable
19 March 2023

These are comfortable shorts for both around the house and outdoor activities.Compared to the previous version of the All Wear Shorts that were 100% cotton, they're flimsy and wear out too quickly. The older ones were made with a much thicker material and easily lasted 5-6 years. But these look noticeably worn out at 2 years and by year 3 the edge of the short bottom is completely frayed. For all the noise Patagonia has been making about sustainable living, its odd that they make a product with such a short lifespan. Also, why no 10 inch inseam anymore?

Not my style

The fit around the waist is good. However, the way the legs are designed and cut is weird. They should have an almost imperceptible taper, it would make them less stodgy, but instead they go straight down and almost flare out in this odd boxy silhouette that isnt stylish or flattering. Its not even dad shorts, its grandpa shorts. The material itself is a bit like crepe paper. I was expecting it to be thick and casual but it looks thin and formal like one of those cheap looking suits made from a shiny fabric except its matte. It needs to be thick and ropey and hang like the trail harbor line, those are excellent casual pieces. Would not recommend for a casual, worn in short.

Perfect all around shorts
12 March 2023

The best shorts I've found yet. They are the perfect blend of durable from the hemp, but also super comfortable and soft from the cotton weaved into it. I love the light blue color I got, and they fit just right in sizing, not too loose that they look too big, but also not restricting movement by being too tight.Perfect for casual wear or anything really except maybe intense running in which I'd opt for something a bit more breathable / synthetic material.

Sizing is just off.

I have other Patagonia shorts in the same size that I purchased these in. I like them a lot, and was hopeful that these Hemp shorts would be even better. Reading through all the reviews that are of a similar size to me, I was fairly confident that I had the right size. Sadly, they're just too small. The waist is probably 36" - that part is fine. The legs themselves are too tight. If you spend any time on a bike like I do, you might find them too tight too.It is a shame. They look and feel fantastic. The colour of the blue I picked up is great. I'd be swapping them for a larger size if I actually had a store closer to me. Instead, I'm going to pay $38 in shipping by the time I've sent them back. Which probably means I don't take chances on Patagonia items online ... MoreI have other Patagonia shorts in the same size that I purchased these in. Very comfortable but not durable.

I'm a little bummed writing this review, because I really love these shorts. They're super lightweight and breathable, and they dry really fast which is great in the summer in Chicago. They're pretty much my go to shorts, however they have a pretty major flaw. The seat wears very quickly and has a tendency to tear horizontally. Naturally, this has led to a couple embarrassing moments. I had one tear on the right side repaired, but less than a week after I received them back the left side ripped. These aren't my "active" shorts by any means either. I mostly sit on my office chair or my bike saddle, so it's clear the hemp fabric just wears very poorly. I'll probably end up going with cotton since it seems to be a bit more durable. Still two stars though since they're ... MoreI'm a little bummed writing this review, because I really love these shorts. Very comfy with great style, but fit not consistent with other Lightweight All-Wear

These are absolutely fantastic shorts that feel quality and have a really nice looking style, but there's a couple things that keep me from unconditionally recommending them. Compared to the Non-Volley, 6" All-Wear Hemp Shorts, the fit is quite a bit different. These have an overall much looser fit, with a lot more extra fabric hanging down around the crotch (which also makes them feel a good bit heavier), so while there's only a 1" inseam difference, compared to the 6" Shorts these 7" Volley Shorts rest ~3-3.5" lower on my leg when I stand up, basically down to the top of my knee (basically, the same as the model in the display pictures). For me, these sit in a really awkward place in the Patagonia line-up. They're quite long, and while baggier than the 6" All-wears, they're not baggy enough that they don't feel a bit restrictive (especially if you have thicker thighs like I do), an issue that wouldn't be quite as bad if not for the length. Their length and semi-bagginess also mean that for a very hot summer's day where you really want to wear something light, that I feel like in almost every circumstance that the Baggies Naturals are a better fit for you, with their much lighter fabric and baggier legs--or the standard Baggies themselves of course, if their swimsuit style is more your thing. If you're someone who likes your shorts hanging that low, these are absolutely great and definitely the choice for you. Or if you're just a lanky person with very long legs, these should probably be in your shopping cart already. For others, I won't say these are a bad purchase--I still think they're very nice, but I think that for most people, there are probably better shorts in Patagonia's lineup for you. Personally, I'd love to see these revised in some way--maybe a smidge less baggy in the crotch area to bring the leg of the short up a bit, and/or maybe a big baggier in the leg itself. Or, maybe just make the legs a little less short on their own? Either way, these are still a good pair of shorts that haven't done anything wrong, which is why I give them 5* in spite of my criticisms above--I just don't think they've done as much right (particularly with the fit) as other shorts Patagonia sells.

light and easy shorts

I wear these type shorts (M, L sizes) versus the Patagonia shorts that are produced in specific sizes (32, 34, etc.). Mainly because I have encountered too much variation in specific sized pants of any type, not just Patagonia brand. I like these shorts. They are big in the waist on me, but there's a drawstring for that. I hate tight fitting pants, shorts, etc., and I have muscular legs which makes the mediums fine in the waist but a bit too restricting. They are lightweight and basically I do not notice them - which is the key for me - if I notice the clothing it is restricting. The only thing I would change is a little more material where the crotch meets the inseam. I also wear the Baggies Naturals and the Stand Up shorts.
