I've always loved the better sweater line. These are great to layer for outdoor adventures but also traveling more generally. I toss one in my bag or the back of the car as a go-to layer for most adventures. But also for the travel to those adventures. No need to worry about frigid air on a flight, temperature dropping when eating outside, unplanned stop at an over-air conditioned museum, etc. I think that the heathered/flecked colors might look clean and presentable longer. They do eventually pill on the outer layer which makes them look a bit grubby and lessens their adaptability (my 10+ year old black one is now "outdoor adventure" only). As i've become curvier with age, they are not as flattering on my frame as they once were. I hover between a size M and L and ... MoreI've always loved the better sweater line. I hover between a size M and L and i decided to go with large this time = more comfortable but the sleeves are a little too long. I might even shorten the sleeves slightly since my arms aren't growing and my plan is to wear this for another 10+ years! I might trim the cuffs in another color. (I wore out the cuffs of my patagonia winter coat (grey) that they repaired, on my request, with teal. It looks amazing and gives the coat new life.)

I purchased a better sweater in the chicory red color. It looks a bit dark online, but when it arrived it was a beautiful warm plum color. I really appreciate when there are beautiful, earthy color options for women, too (for most brands I usually like the men's side of the store much better for color options, but I'm too petite to wear men's clothing, so earth tones for women's clothing are highly appreciated). My bust measurements were for a size small, but my other measurements are for an XS (35"bust/26.5" waist/35" hips). I found the large bust measurement wasn't an issue, and the XS fits perfectly. The hood is great when it gets chilly (fits nicely, not too snug, but enough to keep you warm), and the sweater blocks the wind enough to be comfortable for casual ... MoreI purchased a better sweater in the chicory red color. On a truly windy day I would wear an outer shell, but it's been great in mild wind. It feels very cozy - the inside is very soft and fuzzy. It's definitely a casual sweater - I wouldn't wear it backpacking (or for other strenuous activity), since it is not breathable. Also, I really appreciate that I will be able to easily repair the sweater after a few years if I need to.

I just had to return it today, Im only 5'1, 115lbs, 33 chest, and the XS way too tight, I normally wear XS, I have a Patagonia jacket size XS ít it fits fine, but the sweater is super slim fit, around the arms, and chest, I felt suffocated, couldnt take it off fast enough. If you want to layer underneath you should buy at least a size up or two. I dont know if I would reorder a different, the style and fits doesnt look that good in person. For the price I should get something else.

Love it: Warm but not Bulky
15 April 2024

warm but not bulky, comfortable, fitted. I got a Medium, and I'm 5'0 and 150lbs. It fits just right. I've washed it multiple times over the last couple months since I got it, and it still looks new, though I guess time will tell how well it really holds up. Regarding price, I used a gift card; I cannot tell if it is worth the retail price - I held off on purchasing it (before I received a gift card) for a while because of this reason. However, now that I have it, what I can say is that it is my favorite hoodie - it looks stylish, feels light, and is warm.

Love the better sweater fleecy but long sleeves
3 December 2020

I love the better sweater fleecy hoody, I've purchased several of the vests in years past, a 1/4 zip too and like them very much but wanted to have a better sweater jacket when I was in the home (or out) during the colder temps. This works great. And the one I bought was a wonderful blue and on sale. I am a size medium but ordered a large in this even though I knew the sleeves would be way too long but I wanted a looser fit so I can put this jacket on over my clothes, without it being so snug. I planned to mend the sleeves to a proper length (yes, I cut off about an inch on brand new jacket) and sewed a seam around. Honestly I'm so glad I did that, it looks great, is warm and fits me well. I'm a more petite build but even I think patagonia tends to make there ... MoreI love the better sweater fleecy hoody, I've purchased several of the vests in years past, a 1/4 zip too and like them very much but wanted to have a better sweater jacket when I was in the home (or out) during the colder temps. I'm a more petite build but even I think patagonia tends to make there sleeves a little too tight, snug in these jackets. So I got a large and made the sleeves a proper length for me and now it fits like how I like to wear a fleece, with a little room in it, not as a glove. Hence, docked the one star for that. But love what I've got. Make it your own!

Possibly my favorite hoodie
16 November 2022

This hoodie is amazing. I wear it all the time. It's warm, but not too warm. It looks good enough to not be completely dressed up of course, but it passes at work better than a regular hoodie would (the pandemic has lowered my standards of professional dress, but still, this looks good over a button up shirt when your office heat hasn't kicked in for the season). My only concern with this hoodie is if the inside gray fuzz will wear off/stick to a darker colored undershirt. I have not worn a darker color for that reason, but it is in the back of my mind. Either way, this hoodie is great. I love it and will probably get it in a few more colors.

Too tight in underarm
27 March 2024

I really wanted to love this sweater, because it did feel like it would keep you nice and warm. Birch white is really beautiful. Unfortunately, like other shoppers, I did not like how the style fits. It's designed to sit tightly, I guess to emphasize the beautiful women's body shapes :). The sweater is too tight in underarms. The sleeves do not allow for layering. I could see myself get easily sweaty in it.I usually buy S, but went for M (per reviews), but that still felt tight underarms. So I ordered L. L felt better underarms, and sleeves allowed for layering, but the sleeves were now too long haha. Bummer.

Top of zip and neckline digs into my windpipe
21 March 2024

I loved the colour and feel of this top when I first tried it on. Unfortunately, the way the hood pulls on the top of the neck, the top of the zipper curls toward the windpipe and presses on the neck. I bought this quite some time ago, and kept hoping that the neckline would soften but it does not, months later, still pressing on my windpipe when I zip up the hoodie. It is somewhat fixed if I can put a light scarf under it, but I don't always want to wear a scarf with a fleece hoodie. I don't recommend this design if you can't try it on in person first before buying.

Very tight on shoulders for a climber
2 January 2024

I am 5'9" and about 145-150lbs. I climb regularly and have fairly broad shoulders. Based on the photos of models, I ordered a small. It was short on my torso and quite tight on my shoulders. I have had better sweater hoodies previously and I must have had mediums because I don't remember them being tight in the shoulders. I think the photos of the models are deceptive about the fit and would suggest sizing up for athletes with broad shoulders.Sad to see that a medium is on a waitlist so I can't exchange the jacket effectively.

disappointing fit
12 January 2023

This is a nice jacket. It's warm; I like the look of the material; and it has both exterior and interior pockets (which every jacket should have, in my opinion). But, based on your description and some of the reviews, I was expecting a more flattering fit. You claim that it has "contoured shape and fit", but on me it's just straight - no "shape" at all. It even feels a bit snug across the bust - and I have very little bust! - while being not at all shaped in the waist. It's not becoming at all on me.
