I got this lens for street photography and some portraits. So far, it's been great: it's *very* sharp, very light, and very solid. The auto-focus is also quite fast and accurate--which is a good thing, because using the manual-focus ring on a pancake lens is a little difficult to get used to. The focus ring is so slim that it's 1. hard to find with your hand when you're already looking through the lens and 2. a little difficult to manipulate because it is so thin. Also, while the metal, screw-top lens cap and hood do feel very solid and well-made, the cap itself is tiny enough to lose easily, and also requires a minute to remove--so if you're trying to capture the decisive moment, you *really* need to keep that lens cap off, more so than with normal lenses.So far ... MoreI got this lens for street photography and some portraits. The focal length is very usable, even though it gives a very slightly narrower angle than a 35mm, but I can't say I actually notice that. Mechanically it works and feels great, and image quality is nice too. Highly recommended if you want a compact setup.

Ive had this lens for over two years. Its always performed great, image and build quality are excellent, I use it all the time. Its not about having a large aperture, its having a relatively fast normal lens without taking almost any space in the bag. If you like to travel light, or want a standard lens to complement wider or longer zooms, this is an excellent choice.
Great build quality, same for iq, tiny, very usable focal length on both apsc and 35mm. What more could you ask for? Faster aperture? Yes, it is not the fastest prime out there, but it's not that slow either and a compromise worth making given the other qualities it has.
Stunning lens. I have no surprises as to how great this lens is as it is replacing the original SMC version that I bought back in 2006. Unfortunately I dropped the original badly and it is out of collimation. I am so happy to have the new one on my camera again! I love it.
A great compact light weight lens for everyday use. This lens focuses quickly and quietly. The only drawback is the fixed focal length at 40 mm; after using my camera with a 17 - 70 mm zoom for years it seems limiting in what pictures can be taken.A good lens for everyday shots but for varying subject distances it can seem restrictive.
