Platinum Procyon Fountain Pen - Persimmon Orange Medium

$52.08

(154 reviews)

The Procyon combines some great features in one understated pen. From the outside, it's a fairly minimalist design, but with some striking finishes. The Persimmon Orange finish is an unusual shade. A vivid orange with hints of pink, with a subtle matt texture. The nib is a new Platinum design, with a pentagonal profile, which they say gives it flex, for more responsive writing. There's only a small amount of line variation, but it does have a little springiness to it, which many people love. The feed is a new design, too, which will be a big help to those who use bottled ink with an optional converter. There's an inlet underneath the feed, for allowing air in when using the pen, and for the ink to enter when filling. The result is that you don't need to dip the whole nib and feed into the ink to fill it, as long as that hole reaches the ink. Platinum demonstrate it picking up the ink from a tilted bottle right down to the last drop. Less cleaning when you fill it up, and it makes your ink go further! 140mm long, 120mm uncapped, 156mm posted. Weighs 24g.

Color of pen misleading

Procyon pens are a great value in terms of the actual writing experience. However I thought this pen was actually going to be a little more orange in color. Instead it is more of a deep pink or salmon color, which to me is disappointing.

Excellent pen, but...

Platinum pens are, of course, in the top league of fountain pens. Therefore it was rather strange to find no converter supplied with the pen. The pen itself is, of course, excellent.

This pen works beautifully out of the box. No issues with the nib, writes well and smoothly. I like the light metal body and the slight texture of the pen. I find the threads and step down sit right at my fingers as I find the section on the short side. Pen posts well without back-weighting it. I also wish it came in a broad option but the medium I got has no issues.

Great Pen at a Great Price
28 May 2020

Already a big fan of the Platinum line, I was delighted to see they came out with a metal every day carry model. The Procyon is both stylish and smooth, with appointments normally only found on pricier pens, like metal bushings and twist caps. Finish is very smooth and in an excellent selection of colors. Will be back for more. Thanks for the deal!

Great pen!

The pen was brand new. Packaged very nicely! The pen started up right away and is a very smooth writer. Not much flex but you get some line variation when applying pressure differently. Overall good pen!

Looks good, writes well :)
23 April 2021

Despite dropping it nib-first and bending it badly within minutes of opening it, this is still a very nice pen. While I'm disappointed there's not a replacement nib option available from Platinum, I spent a few nights fixing it and it's back to writing well again. The pen looks great feels light but sturdy, the medium nib lays down a good line of ink with a significant bit of feedback (like a #2 pencil), and writes right away after being capped and put away for several days.I feel like it's a bit overpriced at $80, and should include a converter, but with the discount it was worth it.

MORE THAN A PREPPY
25 May 2021

This isn't just a glorified Platinum Preppy. While the nib is installed in the same manner as the Preppy, it's a different nib. And a much better nib. This section is much more substantial. And the pen is made out of metal with a pleasant to hold covering. It takes about two turns to uncap it. It came with one blue black ink cartridge. The Platinum cartridges seem as if they're packed under pressure. Once you install the cartridge, the ink floods the feed. Lay it on it side for a few minutes and you're ready to write. And the cartridge is so solid that you could probably wash out and use a hypodermic to refill them and use them as a converter. Unfortunately it does not come with a converter. Platinum uses a proprietary cartridge/converter system which I think is the best in the industry. Unfortunately, you almost have to mail order them because they aren't available in most stores. Platinum converters usually cost 9 or 10 dollars. Fortunately, the seller I bought from sold it to me at a very good price.

Procyon-Med Nib
5 March 2020

Amazing construction and balance. Med Nib is slightly larger than expected for a Japanese Nib, probably would prefer the Fine Nib for my style of writing. It does, however, work very well and ink flows generously with no scratchy feeling whatsoever. <5% of the time I have a hard start while using the pen for extended periods with the cap off. I would definitely buy another and recommend to anyone who is interested in a daily driver.

Superb pen, excellent value
6 August 2020

This is my fourth Procyon. I love the Platinum EF nibs - so precise. The pens are lightweight, yet solid and won't fatigue your hand while writing. The balance is very nice and the ink flow is marvelous. Writes first time, every time thanks to that Platinum cap. This is a daily carry, work horse pen for me and I can't recommend it highly enough!

Well worth it!

I've owned and have 12 fountain pens. This is the best ever. Forget gold nibs, I get all the glide I want from this Fine nib. The finish is like an eggshell to hold. Not rough and not too smooth. Great for holding and not slipping. Posts well also. For my taste, the line width and flow of the ink is perfect. I write on Mead Cambridge notebooks, with ivory paper. Also use Noodlers Walnut ink. The Slip and Seal cap is the main reason I got this pen and was willing to pay up for it. I have several Platinum Plaisirs that have this type cap, and they are the only fps that can lay around for days, even weeks and just start writing without a fight. If I had to find something wrong with it, it would be the nib creep. But that is not the pen... it's the Noodlers ink. That ... MoreI've owned and have 12 fountain pens. This is the best ever. But with the Procyon, it's only a slight mark on the top of the nib, not wet.
