I first purchased Medium Nib Namiki Vanishing point and it was super nice but I started writing really wide short sentences, after losing the first one : / I purchased a Fine nib version. It's not as smooth as the medium but I like it. Its very functional and it keeps me writing in my journal.

Quick notes fountain pen to go

Got the pen quickly and the deal is so good. The Fine nib is a bit soft and broader than my custom 742 Fine. Initially, it has some sweet spots, but later as I used it more I cannot feel the issue. It seems 30g weight will be too heavy for me, but after I used it, it is not an issue to me. Retractability is so convenient and definitely makes vanishing point the one to go if I need to write down something quickly.

[Pilot] Vanishing Point (Fine Nib): A Great Pen For A Sleek and Reliable EDC!
26 March 2020

Description: The overall feel of the pen itself is incredible; the matte black finish showcases an unchanging grip, which has proven fantastic for long writing sessions (no more slippery pen). The pen also features a bit of heft to it. I was originally concerned with how my hand would feel after a full workday, but to my surprise, it was one of the most comfortable pens I've experienced. The pen writes similarly to an expensive motorcycle: incredibly well, as long as proper technique and routined maintenance is performed. The (fine) nib does seem to have a sweet spot, but after writing for an hour or so it becomes almost second nature. When I got the sweet spot down, the ink proceeded to flow almost like butter and glide over the paper with ease. For care, I'd recommend doing a bit of research on topics such as how to clean the body, nib unit, converter, etc. There are plenty of videos showcasing how to clean each part and they should be taken care of well! *PLEASE NOTE* - The ink CANNOT be refilled with the nib unit still inside the pen! If you do this, you will end up filling the inner body of the pen itself (not a fun time to clean). I have seen many posts of people doing this and it does not look like fun, plus it's a waste of ink! Take the nib unit out of the pen, then dip that into the ink and fill with a converter if that is your preferred method! Cartridge/Converter: If bought new, the pen will come with two additional add-ons within the box. One prefilled "non-reusable" Pilot cartridge and One CON-40 cartridge converter. - The "Cartridge Converter (CON-40)" Cartridge converters are very convenient for being able to use bottled inks within pens that would normally take prefilled cartridges. Some are fantastic and have a great ink capacity, but unfortunately, the CON-40 is not one of them. The CON-40 in the fountain pen world is looked down upon, and for good reason. The converter usually only holds about 0.4 mL of ink, which compared to the Pilot prefilled cartridges, usually holds 0.9-1 mL of ink. Not only that, due to the location of the breather hole on the Pilot VP, you can only get the converter about 1/2 full. If you want to use the converter, I'd recommend taking it out of the nib unit and filling it via a syringe. - The "Non-Reusable" Cartridge This is my preferred method of using different bottled inks. The "non-reusable" cartridges are reusable. I've probably filled mine about 6-7 times now and I am just now going to buy a pack of them. This is fantastic because unlike the converter's 0.4 mL of ink capacity, the cartridge has a capacity of about 0.9-1 mL of ink, more than double. It's really simple as well, simply after a cartridge has been used, thoroughly rinse and clean cartridge with water until all remnants of the previous ink have been washed out. Then let it dry out so the residual water is no longer in the cartridge. Finally, use a blunt-tipped syringe to draw ink from the bottle and insert the tip into the hole on the cartridge and fill the ink! This works great for me as I love writing and thus, do so a lot. It may be a LITTLE bit more expensive, but personally, having 2x the ink capacity per fill is worth it. I'd recommend only using a cartridge 5-8 times, if it starts getting loose, it's time to switch them out. Ink: Personally, while using the (fine) nib, I have found inks with a little more wetness to them seem to flow perfectly in the Vanishing Point. I have used inks that are more viscous in the pen, but the issue seems to be how fast it dries out within the feed. The inability of the ink to flow down into the feed causes some scratchiness and streaks while writing. As mentioned above, to avoid this, get ink that has a lubricant or is generally less viscous. Conclusion: Overall, this pen is a fantastic choice for someone looking to dip their toes into the more expensive fountain pen world and doesn't want to spend an outrageous amount of money on a pen.
