Plantation 5 Year Old Barbados Rum (700ml)
Cognac Ferrand, today well known for its high-quality products on the world market, was created relatively recently as a result of a partnership agreement between businessmen Alexandre Gabriel, Jean-Domenic André, and Pierre Ferrand, a hereditary winegrower and cognac producer. The Ferran family has been producing this noble drink since the beginning of the 18th century, and over such a long time, a large amount of first-class cognac spirits accumulated in its cellars, which were not sold. Thanks to the entrepreneurial talent of Gabriel and Andre, the company managed to establish sales of cognac and promote the Pierre Ferrand brand on the international market. Over time, as a result of some disagreements, Pierre Ferrand, remaining a shareholder of the company, opened his enterprise, and Alexandre Gabriel and Jean-Domenic Andre are currently in charge of Cognac Ferrand. Today, the cognac house owns 60 hectares of vineyards in the Grand Champagne region, where, using organic processing methods, the Ugni Blanc and Colombard grape varieties are grown, from which the best spirits for Pierre Ferrand cognacs are produced. The company works closely with several distilleries located in the Caribbean and sells them cognac barrels. Once, during a business trip, Alexander Gabriel tasted several samples of rum, aged in barrels and intended for private consumption. He was pleasantly shocked by the richness of the aroma and taste of this drink. As a result, the idea arose to buy and bottle rare types of rum. Thus, among the products produced by the Pierre Ferrand cognac house, a wonderful collection of rums appeared under the Plantation brand, which immediately received high praise from specialists and a wide range of admirers of this wonderful drink.

I bought this bottle off of the recommendation of a YouTube cocktail master, and I'm certainly glad I followed his sage advice. This rum has an incredibly sweet nose, with a smooth and robust taste that can only be described as candy-like, with very little burn and a delicious finish. The flavor feels closer to a whiskey rather than a rum, but I suppose that's to be expected given the aging process. If you want something at a reasonable price point you can (and will most likely want to) enjoy neat, treat yourself to a Plantation 5 Year.

This is our goto everyday mixing rum. It has amazing flavor all on its own. It's also mild enough to use as a base for cocktails. Very complimentary with coke and mountain dew.

Put that Captain down, put away the sailor jerry, lock up the kraken and throw away the bacardi. THIS is a real rum, the smoothness, the flavor, the elegance of this rum is hands down the best at this price point. If you are going to entertain a lot of people, this may blow your budget, but if its just for you and some friends then you are going to IMPRESS then immensely once they try this. Amazing on its own, add a splash of coke though to take this over the top. Seriously in love with this rum!

If you conjure up a mental taste of what rum is/should be, this is very likely what most people would land on. Great flavor, smooth, tropical without being artificial. Caramel and bananas. Of course, those of us who are hardcore rum folks will want something bolder or more refined, but this is top shelf mixing and a great entry level sipping rum.
I was debating whether or not to get this rum for quite a while, as it's a little pricey, but it tastes wonderful. I tasted notes of caramel and spices with a hint of fruit. I'd recommend it if you enjoy nice sipping rums or cocktails. If you're looking for something cheap to put in coke, this may not be what you're looking for.
I'm not rating quite as high as some of the other reviewers. It is a rum I can sip and one I do mix as well. I find i smooth and caramel forward. A beautiful rum for the money and one I recommend often when people don't want to spend in the super premium range. But it is not of the same caliber as there XO, Ron Zacapa, Diplomatico, Rumson's Grand Reserve and Panama Pacifico. A good solid rum and the best value out there. When you want it affordable this is it. When you want a world class sipper it is one of the few listed above.
I maybe a little bias because I am a huge fan of Plantation's offerings, but this is one of my go to rums. Its good for sipping and great for cocktails. For the price it's a must have in stock at all times. Check it out!!!
Stopped by the Bevmo searching for a sipping rum to relax with at the end of the day, and the sales clerk suggested I try Plantation. AND WOW!!,The first thing I noticed was the hint of banana and vanilla. This stuff is BOMB!! I promise, you wont be dissapointed. And for the price($25) it cant be beat. Pair this with a Cohiba cigar!
This is really a fantastic rum. Beautiful balance of sweetness, baking spices, and hints of the cognac barrels in which it has been aged. A very good sipping rum with some warmth that stays with you for a bit. Excellent in cocktails, makes a fine daiquiri with flavor that shines through without being overpowering. Also great in the Outrigger:1.5oz Rum, 3/4 oz. Cointreau, 3/4 oz. Lemon Juice (fresh squeeze). Experiment with up to 1/4 oz. simple syrup (I like the extra sweetness personally...)Performs well above the price point. If you are looking for a fine rum from Barbados, or just in general, you should really consider this one.
There are better rums available for sipping at double the price. This is acceptable to drink neat and also is a fantastic rum for mixing for most cocktails.
