Great sized charcoal, not too big, not too small. I'd imagine that it is purposely cut to this size as it accommodates the chimney fire starter perfectly. I have an infrared thermometer gun and I measured the temp at the charcoal (and grates) at 450 - 500 celsius. Will be buying again.

Barbecues Galore sent me a bag of this charcoal to try out...To start, a lot of people keep their charcoal in the bag itself and don’t dump it all into bins to use the charcoal from.I kept my charcoal in the bag and found that the bag did not leak from ash bits and stood up by itself. It was all packed beautifully with all the pieces cut at around the same length, in doing that the bag was able to stand up by itself with very little chance of it falling over and making a mess. Once opening the bag I found a little zip lock bag inside containing a set of clear gloves to use when handing the charcoal. It’s little things like this that make a huge difference in the overall experience with their product. Now onto the charcoal, I tried it out through many different ... MoreBarbecues Galore sent me a bag of this charcoal to try out...To start, a lot of people keep their charcoal in the bag itself and don’t dump it all into bins to use the charcoal from.I kept my charcoal in the bag and found that the bag did not leak from ash bits and stood up by itself. I cooked everything from wagyu beef brisket to pork ribs, hot and fast pizza, even medium cooks for a butterflied chicken... Heck I even smoked and baked a cornbread with it and couldn’t fault it one bit! It holds heat extremely well and burns consistently. That comes back to all the bits of lump cut the same size. Give or take the girth of the lump it makes it very easy to know how much you need for what cook.Once I complete my cook I close the vents and shut it off, when the next day comes around I shuffle the used charcoal around, re-light it with a few more bits of lump and its good for another cook! The charcoal doesn’t leave any nasty taste or smell too, no matter how many times you use it. Safe to say I am very pleased with this charcoal, I would highly recommend it and deem it as the best charcoal I have used.I’ve attached a couple of photos below of some of the cooks where I’ve used this charcoal. It’s fantastic to use, I’ll definitely be using this from now on. I think even the Kamado Joe Big Block could learn a lot from this product!

The Pro Smoke 15kg Lump Charcoal was an excellent product. It was easy to light, burnt hot and lasted ages - it is extremely disappointing that BBQ’s Galore is not stocking this product anymore. The 18kg Pro Smoke bag which is still available does not contain the same lump charcoal that the 15kg did (which is really strange) - the 18kg is extremely difficult to light and does not burn as hot. It would be great if BBQ’s Galore brought back the 15kg pack with the same type charcoal that we loved.

I used this on my Kamado Joe. Really good for high heat. No problems getting to 350+ degrees for pizzas (I struggled getting high heat with the Kamado Joe Big Block charcoal). No problems at the other end of the scale either (eg a brisket for 12hrs at 120degrees). I thought the Kamado Joe big block charcoal produced a better tasting product at the lower temps.I have bought this charcoal again
I've tried Bunnings charcoal, Everdure (terrible), and B&B. This is by far the most consistent burning lump charcoal. The 18Kg provides incredible value in comparison to what is available in Australia. I genuinely love this product, and don't see myself switching unless I have to. I have a very cheap off-set but the size consistency and burn times make maintaining temperatures really easy.
Ive had 2 bags of 18kg charcoal. First bag was brilliant a good mix of large to medium chunks. Second bag is quite the opposite most of the timber ive used so far has been around 40mm diameter. Will buy another bag to see how it compares. Apart from that no issues in my KJ getting to 300+ for pizza or 12-14 L&S cooks.
Don’t waste your money. Bag says premium lump charcoal. Extra large lumps, restaurant grade quality. What you actually get is tiny fragments and dust. You will struggle to find many pieces that won’t fall through the grates. It’s fraud.
This is the worst charcoal I have ever seen. Not sure why bbqs galore would sell this. It says premium coal and lumps on the front of the bag. What I got was coal no bigger than a golf ball. I thought I would get to some bigger pieces as I made my way through the bag. Wrong. Small pieces and dust is what I found. I had to buy some head beads to counter act the coal as the coal burnt out. What a waste of money. I wish I could get a refund or replacement. I took pictures as evidence.
This is the good stuff! I previously used another product during the past 10 years, and when it was discontinued, I had to find something to replace it. Forget that certain celebrity chef brand, this is 10x better with nice big chunks. Proper lump charcoal made from hardwood. It burns hot with minimal ash, so little in fact, that there is no ash falling through to the tray of our Kamado Joe.
Is there a way to give this no stars? Not happy with this at all. Struggle to get hot, they’re only small chips of charcoal and burns very fast. Had to add more fuel to my kamado half way through my 6 hour cook. Thought a full basket would of easily done this. Don’t waste your money or time. Very very ashy, better off using heat beads, get less ash that way
