I grew up fishing Penn reels that had belonged to my grandfather and will likely still be cranking in dinner for my grandchildren years into the future. I chose the the SSV 10500 to complete the first of a series of custom built extreme heavy duty spinning rods I am having built. These rods all exceed every aspect of normal spinning tackle ranging between 7'-10' and all being in the 130#-Super Unlimited class blanks. All 6 rods will be running 150-200# Power Pro braid. I knew setting into this journey to build the heaviest spinning tackle on the planet I needed some massive, tough and reliable reels and after discovering that Penn had came out with the 10500 it was a given to pair it up. This thing is a beast as it dwarfs the SS750 & SS950 reels I have ran for ... MoreI grew up fishing Penn reels that had belonged to my grandfather and will likely still be cranking in dinner for my grandchildren years into the future. I will definitely test its limits and time will tell if it is as tough as my old Penn reels. The best part is I found the source for all of my heavy duty fishing needs here on fishingtackleshop.com.. Saved me a ton of cash on this reel and had stellar performance on customer service and shipping.

I bought a 6500 liveliner, 6500 long cast, and a 4500 long cast and I couldn't be happier. Keep in mind these reels are heavy duty, and heavy. But, I don't think they are too heavy to be a deal breaker, I personally love the weight of the reels. If you are surf fishing, chunking meat and setting the rod in a holder, it's no big deal. Now, if you are constantly casting plugs all day, you will notice the weight. I've read that this can cause fatigue. But, it doesn't bother me at all. The quality and strength of the reels override any weight issues. They are so smooth to reel in, cast after cast, fish after fish. I enjoy reeling my bait in. The longcast is just that, a long casting reel. If you have mastered the art of long casting, it will add a noticeable distance to your casts. I inadvertently hooked a 200 to 250 pound sea turtle, and the drag was so smooth. No stutters, stickiness or binding. Just smooth stopping power. The reel performed flawlessly.. I was also able to try my 4500 longcast with top water baits. I was casting 100 plus yards effortlessly. I did land a huge jack with that one. Again, the drag was smooth and responded with the slightest of adjustments. The reel was just as easy to reel hooked to a running jack as it was with just the lure.Anyway, if you're looking to buy some reels that will last a lifetime, and don't want to pay 400 to 600 dollars for each reel, these are what you're looking for. You'll be proud to own these, that's how good they are.

Okay, this is a gift to my son who wants to fish halibut. After researching a bit we have decided to give fishing a chance after years of absence. He recognized this reel for size, quality and longevity. One of the good qualities are the seals that give this reel a little resistance to salt water erosion.More than that t sounds like it will be built using CNC building. The fact that this is built in China was at first a little discouraging but, I think the quality will be good as it is overseen b6 a good company. We have not used it as it is a Christmas present but, I truly believe it is worth the money and the effort it took to find it.

Very strong reel. Pulled in a very big stingray with pure raw power. That thing was going no where. Going to feel very confident when i hook my next bull red. Great product no issues so far.

[Rewarded Review] Love the Spinfisher VII

I love my new PENN spinfisher reel. Works perfectly for surf fishing and especially love that it is sealed and can take the sand and salt water without any worry.

This reel is noted that the 6500 and up sizes are a manual bail trip. I ordered the 5500 expecting to find an auto bail trip as advertised and it is not, it was manual also. Why can't all size reels be an auto trip bail system? Otherwise super smooth and solid like all other penn reels.
