Best upgrade for small speakers

So I adjust the gain less than half way.I set the low pass crossover, using the remote, at 85 Hz in the Falcon (good quality 5x7 door speakers), and at around 110 in the van, due to the small front speakers. In this case do not set a LPF on your head unit, but use the remote only. High pass for the speakers can be set on your head unit, I have those values a bit higher, to allow for some overlap. My only gripe is that the remote and its cable are quite bulky and I'd much prefer not to use it, but that would affect the frequency response of the subwoofer. For some reason the frequency curve in best when the remote is plugged in.

The controller is really what sets this thing apart. The ability to actively adjust the gain and frequency is a game changer.Excellent build quality, very impressive sound considering the size. I would highly recommend getting this on sale. At the time of purchase I paid $229 which I think is an absolute steal for the quality, it's not a cheapy and that is very apparent when you get your hands on it.FYI you need to buy a stereo RCA cable as it does not come with one!

I bought this to install in my commodore ute, and I gotta say, for such a compact little unit it kicks out a really clear, warm bass tone and plenty of punch. Don't expect this thing to kick you in the chest like say, a 10" or 12" sub, but if you're looking to add some low-end to your car's sound profile without blowing your eardrums apart, this little guy does the job just nicely. My only suggestion is to also grab some inline low and high pass filters to split the sound more appropriately to clean up the sound profile since these subs have no built in LPF. Harrison labs makes these really handy RCA inline LPFs and HPFs that go inline with your speakers, and all you do is simply split off your audio from your RCA leads, install pair of HPFs on the leads going into ... MoreI bought this to install in my commodore ute, and I gotta say, for such a compact little unit it kicks out a really clear, warm bass tone and plenty of punch. These subs have a max frequency response of 200Hz, so use their 200Hz ones in both HPF and LPF.I would also suggest adding some velcro to the base to stop them flying around the floor, although in my case they sit nicely between the seats.I'm planning on getting a second sub to go under the driver's seat. You'd best believe it's going to be another one of these. Good show, Pioneer!

Excellent unit
13 January 2023

Upgraded head unit and front speakers - but any frequencies below 80kHz just distorted door speakers. I trimmed out the low frequencies on the head unit - but just missed that bottom end. This pioneer slimline sub just fills in below 100kHz with warm unobtrusive bass. Delicious. Not massively powerful - that’s not what it is designed for - just fills in the bottom end richly. This was installed under passenger seat. Fit easily. I didn’t use the bolt down attachments but Velcroed to carpet. Running wires was a bit of a challenge - but got there.Head unit had dedicated rca out for sub so I didn’t use the provided ‘remote’ - it’s all controlled from the head unit.Need to be comfortable pulling out head units and chasing power wires and removing car trim to install.

GREAT SPEAKERS!!
13 July 2022

I bought these subs to go with my amplified 6.5 inch speakers that had HEAPS of mid and treble, but were lacking in the bass department. I considered a boxed 12 inch sub but I opted with these because they were so easy to install and fitted under the seats. SUPER HAPPY I did! These things rock, granted they won't beat the big subs but they pack plenty of punch. If you told me you had 8 or 10 inch subs under the seat, I couldn't tell the difference. I bought one at first and it was OK, but a bit meh.. I bought a second one and WOW. Since then heaps of people have gotten in the car and said that the sound system is mint. Couldn't recommend a pair of these speakers more.

Great sub

This unit works really well. It does not come with RCA cables so you will need to buy some if you plan on using RCA to connect to the head unit. Otherwise there are supplied cables which are meant to be connected to the existing speaker wiring (I would consider this a much harder option and more wire concealing necessary, but if you have a stock head unit chances are you won't be able to connect RCA cables)In my case this unit helped with distributing power to the speakers and head unit and now produces a great sound without distorting. To give some context to my setup, I changed my factory unit to a pioneer deck and 4x 6.5 " speakers using the existing wiring and mounting locations before adding this sub afew months later. Before the sub was added speakers ... MoreThis unit works really well. Perfect for what it is.
13 November 2021

I just finished installing and playing with the EQ. And it is exactly what I was after! Wanted to keep stock head unit, and speakers. But wanted a bit more punch in the Bass to compliment the rest of my premium stereo. Obviously it won't provide window rattling bass. It does add a dynamic depth to an existing stock system! Easy to install, everything in the box, except the RCA leads sadly. But a pair of them are cheap enough. Highly recommend. And the remote is a huge bonus! Hid it away in my centre console, easy to reach and adjust on the fly.

Im old school. I've grown up on dual 15in, 12in sub setups so wasnt expecting much from this. Well i was right in my expectations. It didnt sound right to me. But then i thought, am i being harsh. The answer, Yes. Because the smile on my wifes face when she cranked it up was more than enough for me to say this things awesome. If you are the type of person that wants the Bass to rattle your bones then this is not for you. But if space is at a premium as in my wife Triton then bung one of these under your seat and enjoy what it does. Hell you might even get a smile out of someone as well.

Quality and Value

Highly recommended. Compared to a bulkier 'Fusion' 8" underseat subwoofer that I owned years ago, the Pioneer TS-WX130DA performs much better - in a much more compact size. In a nutshell, the Pioneer just performs like a much higher quality sub and appears to punch above it's weight.Depth of bass reaches lower than the Fusion. Not 12" sub depth, but definitely low enough that it shocks you that it is all coming from an 8" x 5" subwoofer cone. I have it set to 'Deep' (rather than 'Dynamic') and both the Frequency Crossover and Gain Volume each set at 50%. This should set the crossover frequency around ~87 Hz. For a hatchback, I would HIGHLY recommend mounting somewhere in the boot, if possible. Mounting in the boot appears to produce much deeper bass and more powerful overall presence/volume (as is the case with ALL the Hatches and subwoofers I have owned in my lifetime). Mounting underseat, while space saving, really reduces the depth of bass frequencies. I managed to still save space, by simply bolting it onto the plastic side wall of the boot with the included self-tapping screws. So no boot space taken and sounds so much better in the boot. Note that boot mounting is mainly recommended for Hatches, with an open cabin - sedan boots actually insulate the bass from the main cabin. But yes, if you can find it for close to $200 (like at Repco), then it is DEFINITELY worth the money!

Coming from comp audio and competing in SPL competitions, i was hesitant in buying this sort sub. I've quit competition style events and moved on in the real world and now need space in my car. Every so often I would have to remove my subs to gain access to the boot and now gotten over doing this all the time. Seeing the reviews, I had to buy a pair and test them to see if it was any good for later installs. There is no replacement like displacement but still very impressed by it's punchy output. It is clean sound and the level can get loud and shake the seats nicely without breaking up. Very impressed by it's output, very happy with the purchase. There is one thing that I wish Pioneer could of improved on, when you buy 2 or more, I wish you could use one remote and link them up. Looks overkill with 2 remotes up front, or maybe I went overkill. Other than that, I couldn't go without 2 of them. Well done Pioneer, excellent product.
