Does exactly what it says on the tin! Remember it isn't a £3K desk but what you get for the price is surprising. Use a good quality SD card for best results. Digital recording and the facility to remix and overdub on so many channels on a machine that is a couple of hundred pounds less than a grand - perfect.

Upon taking my new mixing board out the box and seeing it. I was in love. I quickly ran up the church, hooked it up and started playing my keyboard and it sounded alive. Love this thing. Very intuitive to use (basically like an analogue desk with crazy bonus features) onboard preamps sound great and clean, amazing range of mix routing options.Me: composer, guitarist and recent music graduate in my early 20s. I especially like how you can copy files directly from your computer to the L-20 via the USB connection, and assign them to individual channels, and vice versa (the L-20 mode switch just need to be set to "Card Reader"). That overrides one of the two downsides, which are: in interface mode, 22 in, but only 4 out. The other being no way to group channels. Originally I thought the Monitor Out buttons, when set to Master, would rout that mix to the mains. I'm not a big fan of the compressor either - I have two other small mixers with single knob compressors, and they are a lot better. Excellent product

I've been using this for 6 months now and it's a decent piece of equipment. Upgraded from the R24 so I could have more inputs and I've been loving the flexibility of this unit. I have used it very little as a standalone unit so I'm not familiar with that aspect, but I've found this to be great in every other functional aspect. The onboard effects and eq are decent though I shut them down to record. 6 mic outputs with individual mixes is a great feature for recording with others. The preamps are really clean.The only drawback I can think of is something that's unfortunately become standard with electronics in general: cheap casing and knobs/sliders. I wouldn't want to transport this thing around too much without a decent case. I cannot get sound from the board up the USB cable into the computer which means I can't record direct to DAW. My R24 is the same way. I dug through all the settings and it sees the device both for input and output but for some reason I can't make it work. Not entirely convinced it's Zoom driver but it could be. I don't use the device in the direct record to DAW much but I would like to get to that option. I take the wav files off the Zoom that I record and up load them into the DAW via the USB cable. Which is the reason I went away from the BR1600. I needed a new mixer. I was getting around about the old one but it was no longer satisfactory.Overall:As a mixing board it's very attractive. Lots of neat lights and knobs and faders. As just a mixer this would be quite expensive but when you factor in the ability to multi track record it's worth it in my opinion. I bought this primarily because I needed a new mixer, my old Behringer was toast and I own a Zoom R24 multi track recorder. That device took me a long time to warm up to as I had been used to the Boss BR1600CD recorder. The Zoom R24 won my heart over in time. So I thought why buy Tascam when I am not sure and I liked my last Zoom so I got this.

Overall:Purchased this mixer to replace my Mackie VLZ1604 VLZ Pro. Was not sure I wanted to spend the money on a mew mixer but wanted to achieve better sound with my classic rock cover band. I am very happy with the Zoom L20. This mixer is super lightweight and is very easy to bring to a gig if needed. also, the look of the mixer is super clean, and the configuration of the front panel is very easy to navigate. The sound that this mixer delivers is crystal clear and paired with my QSC GSD 8 is a great addition to my live sound mix. I wish the mixer had more inputs for other input devices such as an equalizer but that's OK. I figured out how to tune the onboard effects and EQ to achieve a very clean sound that I never could get with my Mackie. To adjust the sound of that channel, you have to raise the fader past the LEDS and then take it all the way to 0, and then can adjust the sound. Very 'un-analog-like', but once you get use to it, no worries. Easy to set-up customized outputs for monitors of headphones. The Pres sound very 'open' and are noticeably brighter than those on my Mackie board. I recorded 8 live tracks from my band at 16 bit/44.1kHz for 1.5 hours and each .wav files was around 400K, so the 128G card has plenty of capacity for extended live recording. I transferred the files to Cubase and developed great-sounding MP4s. The quality of the records matched or exceed those from my Focusrite USB interface. Highly pleased and for the money, I feel the L20 is an excellent choice.
