In the Barossa Valley, the Australians know how to make Syrah. Less freshness and tannins than a Côte du Rhône but the aromatic bouquet is very present with blackberry, vanilla and pepper notes. Finishes a little too short.

While excellent, the bottle was out of place and mixed in with the much less expensive, Max's Cabernet. I only intended to buy Max's Cabernet, of which, I purchased several. I didn't notice the label until we had already opened it.I don't purchase wine that price point especially without having the opportunity to taste it first. I returned to the store spoke briefly with a manager who seemed rather unconcerned. I buy wine regularly at Total Wine and an offer to partially reimburse or an in store credit, I believe would have been appropriate.

This review is for the 2018 vintage. Very nice and powerful wine from Penfolds that allows entry into the stable. Redolent notes of iris, blackberry, anise, tobacco. Chewy tannins are well integrated with the abundant fruit. Medium acidity and medium finish. The wine offers pleasure and structure in equal measure. WS 93 pts and WA 93 pts shine the light on this very good wine that has excellent QPR
I’ve been to the Barrossa valley in Australia on a wine tour but we did not get to stop at Penfolds. However, I have heard a lot about how good Penfolds wines are including this cab. This was a good wine but I’m not sure it’s worth the $70 price tag. I am sure I will not buy it again but if someone offers it to me at a dinner I will not turn it down. :)It’s a good wine but too light of a taste for me. I like bold, dry wines.
Penfolds 389 was a special wine for some years shared at many a dinner with a dear friend, until the winery realized Chinese buyers were leveraging price differentials and buying up the market. So Penfolds raised the price on "the little Grange". I really don't have a problem with that, the winery capturing some of that secondary market revenue. Good business move.Except I was buying this at US$27/btl.Is it still a nice wine? Yes.Still a value buy? Well, that's a whole 'nuther question. We buy when there's a 20% off coupon.
This was an explosion of fruit flavors on the palate, smooth and velvety without being sweet, and an equally velvety tannic finish. Just on the border of being too fruity and then the tannins kick in. This was for the 2019 vintage.
Purchase online since photos show 2017 and 2018 year of production but was received 2019. Really misleading and false information. Strongly disappointed and will NOT purchase from Liquorland again.
I got this bottle of wine as a free sample, in exchange for a review.I like a good Shiraz, and this is a good bottle however it is not worth the price tag. I tried this with a roast dinner and unfortunately the wine did not stand out as much as it should. I would probably not buy again.
