Bad fit

Really wanted to make this jacket work!! Love the colour and design, the sustainability and durability. But the fit is all wrong! I know it’s a 3L but it’s very crunchy sounding. The long length is great but it keeps riding, almost needs a bit of weight at the bottom.Fit was strange. It was tight at the shoulder bust circumference, couldn’t cross arms definitely couldn’t layer. Yet it had space on the shoulders and top of chest area…snug at hips, definitely not for curvy women. Hood has way too much space, brim covers face. I love the cuffs, fleece lined pockets and 2 way zipper. The zipper flap is angled so as to not catch the zipper, but I worry the zipper would be exposed to weather. So sad as I really wanted to make this coat work. I need a 3/4 length solid waterproof jacket for everyday wear on the westcoast. It’s really hard to find fair trade made sustainable technical performance pieces. But the fit was so wrong! Please Patagonia try again with your fit measurements. I don’t know how this would work on any other women except very skinny straight figured women!

Beautiful and Waterproof Jacket!

I needed a rain jacket that was more of a parka length to help keep more of me dry when walking and working outside. My employer ordered this jacket for me to wear for work (I work outside, they asked me to pick a jacket for them to buy for me) and had the company logo embroidered onto it. I did not try the jacket on, and am almost always a large in Patagonia (I am a 5'6" woman, 180 lbs with curvy/athletic build). The jacket definitely fits me, with a very tailored fit. I am able to wear my Better Sweater under it, but it is definitely super snug in the chest and shoulders (I have a larger chest, about a 36 DD-DDD, as well as broad shoulders from lifting weights). That is not the fault of the jacket itself though! As I mentioned, I work outside, often standing and walking around in rain for several hours at a time. So far, this jacket has kept me perfectly dry and has not wetted out once! The water just keeps beading up and rolling off the jacket! It has a very flattering fit, and I have gotten so many compliments on it. The hood is pretty generous, and my only complaint might be that even with the drawstring to cinch the hood down in the back to make it fit better, it still sometimes hangs over my eyes unless I wear a ballcap underneath. I have a kinda small head though! Also, there are no pit zips in this jacket, which is a feature that I would love to see. If you are looking for a beautifully made and flattering jacket to keep you dry as you walk the dogs, walk around town, commute, or stand/sit at outdoor events this is the jacket for you! It is probably the most waterproof rain jacket I have ever worn (and I have had several big name rain jackets). If you need something more technical/for super active pursuits, I would suggest a Patagonia jacket with some more technical features/a different cut.

I have been looking for a good black, long rain jacket for awhile. I bought this one based on the waterproof reviews (PNW weather must!). The jacket is warm enough with layers underneath. The only complaint for the jacket is it is VERY swooshy, crunchy and loud. Its really cute on, though. I also bought it full price and it went on huge sale for almost $70 off and I missed the timeline to get a price adjustment by just a few days. Customer service wont budge an inch, not even with store credit. Its too bad that Patagonias customer service has become this way because theyve always been so wonderful and its always had me coming back. Ive had much better costumer support at other major outdoor companies..

Fantastic waterproofing (best raincoat I own)
12 May 2023

I got this in a small instead of an x-small thinking I wanted a little room for layers. In reality an xs would've given me that bit of room and an xxs would've probably been fitted. I kind of didn't care as it wasn't so big it hindered my movement so I didn't send it back. The length is pretty correct though, it comes down to my lower thigh. For reference I'm very lean with a rectangular build. That being said, this is the most waterproof raincoat I own. I have gone and run out in the absolute pouring rain and hail to go get my horses. Everything else I have ever worn would soak through, this never does except sometimes a little bit around the ends of the sleeves. The only other part of me that is ever wet is whatever is below the raincoat. As mentioned before it ... MoreI got this in a small instead of an x-small thinking I wanted a little room for layers. The only other part of me that is ever wet is whatever is below the raincoat. As mentioned before it covers a good part of my thigh, so it's not much. Also, after adjusting it the hood actually stays (yes, even when running with a horse) and is effective. Water doesn't drip in my face. I've had it for about almost a year and got it as a present (although I requested it). I think it's worth the money.

Great Everyday Long Rain Jacket
15 December 2022

I have the long nano puff jacket and this fits perfectly over it. I live in the Seattle area It rains a lot here. Waist length rain jackets are annoying because all the rain drips on to your legs. This rain jacket is long and the rain drips to the ground. I love that you can zip it up to your chain. The hood fits well too. There's only a discreet logo near the sleeve AND the cuffs are elastic and not velcro so it doesn't get annoyingly stuck to every sweater. The silhouette is slimming and the matte black looks nice. LOVE THIS

Perfect for travel and commuting in the PNW!
8 June 2022

I purchased this jacket for a trip to Australia, and have since used it for commuting in Vancouver, Canada. It is 100% waterproof and lightweight, compact, and breathable. The dual zippers mean it’s comfortable to wear both sitting and standing, and the seam structure of the jacket makes it very flattering. The sleeve cuffs are one of my favourite features, because they are partially elasticized and don’t require constant readjustment like velcro cuffs (but they still keep the rain out!). Other thoughtful details like the collar (which stands separately from the hood), zippered exterior pockets, adjustable hood, and subtle branding all contribute to making this item a wonderful purchase! It fits true to size while allowing some room for layering. I purchased the ... MoreI purchased this jacket for a trip to Australia, and have since used it for commuting in Vancouver, Canada. Sizing info is WAY off!
19 March 2023

Love Patagonia products. Based on sizing chart, a size L should have fit easily. Based on reviews and knowing I would want a sweatshirt to fit comfortably underneath, I ordered an XL. With only a light weight long-sleeved top, the XL was SO snug across chest, shoulders and hips - pretty much everywhere. No way to wear this comfortably let alone sit down while wearing it. Every other XL Patagonia I own is plenty roomy with a heavy sweater or hoodie beneath it so this is uncharacteristic for this company -- as well as super disappointing. This fit more like a size M would have fit. Could not wait to take it off. Sadly, it's already wrapped for return.

Sleek, lightweight and waterproof

I love this latest version of the torrentshell because its so versatile. Its still a little crunchy with movement but all the added updates on the hood, zippers and style make it worth it. I use this for walking, errands, yard work, and day hiking. I like that I can bend over or reach into my trunk and stay covered and dry. The cut and length allow me to wear my nano air, better sweater or long cardigan underneath for extra warmth as needed while also providing breathable lightweight insulation on its own. It takes up little space and weight when packed.Im 57 with a build that is leaner up top and sturdier from the waist down. Im typically between a small and medium in Patagonias regular fit. Super disappointed in the sizing of this item
10 April 2023

I have been hunting for a longer-length rain jacket from Patagonia and loved the styling of this item. Patagonia rainwear is excellent and I was looking forward to non-soggy dog walks! Based on size charts, a size L should fit comfortably. Wanting to be able to layer over a sweatshirt, I opted for XL. This runs SO small and tight in the shoulders and chest and throughout the body that I could barely zip the jacket. An XL has room to spare in my other Patagonia jackets. This fit like a size M. Too bad. It was returned immediately. What's up with this sizing?

Wish hood was a little deeper
17 October 2021

When I first tried this coat on, the hood seemed sufficient. However, now that I've worn it a number of times, I often notice myself "hunching" to avoid getting rain on my face. The hood sort of slides back during use and I have to keep pulling it forward. I'm not wearing a ponytail and I have the adjustable bungee at its loosest position. I intentionally buy good raincoats so I can avoid carrying umbrellas, so this is frustrating when a 1-2" deeper hood could keep me fully dry during my walking commute. However if preserving your peripheral vision is important to you, you'll probably like this one - the brimmed hood style means I can see to the sides better than with my last coat which means less twisting around to check for traffic at road crossings.Other than ... MoreWhen I first tried this coat on, the hood seemed sufficient. The coat hits me just below mid-thigh (I'm 5'4"); I was originally hoping to buy a knee-length coat but couldn't find one I liked, so I'm glad this one hits me a bit lower than I was expecting. The double zipper makes it easy to walk in despite the length. I like the angled sleeve cuffs, the softly-lined pockets, and the blue colour.
