I have a pair of Patagonia pants I have used for the past 6 years. I probably have over 300 days of hard skiing on them. They have held up great but are finally getting worn out so I decided to replace them with the Storm Shift. I have a 31" waist and my current Patagonia pant is a medium so that's what I initially ordered. I pulled the side tabs in as far as I could but the pants were still too loose and wouldn't stay up. So I returned the medium and got a small. The small was way too tight even with the side tabs all the way out. There's a serious sizing problem if I don't fit in one of these sizes. If your waist is 28"-30" the small will work for you. Don't get the medium unless your waist is 33"-35". If you're in the 31"-32" zone, find another pant.

Suspenders would greatly improve this pant to be even more Awesome. 32 waist, 155lbs, 5'10" Pant are true to size, but loose in waist. Allow option to wear suspenders with loops. This pant would be an excellent GORE-TEX candidate for bibs. Don't change a thing to the pant, simply add front zip bib top with chest pockets. Storm Shift Series GORE-TEX BIBS under $500 would make a great affordable Bib to work and play in! I would like your 1st Pair, medium in Black or Green. Finally found a ski pant to use during off-patrol days that is made of good 'ol time-tested Gore-Tex - this was a big factor in buying the storm shift pants. But, there are other compelling reasons once I tried them on, and then used them for over 17 days. The pockets are placed to make sense, and are highly functional. This pant keeps excellent water protection, vapor breathability is above - average ( even when I wear a base-layer wool pant ) and its really good at windproof. Its THE go -to pant for cranking out lots of vertical on a day off, and holds up well to changing conditions. Great all around ski pants
4 March 2019

The Powder Bowl pants fit well. Not baggy like the Snow Shot pants but not slim like other pants. The knee articulation point seems to line up better with my knee when compared to the Snow Shot pants. I appreciate the fact that the hip vents are now on the outside of the legs versus on the inside of the legs like some pants. I use Capaline in different weights based on temperature, these 2ply pants are warmer than the 3ply options due to the mesh fabric liner. I do like the mesh lining on the vents on my ski pants (but not on my jacket), this helps keep excess snow from coming in the pants if you happen to unexpectedly hip check the slope. The fabric is nice and smooth and doesn’t bind with your jacket. I have used the clip between my jacket and pants a few times ... MoreThe Powder Bowl pants fit well. Not baggy like the Snow Shot pants but not slim like other pants. I have used the clip between my jacket and pants a few times in powder days and it didn’t interfere or feel like the jacket or pants were restricted in the back. The pant bottoms are nicely reinforced, but it seems like they are a bit wide when compared to boot sizes. I bet an inch or so could be removed from the pant bottoms to fit a tad trimmer on the boots.I do wear these in the short length, so colors are limited to black which is unfortunate. I think more people should explore the short length versus dealing with their pant cuff getting stuck in bindings or stepping on them when hiking, etc. Durability seems good and there is no wear or tear visible. Hip pocket lines up well with resort RFID readers.

Medium is too tight, Large too loose
27 September 2023

6', 180lbs, 34" waist.I originally bought these in a Large and had to return them because they were too loose in the waist and too baggy for my liking. Even with the velcro tabs on the waist adjusted all the way tight you could easily pants me, they would slide right down with a gentle tug.So I returned them and bought a Medium. These are too snug in the leg and the waist. With the velcro tabs all the way loose, essentially disconnected, the pants are too tight. Great quality pant with solid features, just wish they fit me. I will have to return and try another model ski pant.

Men's Stormshift Pants
31 October 2023

The pants fit well, true to size with adequate waist adjustment. Length is right. I am concerned that the pants will run hot with the liner, but especially with the relatively short thigh zipper vent. A longer zipper vent that extends from hip to knee would be better for truly venting, making the pants suitable for alpine, telemarking, skinning and late fall, winter and spring time hiking. A full side-zip pant (an older version of these pants) without a liner makes for a more versatile garment, allowing one to alter base layer weight to match the temperature range.

Dear Patagonia, I love the the design. Ive been using your clothing equipment for many many years. From surfing, fly fishing, skiing etc. Ive tried to find the right ski pants for weeks now. Im not a snow boarder and dont like extra wasted material. Cant stand baggy! Please let me come help your team design the perfect affordable pants for all around mountain performance and lifestyle. Im really bummed i have to send back these pants and continue my search for the right fit with the basic features most skiers are looking for.MD,Peace

Refund/Exchange/Warranty

So I haven't actually worn the pants on the slopes yet so this review is about the company more than the pants. But my last pair of snow pants ripped through the crotch. (Thankfully it happened before I left for the day and not on the mountain.) I took them to my local Patagonia retailer and they were AMAZING! They found a comparable pair of pants online and by the time I got home, I had an email saying they had shipped. While I was astounded, I was also not surprised since it's the type of customer service I have come to expect from Patagonia. Thank you!

THE Best Ski Pant
29 February 2024

I have been in the ski business for well over 40 years. The Storm Shift Pant is the best snow sports pant I have ever owned. They are comfortable, bomb proof, light weight and wind & water proof. The light weight inner lining is just enough to keep me warm on many days without a base layer. As for Patagonia Customer Service and their Ironclad Guarantee, its the best in the industry and probably any industry. I had a 3 year old ski pant that was a similar pant. I tore the seam in the crotch and the seam split. Contacted Customer Service, sent the pants back and Patagonia gave me enough credit for a brand new Storm Shift Pant. Patagonia is an amazing company!

This an excellent ski shell
19 March 2023

This an excellent ski shell pant. I have skied in a variety of conditions from extremely wet to frigid. These pants will keep you dry and warm with the proper layering. In mild temperatures, 20 degrees and up, a base layer is not necessary as the pants are warm enough. Plus, there is venting if you get too warm. In frigid conditions, 20 to below 0, the addition of an appropriate base layer makes the pant more than comfortable. I like the regular fit because the additional room allows me to go to a heavier base layer depending on conditions.Great pants and well built.
