These could have only been worn with therma silk and not layered. I need these to keep me dry on puppy walks! The awesome representative helped me find a large. The large is LARGE but I can wear anything underneath and I sure stayed DRY during the 4 days of rain! I'd improve these pants with a much more sturdy waist tie vs what seems like shoe laces. Again my excellent representative helped me learn of the rain jacket mate. I am more than satisfied. I had researched for top Rain gear. These are rated in the top 5 for 2023. Buy a size up! Your wallet will not be depleted with the price either. The excellent prices put them as number 2 on the research site.

Stood up very well to the horizontal rain and brutal winds in Iceland. Walked almost 8 hours in rain and wind and did not get wet. They also helped enormously with warmth and blocking the wind. Wore them with leggings underneath and never felt too hot (the air temperatures were high 40s and low 50s - this was September in Iceland). Also discovered the rain pants can be helpful during the river crossings by protecting your legs and leggings from the icy cold river water (obviously you'll still get wet but having another barrier was helpful).Negatives: I wish there was an XXS size. I typically wear a 0-2 in pants and was still swimming in the XS. They are incredibly baggy and not very flattering. The waist was also quite big, and it was slightly annoying trying to tie the drawstring cord standing in the cold/wet/rain/wind and you have to take off your gloves etc etc.

These pants are essential for me to run our farm. I wear them every day, probably 150 days per year going out several different times, doing hard physical labor. Moving bales of hay and sacks of feed, fixing fence, walking miles checking on stock, splitting and hauling wood. As a farmer I go out no matter the weather because my animals need to be fed, lambs are born in bad weather always. I have worn these for 25 years and each pair lasts about 4-5 years before they rip or wear out. I always stay comfortable and dry. I can be out in the rain and snow for hours. I wear a medium but buy a large so I can layer depending on the temperature.

Love these pants! Comfortable, cool features (pockets, adjustable cuffs, boot zipper). L fits well on my 5'4" height, with space underneath for insulated pants in winter.BUT I hate that REI ships with single-use plastic packaging. Don't we all know better by now? plastic bag inside another plastic bag. Even if recycled, plastic bags become plastic decking boards which become microplastics in the sea. Go paper & cellulose, folks!
I purchased these pants for a rafting trip where rain was in the forecast all day every day. The pants held up just fine around camp, they feel pretty durable for hauling things around camp and I liked the adjustable ankles to stay tight around my boots.I sized up because I have curvy hips and most Patagonia pants don't fit me as the waist ends up huge while the thighs fit too tight. For this trip, layering was important so having extra room under the pants was key. Surprisingly, I found that even though these have a huge expandable drawstring waist, the legs didn't offer a lot of range of motion. They were not tight at all, just limited in movement. I'll continue to wear these pants on outdoor trips where rain around camp or on low-key float trips is expected.
The rain pants are well made with good materials. I used them for my bicycle commute and hiking. I found the leg and waist elastic to be too loose for my liking, but at least the waistband has a drawstring. The reason I gave four stays instead of five is because of the length of the inseam and the loose elastic. I am 5'4", average proportions and weight for my height. The inseam for both the medium and large pants is 32". Way too long and with the loose elastic in the legs they sag down over my shoes and I ended up stepping on the back edge. Since they are rainpants, they are problematic for hemming, and ditto for rolling them up; the cuffs would fill with water. For some reason I cannot click on the additional questions, but tried to answer most in my review.
I was looking for rain pants for biking (commuting mainly). I ordered these and the Patagonia dirt roamer storm. I choose the dirt roamer and returned these cause they are not adapted for biking. They would best for walking/hiking/camping. They look like very good pants and the fit is great when not on a bike. They fit loose. I’m 5’4 and 120-125 lbs and the XS where perfect. Great pants but not was I looking for. The fabric is a little noisy but it’s not a big deal.
The style and fit of these pants is perfect. I love the full length zippers. For reference I’m 5 foot 8 and medium build, the medium is roomy. My only complaint is they feel a bit thicker and are quite crinkly. I haven’t tried them in the rain but they are very positively reviewed and the price is reasonable for such a great quality pant.
These pants and light and packable. I tested them over a rainy camping weekend and they proved to be waterproof and also mosquito-proof! They do run a bit large, which is expected since you would wear them on top of another layer. I also think the pant cuffs should be revisited to better stick to boot ankles, as they will tend to ride up. Overall very happy with my purchase! Hope it will last a long time.
These are great pants with awesome features. I bought them to go with the Torrentshell jacket I bought a few years back (which is still holding up great). I am severely miffed about the color, though. These "black" pants do not match my black jacket, which is still very black in color and has not faded. What Patagonia is now calling "black" is more of a midnight blue. Patagonia, please change the fabric color back to actual black or relabel the color in your product information.
