Pioneer VSX-834 - AV receiver - 4K - HDR - 7.2 channel - 7 x 165 Watt

I was looking for a way to stream music from my phone to my home theater and I found this. The Pioneer VSX-834 AV Receiver is a powerful, easy-to-use receiver that offers immersive surround sound, including Dolby Atmos and DTS:X. It also supports a variety of streaming services and can decode Dolby Atmos Height Virtualizer* and DTS Virtual:X. Zone B lets you enjoy music playing in the Main Zone via wireless headphones. In a 15% slimmer design than the previous model, the VSX-834 is full of easy-to-use features, including the 4K indicator, and Personal Preset.

Have owned for a few months now and couldn’t be happier this is my first home theater receiver usually only owned stereo receivers but the options you have available on this one is mind boggling i would highly recommend this unit to anyone it’s well worth the money but if u aren’t tech savvy i would recommend trying to get someone to hook this up so you get the full potential

Amazing

Sound quality is superb as is the build quality. Had a few problems at first but once I bought the correct HDMI cables (my old cables couldn't handle the data transfer speed) everything was fine. Really is a quality product as I would expect from Pioneer.

Easy to Setup Pioneer Support is Great

Got the new Receiver and setup. Could not play 4k 60hz HDR on my devices. Contacted Pioneer support and found the receiver has a hidden function that tells it if you have Premium HDMI Cables. It is set default to Main. Need it set to Enhanced. After that hiccup it is a great receiver.

Excellent sound effect

I received this 2 weeks ago and connected to my old speakers, 7.1 channel. The surround sound from different speakers truly feels like immersed in the true environment. The subwoofer output is preamp only will need an active amplifier to drive the subwoofer speaker

Perfect lower budget receiver.

If you have the funds definitely get a higher model. But this definitely fits my living situation and budget. Keep in mind that this does not come with speakers. Don't expect this receiver to be a power house, your next door neighbors probably won't be bothered. But if you're in an apartment or shared house you will get complaints. At higher volumes. If you have about 500sqf of living room space and taking advantage of the 2 sub outputs you will have a better experience then most local theaters.

Pioneer VSX-834

Not happy with this item at all.. The Settings menu is terrible, The HDMI hook up does not recognize my laptop. The sound does not go higher than 18? There are no additional plug ins on the back of the amp so you can control all your stereo components with 1 button click. The sound itself is terrible with not even a bass or treble button to help adjust.. Boxed it back up and am returning and going back to my Technique receiver which is leagues better.

Price Match Failure!

The receiver is great, but the ordering process was horrible. I called Walmart to do a price match and they agreed to do so after the item was delivered. I called back after delivery and they told me they could not honor the price match. I asked why they told me they would honor it earlier and they had no good reason. I ended up paying more than planned and very disappointed in how Walmart misrepresented the pricing of the receiver and their willingness to match their competitors.

Very good quality for the price!!

Goods received as expected. Surprisingly good for a receiver at that price range. Have to read the manual to get the full potential, specially with the firmware update!! At first couldn't get HDR 10 and the right resolution, activated HDMI enhance (firmware up.) and everything is in order. Satisfied customer ;-)

Very happy with this receiver!

Have now had about 4 months of experience with the VSX834. But I am not an audiophile.Setup was easy using the setup program and microphone. And the ARC return signal displayed the menu and progress perfectly. Connecting the receiver to a game console, Amazon Firestick 4K, My Blu-Ray Disc player and my cable provider's 4K signal, plus a Samsung 4 K TV all went smoothly. And the picture quality upscaling by the receiver works well.Am happy with the sound from my 5.1 system, using PSB speakers. Better than that from an older VSX-818. Live in a 1 bedroom apartment, so volume is not at all an issue. Plenty loud enough to cause major complaints from neighbours!Overall I have very few niggling gripes. I'm still trying to find out why the receiver turns off when the video source is powered off. I'd prefer to have the volume control on the remote located in the middle of the remote rather than very close to the bottom. When I first set up the receiver I found a firmware update was available, so downloaded it as per instructions, but the install kept failing!Pioneer U.S. finally resolved the issue. My receiver hah had the update installed prior to it being shipped to me! A "B" in front of the serial number confirmed that. But finding the correct contact number at Pioneer (Canada or the U.S) was a lengthy and frustrating process.Despite these issues, the combination of price point, performance and ease of setup makes it a 5 star receiver for me.
