POC Tectal Hydrogen Helmet Matt White M
Featuring extended protection zones around the temples and the back of the head, the Tectal ensures trail riders stay protected in key risk areas. Thicker zones in the helmet liner enhance protection where it is needed most, yet it's easy to keep the helmet on all day thanks to an innovative ventilation design tested in the wind tunnel, which ensures optimum cooling even at lower speeds.

Gotta start this review with a full disclosure. I really like POC products. They make my favorite shorts, and they make my favorite helmets so my review is a little biased. This helmet and the Race Spin model fit my head better than a glove. The shape of the shell doesn't leave any pressure points on my head and the padding is very comfortable. There's enough space in the helmet to give your head room to breathe too, which is a must on hot Arkansas summer days. My first foray into the world of POC helmets was the Tectal Race Spin version and I wore it so much the padding came unglued from the velcro! And that was after 2 years. It works really well too, knocked my noggin a handful of times now and no concussions to date. I'm on my third helmet now after 5 years of ... MoreGotta start this review with a full disclosure. I ride XC and pound out long miles 12 months out of the year in all weather conditions. This helmet has been iced over, blasted with desert sand, and super saturated in hot 100% humidity sweat. I've taken it to Moab, Colorado, Slovenian, Croatia, and of course all over Arkansas and parts of Kansas and Missouri. It is my go too hands down.If you like to wear glasses or sunglasses like I do then you'll like this helmet as much as I do. They've talored it to accommodate glasses and goggles amd they both fit comfortably!I used to think they were too pricey but after giving them a try...I can't go back.

I've been using MIPS road helmets for years now (and they do work - didn't get a concussion after running head first into a 4" steel pole cemented into the ground at 20 mph), and at first was a little apprehensive about a non-MIPS helmet. But beyond that, this helmet is very comfortable, vents well, good ergonomics, easy to adjust, and lighter than I was expecting. I got mine in white since I live in Tucson, and it does well in the summer sun to not heat up my head excessively like a black/dark helmet would. I really like this helmet for lighter duty riding where a full face isn't needed.

But not with this helmet. My problem is that I can't seem to resist buying helmets. I actually have two Tectal helmets currently. I also have 5 other POC helmets. As well as countless helmets from other brands (all of which are currently collecting dust in a closet). My point of this isn't to break my arm patting myself on the back as an owner of many helmets, but instead to drive home the fact that I've been around the helmet block a few times, and my opinion, there is no better all-around MTB helmet than the Tectal. Enough coverage, but not too much, I always feel like I'm covered in a crash. The visor is just the right length, with enough adjustability to get low when you're racing the sunset (or sunrise), and high enough to get out of the way on the steeps. The quality of the construction is second to none. My first Tectal has been around since the introduction of the model, and it still looks new. And while helmet fit is certainly subjective, the Tectal has enough adjustment to find that perfect fit.To sum up, finding a better helmet than the Tectal is a tall order, especially when one factors in POC's exceptional customer service. The Tectal never disappoints!

Beware of fit, not for everyone. Take into consideration shape of your head. This helmet is for more narrow types of head, so if your head measurments are on the upper part of e.g size M and your head is more roundish, helmet will not fit. If you size up, it might look too bulky. Other than that, it seems like a good helmet.
This is a good helmet but feels the same as others I have bought for a fraction of the cost on AliExpress. However it looks way better, and isn't that the most important part :)I pulled the trigger on Black Friday as it was on sale, so if you can wait, it hurts a little less. One thing POC could do to make this feel like a better value, is include a second set of pads. I think that would cost them about $2 but it would make the consumer feel like they are getting something that will last. One thing POC could do to make this a better helmet, is build in a camera mount to the top. I have a Caribull helmet that has one, and it's brilliant for mounting my night riding light. Most importantly, I have a 59cm head and wasn't sure about the size to buy. I bought the M/L and it's great. It even opens enough to fit a balaclava.
Not perfect as I expected. It's not ok the part of plastic net in the area above the ears is in contact with the ears and on long rides these hurts.. especially if the rider wear glasses. Not happy about that.In addition the matte finishing is very weak. It happened that the helmet was pressed, just for a moment, against a plastic trim in the trunk of my vehicle and little scratch already appears on the new helmet. On the other side it looks great, the colour is amazing and the closure strap is easy to regulate under the chin.
I really like the helmed. It fits perfectly and I was able to send the kortal back which did not fit. Both where really good helmets. The ventilation is nice as well. I especially like the protection of the back of my head since the helmed goes down quite far
Well, I have to write this review, because this helmet simply saved me from serious life threating injury (as doctors said). Because of I sudden unavoidable trail obstacle I hit with quite high speed front wheel turned and hit frame while fork dived I was unable to even stretch my hands and hit the ground with my forehead. Concussion with short memory loss was only I minor repercussions because at A&E I was diagnosed with basilar skull fracture, but I was totally ok with my other health checks. Doctors sum up only I had really great luck and put me in a collar. Well, 3 months after the accident I am totally fine and 100% recovered. I am really grateful to the whole POC team, I really am. You are doing a great job and I surely will stay with you while making my way ... MoreWell, I have to write this review, because this helmet simply saved me from serious life threating injury (as doctors said). Best wishes and stay safe.PS: The helmet did take some damage as the visor crashed and there are some dents in front of a helmet but very barely visible, but of course I will change it for new one, from POC of course :)
My major complaint about helmets these days is that I can't wear my glasses with them. When I'm in an aggressive riding position with this helmet, my neck pushes the back of my helmet forward. That smashes the front of my helmet down onto the top of my glasses, which smashes my glasses into the bridge of my nose. Some helmets have cutouts to accommodate for the ear pieces of glasses. The clearance on this helmet is insufficient. My only other complaints about this helmet is the visor securement and its inability to hold on to my sunglasses when they aren't on my face. I do appreciate the overall fit of the helmet. The ventilation is good as well. I'm not sure that I've ever seen a bike or other piece of clothing that this color would match.
The helmet has a very neat finish and the glossy black fits very well to the encompassing design with large vents. The adjustable visor is long enough to protect from the sun. The adjustment of the helmet is very easily done by a tightening wheel at the back. The tightening loop goes around the head and does not create any compression point. The helmet is perfectly maintained and no floating motion is noticeable. After three outings, I appreciate the ventilation (you still have to wait for the beautiful days) and the pads, roof offering extra protection (spin system) offers a certain comfort that quickly forget the headphones. Only small regret is the chin that could have benefited from a thin protection to complete the comfort contract. The proposed protection systems that I have not been able to test as well as the robust and enveloping design of the hull are reassuring. An expense that is up to the quality of the product and which selbke me a very good investment.
