Polaroid B&W SX-70 Instant Film
Classic Camera. Classic Film. The SX-70 was the world’s first truly instant camera, and it comes from a time when things moved a bit more slowly. Slower times, slower film speed. Don’t worry, it still develops as fast as the other films – it’s just a little more laidback about it. The SX-70 works a little differently to other Polaroid cameras. That's why it has its own special SX-70 black-and-white film with a much lower ASA (that's how you measure film speed). Thanks to its greater manual controls and versatility, the SX-70 is super popular with artists, creatives, and people who use the word "aesthetics" a lot. Just remember to always shoot in lots of bright, natural light.

I have several SX-70s which have ground to a halt (meaning the familiar grinding has ceased). Even when still working, they struggled with modern SX-70 film from the Impossible Project---many more duds than keepers. Finding Retrospekt via an internet search, I packed one off for rehab and a conversion to 600 film. I am delighted by the results, by the prompt service and friendly updates from the staff. These 70's era cameras with high-quality optics, if repaired and upgraded, produce superior photos compared to the newest 2-Step. I'll be sending more of my Sx-70s for repair and conversion.

I got my SX-70 converted to shoot 600 film and a full repair. My camera was broken, didn’t close, rattled with loose parts. Sent it in to Retrospekt and couldn’t believe my eyes when I got it back. Speechless. It’s brand new. This camera is by far the best sx-70 I’ve ever owned now. Their work is stellar! It’s quite unbelievable!Highly recommend.

They did a great job cleaning and fixing the broken components in a reasonable time. I was impressed with the detailed repair report, which listed out everything the needed repair or replacement. The replacement leather looks really good and eliminates the old musty leather smell. I also really like the custom packaging it came in.Overall I am very satisfied with the refurbish job I got on my old camera!

I found my SX-70 at a thrift store and was gutted when it didn't work. Thankfully, Retrospekt was there to fix me right up! I worked with their sales department to send in a few of my other Polaroids. Their trade values were unmatched. They helped me apply my trade value to the refurbishment of my SX-70. When I reached out after a few weeks for a status update, they tracked down my camera and got it worked the next day. When it arrived in a beautiful box with shining chrome,I knew the I made the right choice. I loved the repair invoice that showed everything they repaired. They replaced pretty much all of the electronics and tuned it for 600 film. I'm thoroughly pleased and would recommend Retrospekt to anyone who needs an SX-70 refurbished.
This was my great grandmother's camera that she shot with on an almost daily basis. She took photos of the sky and trees and just everyday things including a crime scene at her apartment complex back in the 70s or 80s. It sat in a warehouse for years and years and then sat in my apartment as decoration for a few years after that. I never dreamed it could be up and running again but Retrospekt worked some magic on this camera. Even though I've had it in my possession for many years, this is my first time shooting with an SX-70. The first time pressing the shutter and feeling it come to life again was a great feeling. I also like the color on this way better than my modern polaroid cameras. Super happy with everything. Thank you guys!
This is something new for SX-70 photographers. The tonality is fairly neutral, and the contrast range is excellent. This will broaden the range of possibilities for the SX-70, pure and simple. And it still has that SX-70 look, which is unique. There are 8 exposures in the pack, not 10, so older SX-70 camera exposure counters will be off by two. Easy to deal with.I'm still learning it, but at this point I'm hard-pressed to find any sort of down-side. Just have fun with it!
I've had more consistent results with the B&W film over the colour - similar to most of what I've read online. Given the cost I only use this for special occasions where I can give the photos to other people or travelling. I've had no issues taking this through airport scanners. I agree with others, you'll get the best results with lots of light but I've had good results in shade/indoors when stabilising the camera against a wall.
The product arrived quickly and the film batch was also recently produced (05/21!); keep in mind this film is temperature sensitive and I find the colors to skew magenta on hot days above 85 degrees. I captured some shots with it for a wedding as well. Streaks/artefacts were minimal, and my sister really loved how some of them turned out! Photos included for reference.
I couldn't give this a five star review because the quality of the pictures weren't that great. I was using an old SX 70 land camera, so just know it could be a defect in the camera, but the pictures didn't develop uniformly. But it was a pleasure to use instant film again. And it did power on the camera fine, and everything else worked fine.
This film is a bit on the expensive side (per shot, compared to Instax Wide), but the results are equally good. And it enabled me to use the venerable Polaroid SX-70, still arguably the best instant camera even today.Last time I used my Polaroid SX-70, I have to deal with either expired old film or use a plastic ND filter with 600 film (and cut off some plastic notches). It is great to be back with my old friend SX-70, using native film.Overall tonality and sharpness are pretty comparable to the old SX-70 film. I do need to under-expose by about one stop (using the dial), to get the best overall result.
