I never played Gen 4--fell off Pokemon after Gen 3 came out, so this is quite the experience for me.The game runs great and find it challenging as well so far. My only issue is how finicky the controls are in moving--both D-pad and stick. It's hard to explain other than awkward, stiff, tricky, and a bit disorienting. Controls on the gen 3 remake on my 2DS XL didn't have issues of keeping the character in a grid-focus pattern when walking if using the D-pad, but here it seems to get desynced, causing some awkward collisions into walls, trainers and walking around them, and even jumping over a cliff when I only wanted to stand behind it.Of course you got the EXP Share All forever on just like in Sw/Sh... which has been useful but prefer it there was an option to ... I'm loving it. Just wish the controls weren't so... odd.

I love the game. It came earlier then order which I expected from ordering with Walmart. The game play was spectacular and the graphics was great; the game wholesomely gave me nostalgia, I kept being reminded of indigo lead which I had played when I was a kid. So I recommend this game to buy for yourself or a gift for someone. Also if your having a tough time on something in game just watch a youtube video or google it specifically. And trading for Pokémon to finish your Pokédex helps you move quickly in the game but make sure you have one or two sets of teams leveled up for battles. Also a lucky egg helps you earn xp, you can buy the egg at bp or you can find the egg inside the icy cave in the grand underground, and also you can steal the egg in battle from chansey ... So I played through it over the weekend and finished it from start too beating the elite four. Did 7 hours of the underground feature. For a youtube review. Here is my thoughts briefly. The graphics are actually fine , I played it 100% portable , did not offend me one bit. I felt the shared EXP ruined the experience, It made everything way too easy. I was overpowering everything. By the time I got to the elite 4 , my whole team were 28 levels above theirs. I did no grinding , just beating other trainers+ gyms and some wild pokemon fights. I found the second biggest problem was a huge lack of variety in pokemon fights , I felt throughout my whole journey I just kept fighting the same 26 pokemon throughout. I found the second biggest problem was a huge lack of variety in pokemon fights , I felt throughout my whole journey I just kept fighting the same 26 pokemon throughout. The trainers and gym leaders had nothing " rare" or exceptional. It got dull fighting Ponyta for the 63rd time. Team Galactic using the same pokemon also didn't help. The legendary pokemon , I had Palkia since I bought the Pearl version. Was no challenge at all due to overpowered team thanks to exp share and I caught him with an ultra ball at 38% hp. Which didn't feel so legendary to me. Last thing It took me 11 hours 38 mins to finish the game. Ofc that number significantly increases if you want to complete the dex and lvl up multiple pokemon to max lvl. So my verdict was a dissapointing 6/10. The underground is where I had the most fun , the main story was frankly bland and Team Galactic has the be the worst " Evil" team in the franchise.
Exactly as the title says. It's simply just a gen 4 pokemon remake. Honestly, if you're on the fence about it, its an easy skip. The game doesn't really add anything new besides a few revamps to things like the underground. On the other hand, it actually takes AWAY a lot of things like every pokemon that was created beyond gen 4, and moves around the accessibility of things like Gible and the Razor Claw to only be available later in the game in comparisons to the original.
They just copied and pasted pokemon pearl. And by that I mean they copied everything wrong with the games as well. Too many glitches and too many gameplay problems from the original game carried over, such as the abysmal lack of fire types and most of the good pokemon being locked to postgame. It's a shame they didn't implement any of the changes from platinum which made diamond and pearl so much more bearable to play. It also betrays a lack of effort. That being said, it's still a pokemon game and some of the endgame/postgame is actually kind of fun, such as the elite 4, champion and the gym leader rematches. Graphics are also spectacular. Ultimately it could have been a good game but ended up being wasted potential in my opinion. I would only recommend it if you ... This game is vital to the cohesiveness of the Pokemon storyline as there are references to it in the other games in the series. Though it is not required to play any of the other games; it does give more insight into the lore within the Pokemon universe. My kids love everything Pokemon and they read everything out loud to me as they play. Makes reading my book more difficult but the chat bubbles give them more reading practice after their homework is done. If your kid likes or loves Pokemon then this game is a great addition to your gaming library. ^_^
One of the best games the Pokemon company has come out with. Though there's some things not great about it. The pros: feels like a classic styled game. Graphics are decent. There's actual legendary Pokemon, that are part of the storyline. The elite four is a grade up, since when you go back through after beating the game, they're significantly stronger. You can reface the gym leaders over and over again, endlessly. You get exp when fighting the elite four. Lots of extras in the underground to search for. You can get Pokemon from all the way back to gen 1. The Pokedex actually updates unlike sword and shield. So you can see what Pokemon you've caught, and their details. So you can see what Pokemon you've caught, and their details. Versus seeker, and bicycle, and other classics are back in their more common forms.Cons: the Pokemon still look a little too computer generated and less cartoon than before. Meaning a lot less detail in the Pokemon physical appearance themselves. The game is much too easy to beat. The progression rate for the game has not coincided with how the age of the Pokemon audience has grown up. Pokemon from earlier generations have their stats limited and are virtually useless in this game. The latest eeveelution is not included. Cannot move from Pokemon home to/from BDSP. Meaning you can't use your trusty Pokemon from other games. Missing Darkrai, though this could be added later on.Conclusion: this is the closest to Pokemon stadium that they've gotten to in a long time. At least as far as graphics are concerned. There's a storyline to play, and it all connects, unlike sword and shield. If they go with this style of a game for Arceus, then the next game will be worth getting a copy, as well.
i have been an avid pokemon player since the first generation, and have played these games for more than 20 years. i have never seen anything like this. once you get to the pokemon league, their pokemon take no damage and one shot everything on your team. super effective moves are lucky to take half of their hp even if you have 30 levels on them. this makes absolutely 0 sense and needs patched immediately. had an enemy infernape wipe out my entire team after getting "enemy infernape has avoided the attack" (an attack with 100% accuracty) FOUR TIMES IN A ROW. this completely negates the experience share mechanic. how can the game be this hand-holdy in the beginning then this barbarically brutal at the end? theres no justification, i will update my review if this gets ...
