Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 Dry Red 750ml

(3 reviews)

Bin 707 is a true Cabernet Sauvignon representation of the Penfolds 'House Style': intensely flavoured fruit; completion of fermentation and maturation in new oak; expressing a Penfolds understanding of multi-vineyard, multi-region fruit sourcing. Full-bodied and with proven cellaring potential, Bin 707 retains a secure place among the ranks of Australia's finest Cabernets. Vivid aromas of redcurrant, blackcurrant and oak are joined by meaty notes, as well as a sanguine, iodine edge. The deep and dense palate has attractively chewy tannins draped in rich, ripe blackberry and blackcurrant flavours. A vibrant wine, with significant tannin layering that needs a good lie down. Approach from 2024 and should peak from around 2030. - 98 Points - Jeb Dunnuck. - 98 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate. - 96 Points - James Suckling. - 96 Points - Bob Campbell. - 95 Points - Wine Spectator. - 95 Points - David Sly, Decanter.

This is one of my all time favourite Red wines. It’s consistently good, really well priced and easy to purchase at any good bottle shop. Definitely the sort of wine I’ll take to a dinner party or when i just want a nice red to drink on a cold night.

Absolutely fantastic wine, well rounded and very versatile when pairing with food. Works equally well over an afternoon cheese platter as it does with rare cooked meats or rich, spicy dinners and didn’t give us a headache after a glass or two either. Excellent reasonably priced gift for party hosts that enjoy or are curious about red wine.

A very nice wine

My Go To Cabernet Sauvignon, I never let the price of it get in the way! From the tannins to the finish, this stuff is the best!

Good wine
4 January 2022

I’ve been to the Barrossa valley in Australia on a wine tour but we did not get to stop at Penfolds. However, I have heard a lot about how good Penfolds wines are including this cab. This was a good wine but I’m not sure it’s worth the $70 price tag. I am sure I will not buy it again but if someone offers it to me at a dinner I will not turn it down. :)It’s a good wine but too light of a taste for me. I like bold, dry wines.

Penfolds 389 was a special wine for some years shared at many a dinner with a dear friend, until the winery realized Chinese buyers were leveraging price differentials and buying up the market. So Penfolds raised the price on "the little Grange". I really don't have a problem with that, the winery capturing some of that secondary market revenue. Good business move.Except I was buying this at US$27/btl.Is it still a nice wine? Yes.Still a value buy? Well, that's a whole 'nuther question. We buy when there's a 20% off coupon.

If you are looking for a Very Special Gift or Something to drink for a Special Occasion. Penfold 389 Absolutely Outstanding Australian Bottle of Red. Quiet literally the intense fruit flavors will knock you over. It is a Big Bold Full On Barossa Red. You need to experience this Red at least once.

What a gem
1 March 2023

My parents opened this bottle at casual family dinner after receiving it is a gift. Neither them nor I had any idea how much it was worth though so this rating is not price-related. It was an absolutely spectacular bottle of wine. If only we'd realised it's value maybe we'd have appreciated it even more

Why buy a Grange?
20 June 2015

Why buy a Grange for $900+ when you can get the next best thing for 1/20th of the price. Bin 389 is just like a Penfolds Grange without the price tag. In fact some would suggest the 2012 Bin 389 trumps the Grange. This is a full-bodied Cabernet Shiraz blend where both varietals blend effortlessly. Vibrant, with a tangy freshness augmented by sculptured tannins, lively acidity, and respectful oak.
