Though they're referred to as shoulder seasons, the transitional weeks of fall and spring often leave us more concerned about our hands. Protecting those extremities is one of the trickiest obstacles of shoulder-season cycling, so items like Pearl Izumi's Cyclone Gel Gloves typically enjoy pride of place on our cold-weather kit lists. Pearl's Elite Softshell fabric is the gloves' main active ingredient. It blends breathability with wind- and water-resistance to help keep you warm and dry while limiting the gradual accumulation of clammy moisture. Spring and fall are the most beautiful times to ride, and synthetic, conductive tips on the index fingers and thumbs ensure touchscreen compatibility so you can document the adventure without exposing digits to dropping temperatures. The palm is also synthetic leather, and its plumped out with gel padding arrayed in a strategic pattern. Some people prefer an unhampered bar feel, but if you're on a 100-mile gravel tour through the autumnal orchards of New England, the added cush might be the difference between enjoying each cider stop and dreading getting back in the saddle. The gloves are finished with long hook-and-loop cuffs, extending coverage to ensure there are no sleeve/glove gaps, even for the long-of-limb. Reflective elements help keep you visible in fall's early dusk and the slow dawns of spring, and a windproof fleece wiping patch protects frosty noses while attending to cold-induced effulgence.

Bought a new pair of these exact same gloves after my first pair finally disintegrated after years. They are perfect for me as a cross country rider because they are truly three season gloves, not too hot in summer (wore them yesterday on a 20 mile ride in Virginia's heat) and they perform well until down to about 45F. Good for spring, summer and fall. The gloves have reflective points, always good, and the many gel inserts on the palm cover/protect the two hand nerves that can lead to numbness, and I've had none with these gloves. Nice that they come in XXL also, as I can't stand tight fingered gloves with my larger hands. I also like the basic look of them, not gaudy at all. The only downside is they are NOT phone touch screen workable, even if they say they are ... MoreBought a new pair of these exact same gloves after my first pair finally disintegrated after years. Overall impression is a good one, love these things, they are my go-to glove for mountain biking, and they cover a lot of bases that others don't. Not too thin, not too thick, warm without being hot, and stylish. Win win win. I paid $28 for mine after shopping around.

Overall these are good cool weather gloves. The padding isn’t as thick as the regular gloves I wear so that is reason for -1 star. Fit is good. I bought a size to allow lots of movement. On a ride that started in the low 60s and ended in the 50s they kept my hands comfortable and didn’t get too damp from sweat.

Temperature rated for 2-18C. I’ve put about 12 hours of early spring riding into these riding trails on MTB. Main reason for choosing for me was fit. Very few gloves fit my finger length and end up being uncomfortable and wearing out early.XL in these .. fit like a glove.. ;-)Read the poor reviews about being cold and not good in rain. But bought anyway because I wouldn’t ride these in the rain (not rain gloves), and no below zero rides.Temps have been 5-12C and the gloves have done well. I think at low effort levels in exposed areas they would be cold without a liner at 2-4C.But if you’re pushing it or riding in the forest they warm up well.So far fit and comfort are flawless. No unusual tightness or looseness in any spots to get used to. Grip on bars is ... MoreTemperature rated for 2-18C. I’ve put about 12 hours of early spring riding into these riding trails on MTB. But like any clothing, fit is individual. I have large hands with long fingers, but not thick height wise.Touch sensitive finger works on phone and watch.Wind proofing works. Didn’t get a chill when descending fast. They don’t let go of moisture from sweat as good as some others I’ve had. But no issues of saturation. Never became uncomfortable or compromised performance. They’re only slightly below others I’ve had (being nit-picky).Agree with other reviewer that the closure tab isn’t really needed, as the gauntlet is just the right size when open. It is a little easier to get them on and off with tab open, but once on, tab open or closed doesn’t seem to make a difference to performance, fit, or temp regulation.I think these are quite good for the price. You’d have to spend near double to get better.I don’t regret my purchase for initial performance. MEC’s return made it a cant-lose deal.I’ll update my review if they suck for durability. If you don’t see an update within a year, they’re doing well.

This isn't for extreme conditions - down below the 40's or in wet conditions I'd look for something else. But they're a welcome addition for dry, cool rides in the 40's and 50's, giving me the chance to ride on some days when I'd have been miserable without the extra coverage. I was worried about my hands getting sweaty as the day warms up, but this hasn't been an issue. A little extra padding would be nice to have, but I haven't had any problems with the padding as is. The touchscreen capable fingertip is helpful for checking your phone during the ride. Very pleased with this purchase.
I think the people who have given a bad review for this glove for not being waterproof or not standing up to Canadian winters need to read the packaging before purchase. This glove does not claim to be waterproof nor a winter glove, and as such should not be judged for such conditions.I have worn this glove for Vancouver fall duty and have been very happy with it so far. It fits great, is highly visible, and the plush patch is great for wiping your nose when it inherently gets runny. The touch pad works quite well for phones or a health tracker too.I also don't find the gel pads to be poorly placed, and in fact they saved me when I had an over handle bar incident. I landed firmly on my hands, the gloves protecting my hands quite well and don't even show any ... MoreI think the people who have given a bad review for this glove for not being waterproof or not standing up to Canadian winters need to read the packaging before purchase. This glove does not claim to be waterproof nor a winter glove, and as such should not be judged for such conditions.I have worn this glove for Vancouver fall duty and have been very happy with it so far. I landed firmly on my hands, the gloves protecting my hands quite well and don't even show any damage after my somewhat hard landing.I would have bought these at the regular price and been very happy but with the clearance price it makes it a no brainer.Think about what kind of riding you do and see if it works for you. I would never wear dress shoes and then give a 1 star review on how they don't work well as paddling shoes, so you shouldn't judge these as poor cycling gloves for winter or waterproof riding either.
When picking these gloves I read a ton a reviews that said they were warm, cold, and everything in between, so I thought I'd add my experience. Across the board they do a great job blocking wind, and made early morning rides much more bearable. The padding is comfortable, and they fit true to size. 55-60+ degrees these are hot once you get your heartrate up. From about 45-55 they are extremely comfortable. Down closer to 45 your finger tips will get cold, especially in the beginning of the ride. Once you get down to about 40 degrees, they are still warmer than nothing but my fingers tips all went numb even at the peak exertion point of my ride. So I'd say about 45 is the lowest I'd go and expect to be fully comfortable.
When the temp drops to 5℃ or below, these will keep your fingers warm (and still able to use your smartphone) but don't believe the description when it says "...wet or windy rides" and "provides wind and water protection". Wind protection, certainly. Water protection, hardly. The tech specs are honest when they say "Waterproof: No". With that caveat, if you are looking for gel gloves to stay warm as the temp drops, fine. But in Vancouver, dropping temperatures usually comes with precip, and I ought to have read the specs more closely. Personally, would not buy if I had to do it over. Am only recommending for those who don't ride in the rain.
I ride daily at night in 40*f or below. These gloves do a good job at keeping my hands warm in cold, breezy conditions. They don't hold up in more extreme cold, they also are not designed for that. The wrist are extends down past the wrist and has a Velcro strap to secure tighter if needed. These fit a little bit snugger than Pearl iZUMi size mediums I have worn in the past, I don't think a feel size change would be necessary. The gel padding included on the palm area is a bit uncomfortable, might contribute to how snug they feel for a medium. Some rides they make my hands sweat and feel wet inside the gloves, or cramp on occasion, this might be from the snug fit caused by the padding. I would not ware or purchase gloves with extra padding in the future.
These are pretty basic cycling gloves but well designed. The wrist are a little but longer than typical gloves and have Velcro flaps that when done up are tight enough that you can’t pull the loves off even if you try. That could be a good thing or annoying time will tell. Wind proof, offering a little bit of warmth, but not cold winter gloves. In person they are a very bright high visibility yellow/green which is great for safety. The places where the glove would get dirty are all black and made of a thicker material. The sizing between the medium and large is not significant.
I own tons of PI gear but these just fell short. Theyre great from 45-55deg but thats about it. Below 45 and your hands are colder than they should be on a ride, above 55 and your sweat is absolutely soaking through them. Poor breathability and narrow temp range are definitely negatives but they do grip very well and are comfy. For the price, they make a reasonable addition to fit between summer and winter gloves or to have as a spare set for a friend that might not be very into cycling but wants to do a casual ride with you. Any enthusiastic riding and you'll soak them but a flat pedal and jeans/hoodie cruise around the neighborhood on a fall night is a great environment for these.
