A crash pad you can CRASH on!

Bought this crash pad for a climbing road trip across the west. Love how you can lounge on it. Slept on it a couple of times before the trip just to see how comfy it was.Did a lot of bouldering in joes valley with this pad. Takes falls like a champ! I also love how there's a flap that zips over the carrying straps! Definitely came in handy when bouldering over mud. Didn't have to deal with a muddy back! It's a taco style pad, so there's no separation. The flap covers the bottom of the pad when folded so you can stuff water bottles down there and not worry about them falling on the way to the crag.I'd buy a 2nd one. Maybe in the future!

This pad is huge and it's what you'd want to land on from falling from highballs or even low balls. However, I found all the extra features annoying. It's not a pad where you can just open it and your ready to climb. Unzipping, folding, and re-zipping, I found to be a big time waster, especially if I was short on time. Weight was not an issue for me. It's actually quite light, but the shoulder straps are very thin and eventually dug into my shoulders after hiking for a while. It sat in my trunk for the longest time, as I didn't want to deal wt the inconveniences of the zipper. I eventually sold it at half price.

Awesome crash pad for big lads

Great crash pad, I'm about 65kgs soaking wet but my bro who I climb with is around 100kgs, this is great, adds a lot of confidence when bouldering and really takes out the impact, plus packs up really well and easy, and unpacks well too and easy to walk around with. Totally recommend.

Best Pad Ever
11 April 2020

I have had this pad for about 8 months and it is awesome! When I go climbing with other friends and use their crash pads I always think, "Man, my crash pad is WAY nicer". Also when someone forgets there sleeping pad they ask to sleep on my pad. It is a pure joy to fall on! So comfy. And the taco design makes it great to carry all your other stuff. I have never seen a better pad. And the shoulder straps are comfortable as well. Best pad ever!

Crash Pads Are Rad!
11 April 2021

Recently went on a road trip to Red Rocks for bouldering and some multi-pitch climbing. On our first bouldering session my friends and I knew we had struck gold! Although the price is steep, the coverage, support and comfort in landing on the pad is worth the price.

Giant...and that's a good thing
14 October 2019

This thing is MASSIVE. Good cushion that won't let you bottom out even falling on your feet from 15 feet. The way that it opens up and covers the backstraps from touching the ground makes it great because you don't have to worry about it getting messed up. Comfortable and light to carry and can wedge all your goodies between the cushions when you need to carry a bunch of other gear without having to rock a "front backpack" situation.

Great Pad
18 October 2022

Very durable material and is a nice landing area. It is a lot more firm than other pads I have had which makes higher falls much nicer. Also being able to store all your stuff in-between the pads is a big plus.

Great crash pad - easy to carry!

Great, sturdy, and large for bouldering. We also double use it as a sleeping pad when travelling in our van. Backpack straps positioned for easy carrying - a great climbing accessory!

Great pad with many features.
12 April 2015

I really like my Petzl crash pad and it is the best pad I have ever had. I really like the zipper closure system. I have used the pad heavily for more than 6 months and the zipper still works as well as it did on day one. I find there is plently of room inside the pad when it is closed for my gear and my camera bag, which is great. The thing I like the best about this pad is the weight. I have 3 other pads that are roughly the same size and they are all considerably heavier than the petzl pad. Overall I love this pad and think it is really well thought out and very functional.

I would not recommend this pad
29 March 2015

This pad seemed like a great buy with all the features it offers: the zipper prevent your stuff from falling off the pad, it is possible to quickly carry the pad to another nearby boulder using a shoulder strap and it can make a nice couch to sit on beside the fire at night. However, everyone of those features turned out to be real disadvantages, except the couch beside the fire was great. First, as soon as I took the pad to a sandy area (Bishop), the zipper became really difficult to zip and unzip. It got stuck so many times that it sometimes took me 5 minutes of hard pulling to finally manage to close it. When you are tired after a boulder problem this is a real pain. It comes to the point where you hope that others will have enough pads so you don`t have to open ... MoreThis pad seemed like a great buy with all the features it offers: the zipper prevent your stuff from falling off the pad, it is possible to quickly carry the pad to another nearby boulder using a shoulder strap and it can make a nice couch to sit on beside the fire at night. However, everyone of those features turned out to be real disadvantages, except the couch beside the fire was great. It got stuck so many times that it sometimes took me 5 minutes of hard pulling to finally manage to close it. When you are tired after a boulder problem this is a real pain. It comes to the point where you hope that others will have enough pads so you don`t have to open yours. Second, because of the zipper is so tight, there is not much room to put large stuff inside the pad. I like to carry a small backpack with my lunch, but it was really hard to fit in. Third, the pad is almost twice as heavy as most large pads and it hurt my back on even short uphills approaches (15 mins). Because it is so heavy, it is very uncomfortable to carry the pad using the shoulder strap as well and felt like it was putting a high load on one shoulder. Finally, someone pointed out to me that the landing material is kind of slippery and you could possibly fall strangely on it and hurt yourself. Fortunately, this did not happen to any of us.This pad gets one star because the foam is really good and you can tell it will last a long time. So it is a good landing zone for highballs. But because all the other disadvantages, especially the zipper, it is really not worth the high price. I would never buy this pad again or recommend it to anyone.
