Polk Audio Reserve R200 Bookshelf Speakers - Black
Amazing Sound and EleganceWith understated elegance, the Reserve line has a minimalist design with universal appeal. Inheriting Polks flagship transducer array, the R200 produces exceptional sound that rivals competitor speakers that sell for twice the price. Polk Newly Patented X-Port (ETF)Polks newly patented X-Port incorporates an Eigentone Filter (ETF) offering distortion-free, effortless bass. Consisting of a set of closed-pipe absorbers that are specifically tuned to catch and eliminate traditional speaker distortions. X-Port ensures that the upper bass and mid-range are free of port and cabinet resonances for smooth, detailed audio. High Definition Pinnacle Ring Radiator TweeterOver 40 years of tweeter innovation, design, and prototyping has led to the development of the new 1 high definition Pinnacle ring radiator tweeter. Developed by Polk Audio, it delivers ultra-clear, crisp highs without unwanted coloration or distortions. The Pinnacle tweeter features a finely tuned waveguide that dramatically improves the dispersion of high-frequency energy ensuring a broad sweet spot while the critically damped rear-chamber helps defeat any unwanted resonances. Hi-Res certified, the Pinnacle Tweeter is designed for todays two-channel music listening as well as multi-channel 3D audio found in movies, sports, and video game soundtracks. 6.5 Turbine ConePolk developed the Turbine cone specifically for their flagship products to ensure the natural reproduction of the mid-range, to which human ears are particularly sensitive. The Turbine cone combines Polks proprietary foam core and molded Turbine geometry which dramatically increases stiffness and damping, without adding mass. You will hear every detail and experience a smooth, detailed mid-range and effortless bass.

Excellent under-$1000 speaker that really plays like really expensive speaker. Feels like you are in a specialized room with a 3 dimensional sound, rich soundstage equivalent or better than the KEF's I've been enjoying for over 3 years now. For what it retails, I am sure reviewers will find holes and limitations, but for a wanna be audiophile like me, its the best I have heard till now and I have compared it against the very best when I attend demos at magnolia/ Best Buy.

I love them. Excellent soundstage, almost 3D, with nearly surround-sound width and going deep into the wall behind the speakers. For ex, the drums on Deftone's Koi No Yokan (my test album) have real presence in the room, but are clearly behind the front-line instruments and vocals, giving the performance almost concert hall proportions. The tonal balance is excellent, with full solid bass belying the speaker size. In this regard especially, I prefer these to B&W 606 which this pair replaced. The cabinet and binding posts are gorgeous. Highly recommended!

Great sound for the money and the size. These speakers are very balanced in their sound and are god for all types of music, from EDM to Rock and Blues, Country, and Classical. Imaging and soundstage are excellent, both wide and deep, with individual instrument placement clearly identifiable. Bass extension is good, although you need to provide space between the speaker and back wall, or they can get boomy. Sound is punchy. The tweeters are fairly directional so best to get stands that keep the tweeters at ear-level and toe-in, if necessary to provide the "sweet spot." I have mine on 26" stands that provide a 37" tweeter height and toe-in to aim at my preferred seating location. I have these in a mid-size listening room and run them with 50 watts per channel, which is plenty of power. Volume is set at 50% for normal listening and it's plenty loud. Fortunately, I purchased the speakers direct from Polk, on sale, plus an additional 10% for joining the email list; about 600USD for the pair. Even at full retail thet are a great buy. I don't see how the Legend Series could be much better, at almost twice the price, although the cabinetry does look like an upgrade and can be bi-amped. The R200s are vinyl wrapped, with magnetic grills. For the room I have them in that's enough for me. Great speakers, great sound, great price. Get these!
I purchased the R200 bookshelf speakers 1 month ago for a fantastic, limited time discounted price on the Polk Audio forum page.I've utilized different amplifiers from 50wpc to 275wpc in various room setups and they do not disappoint.Low volume/high volume, they reproduce clean, clear detailed sound.I am hard pressed to calls these "bookshelf" speakers as the imaging, depth and staging of the sound field is excellent.Thank you, Polk Audio for a wonderful product.
I enjoyed your ES20 speakers for 32 days and decided to upgraded to the R200. Now that I have had the ES20 I actually miss aspects of that speaker. The R200 sounds very realistic and accurate which is what I wanted. I bought the R200 so that I have a speaker that can grow with me down the road as I upgrade my powerful class-D amp to a class-A or class-AB amp. R200 has a wide soundstage; the ES20 had a nice atmospheric ambiance effect to the sound that I grew to enjoy alot. I think the R200 will serve me the best as I upgrade my amp later years down the road since the R200 is a more powerful speaker that I can grow into and unlock its full benefits.I'm using a Topping ensamble with Topping PA3 amp. Furman PST-8D power conditioner. Speaker cables with bannana plugs. ... MoreI enjoyed your ES20 speakers for 32 days and decided to upgraded to the R200. I took advantage of a generous Polk discount program to acquire a pair of the R-200 bookshelf loudspeakers in "brown" (as Polk refers to the finish) vinyl. The order was processed quickly and the shipping was both free and fast! Packaging was excellent and the speakers were in excellent new condition when unpacked. Speakers are attractive and nicely made and finished for their price point. Sound quality proved to be smooth, accurate, and extended. They are quite capable of filling a room with dynamic sound when paired with empathetic amplification. Bass is good by any reasonable standard and very good given the small woofer and relatively small cabinet volume. Behavior of the rear port is unobtrusive. Based on these loudspeakers, Polk Audio is, finally, back in the game as a brand providing high value (stereo, in my case) audio performance in a very reasonably priced package with the Reserve Series in general and with the R200 in particular. Well worthy of evaluation, especially if discounted, with free shipping, and with Polk's 60 day in-home evaluation policy. 4 star at list price; 5 star with discount.
Great set of speakers. They have a fairly neutral sound which I love. Nothing is pushed forward or dropped out, mostly flat frequency response. I tried them with 3 different sources. A low tier AVR, which I think didn't have enough power to bring out the Polk's full capabilities. I would go with a more sensitive speaker if you will be using a cheaper AVR. I then tried out 2 different power amps, an older B&K that pushes 185 watts at 4 ohms and an Emotiva with 300 watts at 4 ohms. The Polk's never lost control or clarity at very loud volumes. Very impressive. Honestly I think they sound their best at high volumes. They are a full size "bookshelf" speaker. Take note of their dimensions if buying unseen. I put them on a set of 26inch Edifier stands I also bought from ... MoreGreat set of speakers. They have a fairly neutral sound which I love. I put them on a set of 26inch Edifier stands I also bought from Best buy. The stands were pleasently solid/nicer than I thought they would be. I did turn the bottom base around so I didn't have to see the word Edifier on the front. So overall they are a good size, and even though their "special" port helps I do pull them out a little bit extra off the wall for critical listening. They have a very solid build..no resonance I can hear. They could be used without a sub, especially at close or nearfield listening, but with a good sub it is definitely better and more engaging, especially in a larger room. At this price it is hard to find a solid, nice sounding neutral speaker. Others recommended were the Elac Debut Reference or Revel bookshelves for a little more money. If you are patient these Polk's go on sale few times a year for an even better deal...that's what I did. You will never know if you like a speaker til you hear it in your system in your home. Room acoustics make such a huge deal of what and how we hear something. If you are looking for a less subjective review on these speakers I strongly suggest going online and typing Audio Science Review Polk R200, there you can see a Spinorama and measurements review...to see how this speaker showed from a technical side.
Superb sound for the price. I tried these out vs the ls50 metas and while the mids are slightly weaker, the highs are on par and sound better in some ways. The metas got slightly harsh at times(although at times also more detailed sounding) but these sound in-between a soft dome tweeter and a ribbon tweeter(doesnt have the harshness i hear in ribbon tweeters at certain frequencies though slightly less detailed). These are less than half of the price of the metas! The finish is okay but nowhere near the metas. They look good but you can tell this is how the cost was cut to meet the price. The bass is not super strong but clean and definitely better than the metas. Sound stage is great. The biggest weakness of these: speaker placement. They are really picky about how ... Horizontal dispersion is not great. It sounds different pretty quickly when you move out of the ideal sitting position. Vertical dispersion is not as bad; you can have the tweeter slightly below or above ear level but still not as good as most others I've heard.Overall, 4.5 (5 if based off of value for the price)
a stunning performer for the price. Heard these demoed for me and shortly afterwards had to attain the,. clear but controlled highs, bass response is deep and refined for any speaker, much less a bookshelf. They have a soundstage that fills a room to a shocking degree for a bookshelf. At this price point it is a no brainer. I'd blindly put these up against bookshelves over a grand without hesitating. Polk was NOT playing around when they came out with this. Appearance is subdued but elegant.nothing flashy....single set of binding posts means no biamping but seriously, who cares....if that keeps the price down to get a gem like this out to market then so be it. Biamping is overrated anyway, ESPECIALLY for a bookshelf., ......this speaker was clearly ALL about ... Morea stunning performer for the price.
