Toyota's black FIPG is real great, but it's also real expensive. This is the next best thing if you can't get staff sales. Some applications will call for a bead between 1-5mm in diameter, but in some cases I've found that smearing it on mating surfaces provided a better seal than the bead.

Hunted around after a lot of research for a gasket maker for the 2006 Subaru Forester EJ253 boxer engine heads I was refurbishing. The OEM product was hard to source and very pricey. The specs on this product and forum info convinced me to try it and so far it’s doing the job. It’s not the replacement for the head gasket, just the intermediate rocker body section gasket. I would not recommend using it for the heads!

I’ve been using Permatex Grey for years. It’s a great product for sealing sumps, valve covers, differentials, and other areas requiring an unpressurized oil seal.Start with completely clean and dry surfaces, and don’t use too much. Let it set for at least 24hrs before using. It doesn’t tolerate massive heat - use Permatex red or a dedicated exhaust sealer for hotter applications.
I bought this to seal up a bolt in my timing case on my 20 year old Au falcon. I recently fixed the typical oil leak from the chain tension but gave myself an oil leak from the timing chain cover. This product sealed up the problem bolt 100% and I fully recommend this product. I have used it over a 2 year period for a variety of uses and have never been disappointed. Recommended fully
Easy to use, multiple applications (I use a little on the sump plug and washer each time I change the oil in my car).I’ve used it during engine rebuilding and it is very good - with correct and careful application it has not failed.
This is a great product and always seals as advertised. Be aware that if the tube has been open for a long time (12 months) even though the sealant appears OK, the sealing qualities may be affected.

Takes too long to dry. I used it on engine sump and let dry for 24 hours. Assumed it was hardened but it didn't. Started leaking again in a couple of days. Then tried it around a thermostat housing. Left it again for 24 hours and used hair dryer and fan in tandem to dry out. It started leaking in a few days. Only thing it sealed properly was a timing chain cover. Once it hardens, it makes a nice seal but it's too long to harden for practical use. Won't recommend...
