Platinum #3776 Century Fountain Pen Celluloid Midnight Ocean - Fine

Platinum #3776 Century Fountain Pen Celluloid Midnight Ocean - Fine

Model no. PTB-30000S #45. Dark blue variegated celluloid barrel with gold-plated trim. 14kt gold nib. '#3776' logo is engraved on the cap ring. The nib of the #3776 is a beautiful piece of work - made in-house at Platinum, and all are hand-tested at the factory. This nib and feed is the same as that used in the legendary Nakaya Urushi pens. The barrel is made by hand from sheets of celluloid which are rolled into the shape of the barrel rather than cast as blocks. Making the barrel in this way means that the craftsman can see the patterns in the celluloid prior to making the pen, allowing for the best variations in design to be achieved. As the celluloid is rolled into shape, there is a visible seam on each pen where the two ends of the celluloid meet. The production of celluloid pens is time-consuming as each celluloid piece needs to be thoroughly dried over the course of at least 6 months to guarantee that the material will not warp or deform. Fine, medium and broad nibs available. Supplied with a converter for use with bottled ink. Platinum recommends Platinum Fountain Pen Ink, though of course any quality bottled ink can be used. Also takes Platinum ink cartridges. Weight 20.6g, 130mm long closed, 118mm open, 150mm posted. 11.4mm max. barrel diameter. The #3776 name comes from the height in metres of Mt.Fuji, the highest and most beautiful peak in Japan. Supplied in a luxury giftbox.
