So far, this is my favorite Pilot pen, and maybe my favorite pen in my small collection. It writes like a dream. It is probably the most balanced performer, it writes very smoothly but with a tiny bit of feedback (as I like). I love its design and size. In my opinion it is the best introduction to a 14k gold nib considering its price and performance. If you want a pen that looks good, is well priced, and will just perform and wove you a smile every time you write with it, just get this pen, you won’t be disappointed, but the opposite. It is the perfect everyday writer. I love mine in Fine nib.

I got this in EF nib and it writes a super fine line. The pen itself is beautiful and a joy to look at, provides a terrific writing experience, and feels like a quality item. I've mostly stuck with Iroshizuku inks since they're meant for the pen. I tried Diamine Writers Blood in it and it didn't work well, but Iroshizuku Yama-Budo was just lovely if you like to match the pen and ink. I'm currently inked with Asa-Gao and that's a nice blue. I have tiny handwriting so the EF nib works very well for me. There's a bit of feedback, so if you hate feedback go with the fine or bigger nib instead.

So I didn't get this from Goulet, not this time but I picked one up after finding it on sale for about $100. I figured why not, everyone seems to love these and I've heard the burgundy is being discontinued. My first impression is that the box is super generic. Nothing special at all, I would rather it just come in a plastic sleeve than have to hold on to a junky box. The pen itself is incredibly light weight. It has a pretty inexpensive feel to it, I wasn't blown away by it at all. Now to the important stuff, the nib. The nib is this pens saving grace. However, after receiving it in the mail, I'm quite pleased with the purchase and I'll leave my pros and cons below, which hopefully can help you decide to purchase this fine piece, whether you're leveling up your pen game like myself, or have been a collecting veteran for a while.Pros: - Lightweight, but doesn't feel TOO light. I've had a few pens before that feel so light, that they feel too cheap to even be using, but the E95s feels just right. This pen's weight distribution is perfect for long writing sessions, and sustained its comfort throughout my day of calls with work clients and the subsequent note taking I was doing. - Price is justifiable, and aided by Pilot's reputationThe price, while not necessarily inexpensive, is cheap compared to the vast majority of gold-nib pens and offers a first-class writing experience, premium build and design, while being insured by a company that is known for quality offerings in the pen world. I don't think you'll find another gold-nib pen for this price, that also holds true to the quality that its maker preaches. - It looks even better in person. This pen is absolutely GORGEOUS. In person, this thing looks like it's worth $200+. The inlaid nib, the sleek, black, glossy body, and gold hardware, make for a timeless, yet subdued design. By subdued, I mean no disservice to the pen. But when I look for a pen, I don't necessarily want something super flashy and distracting. I'm not into statement pieces, but rather subtle elegance, and the E95s delivers. - The cap. The cap is absolutely to die for. The pistons on the inside of the cap make for the smoothest capping and un-capping experience I've ever had. It's amazing and definitely makes pulling out the pen that much more fun.Cons:- The nib is not what I expected (BUT DON'T WORRY). The nib is GREAT, don't get me wrong. However, I'm the kind of writer who likes a smooth, glossy experience, and I was quite torn deciding to go with either the medium or fine nib. I decided to go with the fine nib, because review after review stated that the fine nib was a wet writer, and that a medium nib would just be an absolute ink gusher. However, my nib, while responsive, and a pleasure to write with, does give off a scratchy feel. I'm using a Leuchtturm notebook and Pilot Iroshizuku Blue, and find that the line is ever-so-slightly thinner and scratchier than I would've liked. This is a tiny gripe, and I still love the way the pen writes, it will just take a bit of getting used to. If you're a fan of scratchier nibs, but don't want to go all the way down to an EF, then I think the fine would suit your needs just fine. - Con Converter :(((((I LOATHE this converter. I decided not to get a replacement because I didn't think those little metal balls would be an issue once the ink was in, but I can still hear that annoying rattle - ugh. It's okay for now, as I'll order a replacement converter but I wish Pilot wouldn't use this as their E95s standard. That's it! I think this pen is GREAT. It's cool, it's sleek, it's timeless and from an amazing company. Not to mention it's the perfect introduction into the world of gold-nibs. I highly recommend.

I got the Black and Gold with "EF" nib and whoo boy is it just BUTTER and ooh soo fine. Worked well right out of the package. The pen is lightweight but by no means feels cheap, I value the lightness because I have disabilities and fatigue easily. I have no problem with the size of the grip section, it is small but comfortable for me personally and I have big hands. The uncapping and posting is just so smooth yet secure. If you want the "EF" nib I would recommend using lubricated/wetter inks such as Monteverde, just to avoid flow issues or dryness, I found the included pilot black cartridge to be drier but doing great ... MoreI'm very happy I pulled the trigger on this one. This pen would fit in a pocket in a smaller handbag yet writes like a full size pen - once the cap is posted. This is astonishing.A few small items:- I inserted the cartridge and impulsively tried the pen without waiting to "prime" the feed yet it wrote immediately and was a delight to use from the very beginning.To my amazement as I relaxed into writing I found the nib very flexible: I had forgotten how much better cursive writing looks with a modestly flexible nib.....The quality of the writing experience, from nib to cap, and let us not forget that THIS PEN IS GORGEOUS - this pen is really great value for the price. I've tried a few steel ribbed pens recently that were more expensive.Would I love a standard cartridge and a piston filling system? Would I like a larger capacity converter definitely. Thing is, I do not think there is a pen out there that performs like this one with those "upgrades" for anything close to this price point. So bottom line, nothing wrong with the pen that I know of, it just wasn't for me after I actually got it, tried it, and worked with it. It also is on the lighter side (but does NOT feel cheap) which again, I love, but your mileage may vary. Finally the only downside I've experienced so far is that the compatible converter is the CON40 and when inserted, the barrel covers the level of ink. But that's a really minor issue for me.
I got a Pilot E95s fine from Makoba last week. It is my first gold nib pen. It is a fine writer and fulfilled all my expectations of a gold nib. Bharath from Team Makoba helped we a lot with my nib choices. I was undecided between Extra Fine and Fine. Bharath help me with picture and videos of writing sample, and I finally settled for Fine nib. The pen is a wet and smooth writer. The Fine writes a bit thinner than Lamy or Kaweco fine nibs. The feel of gold nib is unique and different from the other 7 steel nib pens I own.I sincerely thank Bharath and Makoba for this wonderful experience.
