Platinum Preppy Clear Black Blue Medium Fountain Pen

I absolutely love these Preppy fountain pens. Great quality for the price and the ink cartridges don’t bleed through on all the notebooks I’ve tried so far. I reach for these over my fancier pens 9 times out of 10!

These are fantastic beginner fountain pens. They are typically easy to use, and Platinum's patented spring cap keeps them from drying out! They come with a cartridge that's replaceable, and if desired, these little pens could even be eye-droppered for more ink capacity. I've never done it, but I've heard of those who have. They're great, and I've had several. They are plastic, so if dropped, they could be prone to breaking. I've had one break on me, where the cap developed a crack and wouldn't stay on any longer. But to be fair, I'd also gotten a lot of use out of it! So I highly recommend these for trying out a fountain pen!

Good value for money

Amazing value for the money. The stainless steel nib glides across the paper and puts down ink with almost no pressure. The cap keeps the pen sealed and stops it from drying out. I left it for 2 months unused and it wrote perfectly after that. Only downside would be the included ink cartridge. The ink isnt very saturated and more grey than black. This is great as a beginners fountain pen and you cant go wrong buying one

Never used before.

Well this is the first time that have ever written with a fountain pen before and my expectation of doing so really had me amped. The only issue I had was trying to get the ink to flow, i assumed that it was like any other pen and I was wrong. I also wished that the instructions could have been in a larger font.

Platinum Preppy

I use pens for writing not as a fashion statement. This pen was hard starting. I pulled the cartridge and refilled with Diamine ink, now it writes and flows freely. A very good pen for notes and journals. It does what it is intended to do.Would recommend the converter so you can flush the pen to get it started.

Preppy Fountain Pen

Even though this is a very inexpensive fountain pen, it writes really well and has a nice hand feel. This is a pen all should have in their pen drawer. It is sturdy and can take a rough handling.I have 10 of these on hand, some for home and office use.I am not a eyedropper pen person but many use this pen as one.I use this pen with a cartridges and converters.

Preppy with fine nib and converter -- pleasant surprise

I have spent too many years using expensive fountain pens that wrote well but leaked ink all over my fingers, so I decided to see if I could make do with a cheap pen that I could afford to throw away if it leaked. A Preppy pen from Platinum was the easy choice on economic grounds, and I added a converter so I could use whatever ink I wanted and not have to mess with throw-away cartridges. I didn't have high expectations, but I didn't figure there was much to lose, either.I have been pleasantly surprised by this pen. The size is comfortable for my large hands, it writes very smoothly (fine nib), and it hasn't even thought about staining my fingers. I haven't figured out how to remove the label from the barrel without abrading the surface, but if I find I can't ... MoreI have spent too many years using expensive fountain pens that wrote well but leaked ink all over my fingers, so I decided to see if I could make do with a cheap pen that I could afford to throw away if it leaked. If you are looking to get started with fountain pens, or simply want a fountain pen that works with no fuss, just buy one.

Preppys are Great

Have had a few over the years, and they are such a good starter fountain pen. Only problems I've ever had was with the cap ; durability of the pocket clip, and the "snap" security of the cap. I suppose the latter was from wear or small cracks. Either way the Preppy is a great value, and one of the best things besides the price is the wide selection of nib sizes. You can also very simply make them eyedropper pens, or use a converter, which is costly if you have to buy a converter (Platinum converters are different from others, and so are their cartridges) but it can be done. Not sure it is worth it. I refill Platinum cartridges and am quite happy with that. I have a lot of (over 25) costly pens because I like variety, but honestly, very few give better writing ... MoreHave had a few over the years, and they are such a good starter fountain pen. More costly pens satisfy in other areas, such as aesthetics, but it is amazing a $3 pen can hold my attention when I have plenty of $200+ pens.

Surprisingly Smooth

This was a great surprise. Very smooth to write with and comfortable too. I purchased the M nib (0.5) and it was just a perfect experience. I have it in my purse to write whenever I need to.
