A seriously excellent product. I was sick of pulling weeds and bought this product around 5 years ago. Yup. And it took me ages to spread and get the thickness just right. You have to lay it thickly to stop the weeds. Speaking of which, that in the last 5 years, I've not had to pull a single weed out, nor top it up. The Black look against your greenery and flowers simply look outstanding and the Black over time does lose a little bit of black but over all it still looks fantastic. 10/10. However, the negative is the weight of the bags which are 50Litres and not light but ok for young n fit with no back issues. I decided to build a new garden and refresh a couple of new ones so I bought 12 bags from bunnings. The black colour was gone after one day of rain. the previous mulch is still black but the new bags are now brown and have destroyed the design and effect.I am very unhappy. Hopefully, the images show the loss of colour and the difference between new and old.This is from the bunnings website "Pinegro's Black Cypress mulch is ideal for all garden types, providing long-lasting colour." this is simply not true

This week I bought this mulch for my garden…..it looked great until I watered it! The black started to wash off immediately, so much so that I could see where I had watered! The sad thing is that even knowing this product will not retain its colour I will have to buy more to finish the garden bed for consistency sake. I would recommend avoiding this product. I know I will in future.

I got four bags to tidy up my front yard. Will need another bag to finish the edges. Got lots of compliments from neighbours. You can see how the dianella pop. Definitely a great choice by my husband, and so well priced. Thanks Bunnings.
This product looks very nice just immidiately after being out of the wrap. However, the black colour changes to brown (normal wood colour) in 2 weeks after the spreading. It is quite disappointing to buy something that is advertised to be black (and one assumes it would last at least couple of months) but it changes to brown so quickly. Avoid this product if you want a permanently black mulch. You can see the difference of fresh and 2-weeks old mulch in one these photos side by side.
Even though this is one of the only black mulch options that Bunnings sell (in Vic, AFAIK) this product was extremely good quality. Ive used it in my garden for around 3 months now in rain, hail and shine and hasnt faded or washed away at all. The black looks incredible and super premium compared to normal mulch and am happy it doesnt look like I'll need to backfill/refill my garden beds anytime soon!
I brought 20 bags this morning from my local Bunnings (a pallet) I called up before going to make sure they had enough in stock and they were kind enough to then put it aside for me as I was 20 mins away + that’s all they had. They even took it all the way to the timber yard so I could easily just pay and load into the car, very easy and awesome customer service Bunnings, Even had assistance loading them into the car for me.As for the product it self, I’m super impressed with not only the colour but most importantly the quality it was GREAT! all sized the same nice and even and easily distributed across the garden bed with No yucky bits. The outcome speaks for itself… WE LOVE IT! We will definitely use this brand in any future gardening projects and highly recommend.
Convenient and easy to apply for smaller gardens. I find the bags are less messy than having a heap of mulch dumped in your yard and you can spread at your convenience. The black looks great and keeps your garden weed free and moist.
As a goth and cleaning up my 100 year olde garden for the realestate, my partner and kids Dad died in April and it’s been very satisfying laying this black mulch down in my garden beds. I think it looks awesome and should know as I have awesome ascetic taste. I recommend it.
It’s a good basic mulch that does the job.Something to be mindful of is a dye or stain used to blacken the chips as it has not dried or set.This comes off the chips onto anything they touch. So if you laying the mulch near a porous substance ( bluestone paving or concrete) it may stain. I cleaned mine as soon as I noticed. And it cleaned up with a little elbow grease. It was a shock to see this as I feel if I had have left them to dry it may not have been as easy to clean and may have penetrated its way into the porous materials resulting in a more permanent stain
