I am 43 and decided to put away my stick burner and buy this Pellet Grill due to time restraints. Man, i was so excited to smoke amazing meats. On my 2nd time ever using this brand new machine it started giving faulty codes that i couldn't find in the manuel. My pitboss had been down for weeks. i finally got through to customer service and they decided to send me a new ignitor. We tried to install the new ignitor by taking off the fire box, wire panel, the fan, and the hopper. After owning a treager for years which did not live up to it's advertised expectations I was pleasantly surprised with the pit boss. Our treager never got hot enough to really grill let alone sear never reaching 500 degrees.Only thing that I wish were different is the proximity of the grill rack so close to the fire chamber. We experienced uneven heating and hot spots which we remedied with a heavy cast iron plate to even out temperature fluctuation. It would be great if the cooking grates could be adjusted but our model had a very compact design. The temperature settings and operation couldn't be easier with dual temp probes I can keep one in a thick roast while using the other to test burgers and chicken parts for doneness. Even our dog knows when I go to turn the grill on there's a tasty treat on the way.

This grill is great except that the pellet auger keeps jamming. And when it does jam, it gives no warning or indication until the grill is almost completely cold. Then it dispays an error code only.It is almost impossible to sit and watch this grill the entire time using it to smoke meat. Who wants to sit outside and watch thier smoker for 6-12 hours straight? Not me.My advice to everyone is to not buy this grill. After using it for a few weeks I have already decided to replace it with a quality smoker grill. This means I have wasted $300.Get a higher quality grill that is wifi connected or gives some sort of immediate warming that the auger is jammed. Also get one that has a stronger auger motor.I am going to do a little research and see which brands make a ... MoreThis grill is great except that the pellet auger keeps jamming. I’ve had this pellet barbecue smoker for several months now and have been really enjoying it. The flavor it gives meat is unmatched compared to propane. I’ll never go back. My favorite pellet is the competition blend; it seems to go with everything. The temperature on the Pit Boss can maintain a steady temperature without fluctuating more than 5°. It’s made out of heavy-duty steel that should last many years. The temperature probes are extremely handy and work well.I do wish that the Lexington model had an easier way to open the flame broil cover. I believe the next model up has a rod that you can use to open it. I’m currently using a spatula. This model has an option to empty pellets out of the hopper, but they have changed the trap door to a plastic plug. It ... Walmart needs to update the photos. We’ve been doing way more barbecuing than we ever did before. I’m very happy with my purchase.
I bought this grill in June of 2022. By September of 2022 the probe that senses the heat and regulates the pellet feed malfunctioned. Pit Boss customer service finally sent a replacement part. Plan on being the repair tech yourself. Installed probe in the spring for the summer season. Used a few dozen times in 2023. Stored out of the winter weather and brought back out to use in late spring 2024. Grilled/smoked about 5 times and the probe is malfunctioning again and the smoker needs to be unplugged to turn it off. Customer service will send new probe again, when they arrive from China. Also will be sending new control board. I recommend spending a little more and purchase a higher quality smoker from another manufacturer.
I've never owned a pellet grill myself until purchasing this unit, but when I saw the price, I figured why not give it a shot. Assembly was moderately easy by myself and not too long after, I was outside performing the burnoff.Initial gripes (I know, it's the cheapest Pit Boss model. At least give us the option to make it better later!): There's no handle to slide your grates open for direct flame on the smoker. You must lift the grates with whatever you're smoking on them and slide the flame hood open manually with a stick or spatula. And there's not already a hole to add one aftermarket. - There's not a spot available to add a steam stack after market either. The only ventilation are the holes on the back of the unit. - From the research I've done, it doesn't ... The only ventilation are the holes on the back of the unit. - From the research I've done, it doesn't appear this particular model is available to upgrade to the smart Pit Boss control module. No Bluetooth controls or connectivity can ever be an option.Initial loves: This thing heats up quickly and stays consistent. When testing with an external thermometer, my unit has a variance of about /-4 to the set temp. - It's easy to use and if you have a good external meat thermometer, everything is basically automatic. - The food comes out tasting so good every time.Final notes: After smoking a pork butt, several pork tenderloins, a chuck roast, chicken breasts, chicken legs, bacon, and steaks on my unit, I've found that the ambient cooking temperature around the meat is on average about 50 degrees lower than the set temp, leading to much longer cook times than expected. I've recently tried increasing the heat 40 degrees higher than the desired temp on the Pit Boss unit and have been getting better cooking times and still achieving good results.grill
Great smoker but most definitely NOT for beginners. Before purchasing, make sure you understand that this is a PELLET fired grill,You CANNOT use conventional wood chips, chunks or logs. It burns pellets ONLY.Make sure you go to YOUTUBE and watch as many of the DO and DON'T videos as possible, so you know what you're getting into. This is NOT a Weber grill with a smoke attachment.Even after watching videos about this smoker. you will find that you're going to have to experiment until you gain enough confidence to risk an expensive slab of meat.Start with a Smithfield pork tenderloin so if you ruin it, you're not out 30 bucks.Fortunately, mine came out perfectly by using the included meat thermometer.Good luck !But once you've learned your way around this, the ... I brought my grill in Oct/Nov of last year and I have used it only twice it stopped working after 92 days. Pit Boss has sent parts and it still doesn’t work. Their customer service is absolutely non-existent. The reps are very rude and dismissive to customers and seemed to get an attitude if you have questions about the grill. The first time I called they sent me the wrong part to fix the problem the second rep says to me that there is nothing they can do about reps not knowing what they are doing and that is not his problem. So I immediately ask to speak with a supervisor and he begins to tell me the statistics of how many calls they get about grills not working and I am in the minority. My immediate response is sir I am concerned about the grill that I purchased ... MoreI brought my grill in Oct/Nov of last year and I have used it only twice it stopped working after 92 days. My immediate response is sir I am concerned about the grill that I purchased and only the one that I purchased. His solution is I will send you some spices for your trouble REALLY!!!! Sir the grill does not work so why do I need your spices I would much rather have a functioning grill!!!! In short do yourself a favor and choose another brand of pellet smokers you can thank me later!!! I will give it one star because it looks nice, and I can’t give it a negative star!!!
I was going to give it a 5-star review - right up till I pulled the last sticker off, which pulled off about a 2-inch square of loose paint, revealing a rusty spot underneath. I called customer support, who was very congenital but couldn’t resolve the issue. They don’t offer a replacement part or touch-up paint. They do offer a $50 credit for merch on their website - a long as I call back in to use it - which I’ll probably never do.Decided to give it a 2-star to get their attention. They should have sent me a lid, or at least some paint. or, at the very least emailed me the $50 certificate instead of making me sit on the phone to place an order.Ok, having said all that - now I'll say if the paint hadn't had a defect, I'd easily give this 5 stars. It's an incredibly high quality product, by far the heaviest gauge steel I've ever seen on a grill. It’s very well engineered. It assembled easily in 20 minutes with just a screwdriver. Oh, and no busted knuckles. I'm quite certain this grill will last for at least 10 years, probably longer. I did the burn in and it fired right up first time. I can't believe the quality for the price. Of course, there is the paint issue. But, meh. I’m still very happy with the product.
Omg I am so glad I caught this on sale! It's the best smoker BBQ I have ever owned !it even beats my weber charcoal grill!the charcoal grill relaced a propane grill because i didn't like the taste of the propane .but this grill puts them to shame! It's a little awkward to put together, and the shipping box (which was the stores box )was almost completely destroyed by FedEx during shipping!i was dreading what awaited me inside the box and was preparing for a return.but to my surprise, everything in the box was not damaged at all, thank God!FedEx really drops the ball on shipping. i dont know why people, especially walmart, even use them anymore.if i where to purchase rhis again, i would go down to walmart and pick it up instead.all in all, it's a great ...
