The CALM Ultra-Gentle Cleanser is a good cleanser... I mean... it's hard nowadays to make a bad cleanser, especially for a brand like Paula's Choice. It's not my favorite one, but it's a rare case of a great reformulation and does the job. It's really gentle so for my combination skin it's ideal more for a morning cleanse; definitely not the kind of cleanser that removes makeup... maybe just the second step of the nighttime cleansing routine. Although I usually like cleanser that make more suds / foam, I actually enjoyed the silky smooth texture of this cleanser. I have sensitive eyes and this doesn't cause me any irritation.

I have been using Moisture Boost One Step Face Cleaner for a dozen years and generally I'm very happy with it It cleans well, does remove most of my makeup, and leaves my super senior skin feeling very nice. No breakouts of any kind but that might just be my age. My foundation goes over this without flakiness which is a major plus. I do find that this cleanser is rather difficult to rinse off. This is not a problem in the shower but bent over the sink it can be mildly annoying/ What I am really annoyed about is that Paula no longer sells this in an 8 oz size and does not offer it in a travel size. I don't mind the large 16 oz size in my shower, but I I much prefer the smaller size by my bathroom sink. One can even travel with the 8 oz container if she had too. I having been washing and reusing an old, very old, 8 oz bottle for ages now and refilling it from the 16 oz size I don't like doing this and don't like "decanting cleansers and other products that go on my face. Also, for such a popular product, why are you not at least making a neat little travel size for my gym bag. Who wants to carry 16 oz bottle to the gym. Not sure why Paula would make such a weird business decision. Not user friendly.

This product is fine, I guess. It cleans my skin and doesn't dry it out. This product was recommended to me as a replacement for the old Moisture Boost formula, which has been discontinued. I'm still mourning the loss of that one - no other product has ever left my combination skin that soft or glowing. This one works fine, but doesn't give me anywhere close to the luxurious feeling I had with the old moisture boost formula. I will not buy this one again, it just is not worth the extra money for a smaller bottle that really doesn't do much for me. For the first time in over 10 years, I've switched cleanser brands.

Another example of a reformulation that went backwards. I use the whole Calm Collection and prefer the previous cleanser and toner when you had a choice for either normal to dry or normal to oily skin. These 1 for all skin types never work for me. I much preferred the previous normal to oily cleanser. This goes also for the toner, I much preferred the previous toner by skin type in the Calm Collection. So far the Calm Repairing Serum and Redness Relieft SPF 30 Mineral Moisturizer for normal to oily skin have not changed and I like them alot. I do like the formulation of the Calm Rescue & Repair Weightless Moisture for night. This is very soothing and just right for my skin. I am still using my old 1% BHA Calm Exfolliant so I can't speak for the new formula. All in ... MoreAnother example of a reformulation that went backwards. This is the worst cleanser I have ever used. Reminds me of an old Jackie Chan movie having to do with a company that sold bottled water that got people to suck down loads of thier water not because it was great tasting or smoother than other waters but because it was actually dehydrating them making them think they needed more and more of it. This felt really slick and didnt want to rinse off so I went in with my washcloth to get it all off . That was fine but I went in wkth my hands after to make sure the product was rinsed off and was shocked. My hands did not slide over my face At ALL. My hands would just stay stuck where they were, my skin was so devoid of even water sticking to the surface after gently patting dry with a soft towel. Horrifying feeling. My hands would just stay stuck where they were, my skin was so devoid of even water sticking to the surface after gently patting dry with a soft towel. Horrifying feeling. My eyes are stinging a bit now too, usually they feel fine after cleansing. I wanted to start buying most all my products from here again to keep things simple but this product is so single handedly dissapointing that I feel I dont want to buy anything from here again ever. I think I may end up using my Dove soap on my face even though I bought it as body soap or take a little walk to my lical Ulta store within the next 2 days to pick up something else. Luckily I had a bottle of primrose oil and gobbed a handful of that on tonight. This bottle is going in the trash bin. The postal service is a headache nowadays and I don't want to bother with returns for that reason but honestly , you have lost my business because the product is THAT bad. I don't know how it got high ratings or why it would be marketed towards dry, sensitive skin.
I've been using PC products including the Calm cleanser for probably 8 years and usually have great results. Unfortunately this new formula is not working for me. It makes my face sting after I use it and I've been getting dryness and flaking where I usually wouldn't. I've tried it for a month and haven't changed any other products in my usual routine. Really sad about this because I use multiple Calm products and looks like they're all changing to new formulas, and having to find new skincare products can be costly and frustrating.
I've used Paula's Choice Calm line for oily skin for years: nothing else controlled my rosacea like this product line. However, as I've aged, my skin's oiliness has diminished and rosacea is not as raging... but recently I woke up 'red' as they say, and back to Paula's Choice! This improved cleanser is lovely, gentle and effective. The only thing that could be done to improve it is to enclose a pump in the product: aging hands with arthritis find squeezing the bottle for product very difficult. I plan to try more skin care products in this line. Thank you.
I love all of Paula's Choice cleansers for my normal to dry skin, especially Resist and Defense to efficiently remove makeup. But this new Calm cleaser... WOW. Best cleanser ever! It takes very little to remove all my makeup in one wash. It "lathers" gently, stays one so I can work it into my face, and rinses off "squeaky clean" without leaving my skin feeling tight. It removes my Kevyn Aucoin Sensual Skin Enhancer face and whatever mascara (that usually would need a second cleanse to get all off) in just one wash. Gentle, efficiently cleanse skin, rinses clean, and saves product/money. Unicorn magic.
Ok. I used this for a good 3 weeks. Eventually my nose started itching bad. My eyes turned red and felt swollen along with my face feeling swollen and throbbing. I'm soooo disappointed because I have dry, very sensitive, rosacea skin. I don't get it?! What is in this stuff causing this issue? The fructose, glucose, Cocamidopropyl betaine? I'm so confused.I absolutely will NOT buy anything from this company again. It was my first PC purchase and my last.
I can't tell you how many cleansers I went through trying to find one that didn't leave my skin feeling tight after washing. Finally I found this, and it was perfect! I love it, it feels good on my face when washing and, best of all, when I rinse and dry, my face feels smooth and supple, no tightness. I've been through multiple bottles and had planned on using it for years to come, so imagine my horror when I signed in and saw that it's been discontinued. WHY? If you look at the ratings, this cleanser is the highest rated one in the PC line. What kind of company discontinues one of their most highly rated products, especially a company that seems to value customer loyalty? GAH.
