I have a pair of Patagonia pants I have used for the past 6 years. I probably have over 300 days of hard skiing on them. They have held up great but are finally getting worn out so I decided to replace them with the Storm Shift. I have a 31" waist and my current Patagonia pant is a medium so that's what I initially ordered. I pulled the side tabs in as far as I could but the pants were still too loose and wouldn't stay up. So I returned the medium and got a small. The small was way too tight even with the side tabs all the way out. There's a serious sizing problem if I don't fit in one of these sizes. If your waist is 28"-30" the small will work for you. Don't get the medium unless your waist is 33"-35". If you're in the 31"-32" zone, find another pant.

Love these ski pants! New Favorite. Taught in rain/sleet and sat on slushy/wet chairlift for an entire ski lesson and my Butt Stayed Dry! Very Beefy design and functional. Pockets allow ample storage. 1st Patagonia Pant without suspenders. Suspenders would greatly improve this pant to be even more Awesome. 32 waist, 155lbs, 5'10" Pant are true to size, but loose in waist. Allow option to wear suspenders with loops. This pant would be an excellent GORE-TEX candidate for bibs. Don't change a thing to the pant, simply add front zip bib top with chest pockets. Storm Shift Series GORE-TEX BIBS under $500 would make a great affordable Bib to work and play in! I would like your 1st Pair, medium in Black or Green. As a Ski Patrol (boarder) working 12 hr days, I needed gear that would keep me dry. Not once did I get damp when kneeling in slush or sitting on wet lifts, hour after hour. The pants run a tad big/baggy, but I also had plenty of room for full extension. Next time around, I'll get something insulated for those single digit days, but I was plenty warm with my thickest base layer. Very breathable yet blocks wind, never had to dry them after long days like cheaper pants that trap moisture. Exceeded all expectations.

The Powder Bowl pants fit well. Not baggy like the Snow Shot pants but not slim like other pants. The knee articulation point seems to line up better with my knee when compared to the Snow Shot pants. I appreciate the fact that the hip vents are now on the outside of the legs versus on the inside of the legs like some pants. I use Capaline in different weights based on temperature, these 2ply pants are warmer than the 3ply options due to the mesh fabric liner. I do like the mesh lining on the vents on my ski pants (but not on my jacket), this helps keep excess snow from coming in the pants if you happen to unexpectedly hip check the slope. The fabric is nice and smooth and doesn’t bind with your jacket. I have used the clip between my jacket and pants a few times ... MoreThe Powder Bowl pants fit well. Not baggy like the Snow Shot pants but not slim like other pants. I have used the clip between my jacket and pants a few times in powder days and it didn’t interfere or feel like the jacket or pants were restricted in the back. The pant bottoms are nicely reinforced, but it seems like they are a bit wide when compared to boot sizes. I bet an inch or so could be removed from the pant bottoms to fit a tad trimmer on the boots.I do wear these in the short length, so colors are limited to black which is unfortunate. I think more people should explore the short length versus dealing with their pant cuff getting stuck in bindings or stepping on them when hiking, etc. Durability seems good and there is no wear or tear visible. Hip pocket lines up well with resort RFID readers.
Perfect for resort skiing. Goretex keeps out the wind and the wet. Elastic/velcro waist adjustment plus belt loops make the waist fit easy. My phone needs to stay warm and dry, which it does in the handwarmer pockets. The Regular length and snow cuffs provide excellent compatibility with alpine ski boots.
Dear Patagonia, I love the the design. Ive been using your clothing equipment for many many years. From surfing, fly fishing, skiing etc. Ive tried to find the right ski pants for weeks now. Im not a snow boarder and dont like extra wasted material. Cant stand baggy! Please let me come help your team design the perfect affordable pants for all around mountain performance and lifestyle. Im really bummed i have to send back these pants and continue my search for the right fit with the basic features most skiers are looking for.MD,Peace
Finally got the nerve up to buy some really expensive ski pants after ruining my Columbia pants last year. I ordered before I had a chance to second guess myself. I'm 5'6" and 155 pounds so I figured I'd have to shorten a bit since I usually have to shorten jeans about an 1" but thought the "short" size would be great. The quality of the pants area really nice. Maybe if you are a taller guy, they might work but they were like 6" (maybe more) too long and super baggy. Not just current day snowboarder baggy but you could fit a couple people in them. The flare over the boots were for Godzilla sized boots. I'm not sure why they don't make typical inseam like regular pants because unless you were 5'10" or taller, these are massive. If they made shorter and more trim/straight fit, they would be perfect because you can tell they are really high quality. Returned for refund. Really wanted to buy based on Patagonia mission and recycled material but no dice.
This an excellent ski shell pant. I have skied in a variety of conditions from extremely wet to frigid. These pants will keep you dry and warm with the proper layering. In mild temperatures, 20 degrees and up, a base layer is not necessary as the pants are warm enough. Plus, there is venting if you get too warm. In frigid conditions, 20 to below 0, the addition of an appropriate base layer makes the pant more than comfortable. I like the regular fit because the additional room allows me to go to a heavier base layer depending on conditions.Great pants and well built.
I'm a ski patrol at three different areas and was looking forward to new ski pants. It used to be the size you ordered accommodated base layer(s), but not any more! The size you order barely fits without layers. If I go a size up, then the leg inseam is too long. Patagonia provides a limited selection for men who are under tall. Can't win for losing! "I'm not over weight, I'm under tall".
I have had two pairs of the Powder Bowl pants in past 15 years, one of which was warranty since repairs were not possible. I have put them both through the ringer and back with no complaints . Have never had any issues with waterproof and have used them in many deep days. Simple capilene layer underneath is all that I have ever worn with them and even tried them on a -20 day in the San Juans and was warm. Great for skinning and leg thigh zippers really help with the breath ability. Only gripe I would have would be the inner calf/ankle section can wear out after a couple seasons and for those wearing knee pads you will most likely need to send them in after a few seasons since that area wears down more so than others.Highly recommend them for anyone looking for ... MoreI have had two pairs of the Powder Bowl pants in past 15 years, one of which was warranty since repairs were not possible.
