Pro-Ject Tube Box S2 Phono Preamplifier - Black
Tube Box S2 is our very first product to feature a fully discreet circuit design without using any operational amplifiers (OpAmps). It also is the first product to come with replaceable tubes for tube rolling and sound-shaping. This gives the customer many options to pick from and alter the sound signature to his preference. Tube Box S2 will give a full and relaxed laid back sound with lush mids, just like you would expect it from a much bigger high end tube phono pre-amplifier. It offers support for both MM and MC cartridges and comes with many gain settings to be switched on the front panel. Five variable input impedance settings are available to adjust to any MM cartridge, the 47k ohms input impedance setting is fixed and suited for high output MC cartridges. The aluminium/metal casing is adapted to our DS2 line in looks and protects against vibrations and electromagnetic interferences for superior sound. A true high end solution in a much smaller package!

The Project Tube Box S is the best phono preamp I've ever heard, and I've been through quite a few over the years, some priced way above the Project. The best I can say for it is how natural the music sounds, but also with great depth and transparency. Highly recommended.

I bought this as a bit of an experiment really. I had a built in phono stage in my amp already and Im quite new to vinyl, so wondered if it would be worth it.? It has definitely mad an audible difference for the better. Every time I listen to records now they just seem to get better and better. Its definitely worth it, give it a go.
Excellent sound ! Because this is paired with a Sansui 5000 A , that has a great pre-amp , I run the phono in auxiliary mode. This Amp section was never used with this receiver .and the sound is just unbelievablely clean!
Having many gain options easily accessible on the front has allowed me to keep my high-output Denon MC cart longer. The cart was a little too quiet for a MM gain setting & distorted with a MC setting. I took the money I was going to spend on a replacement cart & bought the Pro-ject Tube Box 2 instead. It can do a gain setting of 50 or 53 but I leave it on 50. Only thing I'd like to see is an option to change the LED color. Gave my albums mids. Johnny Cash's voice rumbles like a nearby tank up the arms on my chair & through my bones. Stock tubes seem fine. Clear, noise free. This won't hiss like your guitar amp. Silence until the needle drop. Would by again.

Had my doubts about this preamp and the price tag is on the higher side - but I will say it did not disappoint!!! Beautiful tube sound, details I had never head before in my music were revealed. I ordered this on 4/9/23 for $499. I was shipped the Pro-Ject Phono Box instead. The Phono Box cost $129.Do you see the problem here?
