Decent starter cage

This cage may need parent assistance to build it can be a bit confusing. I have a dwarf hamster for it and her small body is not big enough to move the wheel and she slips on the slides so she is not able to climb it. The water bottle also leaks and I have to change a part of the bedding everyday because it’s soaked. The house and all is cute. The cage itself is not so bad but I will need to take off the slides along with the wheel and water bottle needing to be replaced for better working ones.

The ramps have little elevations to help your critter get up the plastic ramp, but I did not like the lack of traction on the slippery ramp so I cut the textured dish mat material in the shape of the ramp and glued it down for traction. I secured an enclosed sand bath on the top level. My hammy seems very very happy with his new home with lots of space and tunnels that I placed in for him.

I like this cage a lot. The wheel that comes with it is decently quiet, and the size of the cage is very roomy compared to a similar priced one from other pet store or a 10 gallon tank. Only thing that I replaced was the water bottle which was very small. My son 11 had little problem attaching the base after cleaning, and his hamster has escaped from the gap which was there due to cage not being properly attached. Our hamster loves the cage, and he utilizes every part of the cage including the top, as monkey bars. I recommend to give at least 3 inches of bedding on the bottom, so when the little one decided to jump off the top or fall from doing monkey bars, he would have a soft landing. The platform opening will definitely accommodate for dwarf hamster and male ... MoreI like this cage a lot. (not sure about female Syrian for they tend to be bigger than male) However, the attached slide? can be taken out, and the platform hight can be adjusted so hamster can just climb from one platform from another if needed. (For a have a plus size hamster:)

Good for a dwarf hamster

I have a Winter White dwarf hamster and he is a fatty but loves this cage. When leveld properly, he can get up the ramps and he likes to run up them and jump and slide down them. However, the wheel it comes with is not very good, it barley moved and he couldn't run on it the first night. I purchased what I believe is an 8 inch wheel ($8) and it fits perfectly under the upper most level. The water bottle leaks slightly when you handle it but when attached to the cage it works and barley leaks. I also purchased my own water bottle holder only because using the metal wire it came with was difficult for me. It came with a nice blue house which my dwarf hamster fit in perfectly but I chose to replace it with a dome house because I plan on getting him a friend. The only thing I would change would be one of the levels, I would make it larger so we can use it for our hamsters to play with.

Great for small obedient hamsters

I have a little Chinese dwarf hamster and he adores this cage. The only flaw in this cages design is it's bad wheel but my hamster's old wheel fit on the bars fine. The reviews you mightve seen don't come from complaints for the product. Most people have a hamster that's too large for this cage or mice, which are escape artists. If you have a well trained 2-4 inch long hamster they'll live this cage. I own 3 chinese dwarf hamsters (all in separate cages btw) and they're really well trained. I remember even accidentally leaving one of their doors open overnight and he hamster was still in there. Honestly, this cage should be used when you know your hamster won't try to escape. I recommend you buy a tank first and make sure your hamster is nice and won't wind up ... MoreI have a little Chinese dwarf hamster and he adores this cage. Once you know your hamster is the right size and won't escape, then get this cage. If you know you're hamster or mice is too small or large or likes to escape, get a big tank if you have a mouse and a large wired cage or tank if you have a large hamster like a Syrian. So yes, this product is great as long as your hamster will work with it.

Only for Dwarf Hamsters

It is a decent for a small hamster. I have a Chinese Dwarf hamster.. and it is so far the perfect size for her. She has enough room to run around and the little home is probably her favorite part of the whole thing. I would NOT recommend it for a hamster though. My sister got a Syrian hamster and the cage seems very crowded for her. The slide thing is too thin for her body, and the wheel is too small for her. The water bottle leaks really badly... it spilled out so much that the water slide down the slide. I am pretty sure i put the wheel on wrong, but the way i did... it did not really move very smoothly. So overall... i would recommend it for someone who has a very small hamsters, and has things like a wheel and a water bottle already before buying the cage. Overpriced/ Good and bad

The good and the bad. Young mice fit through the bars. I’m looking into either mesh to cover the panels or an aquarium until they become full grown. Some of the bars are slightly bent right out of the box and so there are wider areas little ones can escape out of. Its happened twice so far. Bless the folks who have fat critters but don’t believe them when they say pets can’t escape. The cage overall is decent quality and sturdy. The directions are lacking and it seems where its lacking in words, it tries to make up in hard to see pictures, especially for the smallest parts. The clips are laughably loose that hold the bars onto the base. If you need to pick up the cage, hold it only by the base. The wheel does squeak. The clips are laughably loose that hold the bars onto the base. If you need to pick up the cage, hold it only by the base. The wheel does squeak. There is a piece on the back that needs to be rotated straight up and down to ensure smooth rotation and less noise. My mice took to the wheel immediately and love it. They also love the ladders and platforms. However, i wouldnt recommend these platforms for a heavier critter. I tightened the screws all of the way, and the platforms still have a lot of movement and are not sturdy. I like that the food bowls are recessed into the platform so the bedding stays cleaner and free from food. The little nesting box/ house has a lid that is near impossible to remove. So I just rest it on top for easy removal. The water bottle works great and does not leak. I know on some water bottles you have to tap the little ball to get it to seat right to stop leaking but no issues yet. I do use a 2nd bottle and the mice seem to use it more often, though. Probably because the spout on the included water bottle is shorter so I placed a block there they do use occasionally as a step stool. I like the deeper base on this cage as the bedding stays put better and doesnt get everywhere outside of the cage. The platforms have to be placed just right or the ladders will be at too steep of an incline and the mouse will make it halfway up and start to slip and slide. You can prop the bottom of the first ladder with either bedding or a block to decrease the incline since there is some give at the top of each ladder.

Probably the worst cage out there

I have 19 cages. I'm definitely not new to owning a cage. I needed another cage for one of my mice due to mine fighting. Seeing Walmart was open 24/7 I decided to see if they had anything and I saw this cage. I knew putting it together that I only paid $30 so I was probably going to get what I paid for :( 2 bars were already broken....ugh The shelves dont sit firm into place but I could of lived with that. The water bottle leaks so bad its empty in 5 hours which wasted so much bedding. The wheel is no where near quiet. I REALLY liked the look of this but if I'm going to have to spend more money for water bottle and wheel, I might as well head to petsmart and get one of their nicer cages for $60 and call it a day. I've only had this cage 12 hours and I've never wanted to return something so bad. Maybe i got a bad batch and others are fine. I dunno but I'm not even willing to try another one.

Relatively decent cage
3 January 2019

Bought this as it was the only cage available at Walmart, wheel doesn't work and the water bottle leaks often. However for someone looking to have smaller rodents like mice or dwarf hamsters, with some changes it could make an okay cage. I however still won't recomend this cage as it leaves little room for an added features or toys. Definitely not a cage for those with Syrian Hamsters as well since the little room makes it somewhat hard for them to be around. This cage is as well easy to assemble and disassemble, making cleaning easier however. I believe that those who are looking to begin raising gerbils or some of the smaller hamster breeds could use this cage effectively with some changes made to the overall cage.

WAY TOO SMALL, VERY INHUMANE
21 February 2020

Buy a 110 quart plastic storage bin for $10, cut a hole in the top and put wire mesh there. $15 and you have a way better cage. Do don’t buy this! It is inhumane! This cage is way too small, a hamster needs at least 450sq inches of floor space and that’s the bare minimum! If you get a Syrian hamster the minimum is 600sq inches! Also keep in mind that a hamster needs a sand bath and at least 8 inches of bedding on one side of the tank so it can burrow and keep warm. The wheel that would fit in her is way too small for even a dwarf hamster, too small of a wheel creates a bend in the hamsters back and can injure its feet.
