Due to the severe price inflation of whey protein (not just myprotein, seems to be everywhere), I decided to save some money and buy the pea protein powder. I assumed that at worst it would taste and smell like pea soup. I was so wrong. It's like the pea flavour has been magnified by 50. I literally cannot stomach this protein powder, it brings on a gag reflex with the smallest sip. I would rather drink actual pee than this product. I have tried mixing it with several different liquids to mask the flavour. The best thing I could find to hide the taste was black coffee. The bitterness of the coffee seemed to mask the flavour at first, but then the pea after-taste would come on and the vomiting would start again. As far as mixability goes, it has a very chalky texture. It is a much finer powder than whey protein. When I first went to mix up a shake using this protein, I used about 350 mL of water for a double scoop. This is what I would normally use for mixing two scoops of whey protein. When I shook my shaker cup the mixture instantly changed into the consistency of baby pablum. I had to double the amount of water just so that I didn't have to eat it with a spoon. Even further dilution was required to make the flavour bearable. At this point I'm diluting it so much that it completely defeats the purpose of a protein powder. Do not be tempted by the slightly cheaper price tag, it's not worth it. Avoid at all costs. Goes Well With: Fasting - as even the smell of this rancid product will kill your appetite for hours

Great product! Adequate taste and texture, it's not amazing but it's also not terrible

Before I bought this I read a bunch of reviews and they all either over-exaggerated the flavor/texture or under-exaggerated it. This protein tastes fine but not amazing. It has a MILD chalky texture (it's really not bad at all), particularly if you use too much in proportion to your mixer. The flavor of it is actually quite pleasant. I have the "Chocolate Stevia" flavor and is is sweetened enough to be drinkable without being overly sweet (a lot of whey proteins I find are a little bit on the sweet side for me). I think something that's happened is that whey proteins have gotten so unnoticeable when mixed that people are used to drinking things that taste like milkshakes. This doesn't taste like that, but I'm not sure what's up with the people saying they could ... MoreBefore I bought this I read a bunch of reviews and they all either over-exaggerated the flavor/texture or under-exaggerated it. You will definitely know that you're drinking a protein shake, but it's perfectly fine (and I actually prefer it that way). Overall a great product and I'm going to order another bag. NOTE: With whey protein I was actually doubling up: 2 scoops to a pint glass of water. You can't really do that with this powder since water doesn't seem to hold as much dissolved. If You Lack a Sweet Tooth
1 February 2023

I’ve been trying protein supplemented food for years and every time I have to hold my nose / I feel nauseous for hours afterwards. This pea protein has changed my life!! I’ve now confirmed the sweetener and flavourings of other proteins is what made them such an awful experience before. This protein tastes and smells like dry peas, as you would expect. It adds a ‘green’ flavour to smoothies that I wouldn’t purposefully add for taste factor but it isn’t unpleasant. There is a noticeable texture but no more powdery than average proteins. I blend my smoothies with avocado and I believe the fattiness / thickness overrides it. Not sure how well it would hold up in very thin / watery mixtures. Goes Well With: Green Smoothies (Almond milk, avocado, banana, spinach, peanut ... MoreI’ve been trying protein supplemented food for years and every time I have to hold my nose / I feel nauseous for hours afterwards. Pea Protein Isolate (Strawberry)
21 May 2022

I think as far as mixability goes, this was very standard for vegan protein powder. The texture however made it very filling and had a slightly less watery consistency when compared to standard whey (which I like). The taste overall was really good, it was light, sweet, and definitely had a strawberry taste to it. It can be best described as being a more textured, and slightly less sugary version of strawberry milk. Overall I really enjoyed this, and I will defiantly be trying more flavours in the MyVegan line after I finish this bag. Goes Well With: I honestly have just mixed it with water. It seems to need about 400ml of water per full scoop to mix fully so I haven't really tried with things like soymilk or almond milk. I could see it working just fine, however!

Quality has dropped
3 November 2022

Value: great Taste: well it's unflavoured pea protein, I'm not buying it for the flavour so I won't mark it down for that! It's unpleasant until you're used to it, then it's fine. Mixability & texture: this is where it's gone downhill. A year ago, this was a bit gritty, but that's to be expected with pea protein. Mixed fine. Since then, I'm guessing they are sourcing this from a different supplier? Now when you shake it, it's much frothier, and it's almost impossible to shake out the small lumps. It also tastes worse than it used to. Overall it's still a good value product, but hopefully the sourcing can improve back to how it was when I last purchased it in 2021. (This batch I bought in Sept 2022.)

Was looking around for unflavored isolates for a while and chose to try this one, although not vegan myself, prefer to get plant protein in lieu of animal products. After using it for a while I have found this (unflavored) variety holds up to the name, depending on what you’re mixing this with, the “flavor” is relatively neutral, adding slight color, texture is relative to what it’s being mixed with: a creamier thicker liquid will blend well and provide a smooth texture, while water and clear liquids allow for a slight chalkiness and grit, this isolate also does well being added to solid food. Terrible taste and grainy
19 January 2023

I cannot believe how bad this protein tastes. The flavor added is fine, but the flavor of the pea protein itself is disgusting. It's like the worst part of peas, and the flavor is so strong. I can mix 3 parts whey protein with 1 part of this, and the pea protein is still the dominate flavor. Additionally, this has a grainy/sandy texture that does not dissolve well. Absolutely do not buy this. Goes Well With: The garbage can. But really, you need to cut it with some other type of protein or mask it with a bunch of other ingredients in a smoothie.

The Worst Tasting Thing I Have Ever Consumed
3 July 2021

I wanna start off by saying I'm a huge fan of the Vanilla Whey Protein Isolate from MyProtein. In terms of flavor, mixability, value, and effectiveness (I can only assume) it's all 5 stars. However, I went vegan about 10 months ago and turned to MyProtein again, expecting to get a great product from them. I went with the Pea Protein Isolate due to it being extremely cheap on a sale, but I disregarded the large (relative to Soy Protein Isolate) proportion of bad reviews talking about the bad taste or chalkiness of this powder. I should not have doubted these people. I did not think the powder smelled good so I initially tried mixing it into a large smoothie of banana, kale, avocado, blueberries, and oat milk (a smoothie I make a lot and enjoy greatly.) I did not think the powder smelled good so I initially tried mixing it into a large smoothie of banana, kale, avocado, blueberries, and oat milk (a smoothie I make a lot and enjoy greatly.) I nearly threw up on the first sip. I had the bags of powder sitting in my apartment for a few months before thinking that I really needed to get my money's worth and that I should try and power through this protein powder. I made the mistake of mixing it with water, thinking that I didn't want to waste my non-dairy milk or other food trying to hide the awful flavor of this powder. Not only does this protein powder not blend completely when in a 10-speed blender, but it also does not dissolve well in a shaker cup or when stirred into water. On all three occasions, I encountered large, chalky clumps that stuck to the insides of my mouth and the top of my throat, damning me to extra exposure to concentrated disgustingness. With all three attempts to consume this protein powder, I had the same result. I am by no means a picky eater and I can power through most things even if I don't enjoy the taste, but this powder is the only thing to get me close to throwing up since I drank spoiled milk. If I ever swallowed poison, I could simply mix this protein powder with water and drink that, and anything I'd ingested in the last 9 years would probably come up. I've lowkey been traumatized and I'm scared to try other vegan protein powders, pea protein or otherwise. Goes Well With: A plastic bag to be sick into.
