This is my second fiddle purchase from AMS in less than a year. And let me say they don't disapoint. This PRS SE Custom 24 is one nice guitar. I have wanted a PRS for many years but didn't want to spend core money. After reading many reviews and watching the factory tour in Indonesia I was sold. The quality of this guitar is on point with a MIM guitar I bought last year. As to quality I am very impressed. The tone and clarity are ery nice. Not quite the same as the US made but very close. The only thing I did change per some of the other reviews were the tuners. I also highly recommend the PRS ones AMS sells. Literally drop in replacements. I do plan on upgrading the trem to some brass parts like the American made model. But all very simple upgrades bring this so ... MoreThis is my second fiddle purchase from AMS in less than a year. Beautiful aesthetically especially the green paint color and the neck inlays are top notch as is the gig bag. now the elephant in the room the really bad pickups.it keeps it from being a 5 star guitar.Even with two separate toggle switches these pups are underwater sounding. The clean tones are ok but I just cant get a good crisp cutting sound out of these distorted and it's a bummer. My advise to PRS is take the extra money spent on the fancy gig bag, make a lesser quality bag and spend the money on putting better pickups in these guitars. It would make this guitar something a pro would use instead of what it is- a beginner/intermediate player guitar. The wow factor when you open the gig bag is undeniable, but when you plug it in to play it's a big let ... MoreBeautiful aesthetically especially the green paint color and the neck inlays are top notch as is the gig bag. now the elephant in the room the really bad pickups.it keeps it from being a 5 star guitar.Even with two separate toggle switches these pups are underwater sounding. The wow factor when you open the gig bag is undeniable, but when you plug it in to play it's a big let down.If you change out the pickup with a dimarzio super distortion in the bridge you got a killer sounding guitar but having two toggle switches might cause some problems if you dont know what your doing with the electronics. This keeps this from being 5 stars and but it may be the best deal I have seen for what you get for the money, it's just the poor sounding pickups that is a downer.

I was very impressed with my new PRS SE Custom The workmanship was top notch, and the mahogany that was natural was just gorgeous! The Finish on top stunning beautiful blue flametop! I dont like Gibson style speed knobs, I replaced mine with Ernie Ball black knurled tele style knobs, they look fabulous on this guitar and is much easier to use the push/pull coil split knob now. The guitar was setup pretty good, but the action was to high for my taste, I lowered the action now she flies. And most importantly like so many other reviews and I can confirm the tuners that come on this guitar are useless trash. Bought the PRS locking tuners for 100$ which btw have brass posts!!! more sustain!!! and installed now we have a total awesome top notch PRS that didnt cost 4 to ... MoreI was very impressed with my new PRS SE Custom The workmanship was top notch, and the mahogany that was natural was just gorgeous! This is the first prs I’ve ever owned and I have to say if this is the quality prs puts out for their SE line, I can only imagine how good the core models are! I mostly play heavier stuff (djent, deathcore, death metal, etc.) and with the right eq settings these pickups do just fine. But they really shine with lower gain and crunch scenarios. I love playing jazz or doing some chicken pickin with the multiple sounds you can get out of the wiring setup. Superrrr versatile, very well built for an Indo guitar. My only complaint is the glossy neck, since I mostly play leads. But that can be solved fairly easily. It’s an easy guitar to play and it plays like butter. Stays in good tune even with whammy abuse. No sharp fret ends, fret buzz, high action, bad intonation etc. ... MoreThis is the first prs I’ve ever owned and I have to say if this is the quality prs puts out for their SE line, I can only imagine how good the core models are! Other than that for it’s price point it’s amazing!
I had always heard that PRS makes an exceptional product, so I took the plunge and bought myself one. Having had several instruments previously that were around the same price-point, I had tempered my expectations to be a middle of the road guitar that would get the job done. What I received was a more than solid electric that surprised me at every turn. The craftsmanship is superb; from the fret dressings to the electronics on board, every aspect was perfect. I hooked it up to my usual sound board and was impressed by the responsiveness of the pickups, the comfort of the neck, and it only got better as I elaborated the tone through effects. This guitar rips. Out of curiosity I plugged it into a 25w Fender Rumble along with my Wampler Ratsbane, and the clarity of tone and sheer power from the pick ups knocked my socks off. Suddenly in that small amp I had something special and immediately moved it to my recording rig. The flexibility of tone and distinct voicing lended itself to creating new soundscapes. My favorite feature is hard to describe. The neck feels smooth and fast, the weight ratio of the neck and body feel good, and the electronics are more than serviceable.
This is a great guitar. I've owned it for a year. If you're want a PRS for under $1000, this is what you're looking for. The craftsmanship of the Custom 24 is outstanding. The frets are perfect, the guitar itself is very ergonomic and comfortable, the fret tangs are under the fretboard so you are almost never going to get any sharp edges. The fretboard is rounded which is a great attention to detail and very appreciated. The body of the guitar has a natural wood binding peaking through and looks great. The playability is very strong. The neck is a wide C shape and is comfortable, it's fast but not shredder fast. The guitar has a very nice pronounced low end to it. I have had two issues which are fixable but still issues nonetheless. The first one is tuning. You may ... MoreThis is a great guitar. I've owned it for a year. The neck is a wide C shape and is comfortable, it's fast but not shredder fast. The guitar has a very nice pronounced low end to it. I have had two issues which are fixable but still issues nonetheless. The first one is tuning. You may not have problems if you're prone to sticking to one tuning, but if you're like me and like to change tunings a lot you may have to fight it for a good 15 minutes before it settles in. It's to the point where I won't even take it to rehearsal because I don't want to make the guys wait while I change tunings. I plan on getting locking tuners soon and hoping that'll fix it. The other issue I have is the pickup. The neck pickup I don't mind but the bridge pickup is just awful to my ear. It's very muddy and sometimes I can't play it for more than 20 minutes with it. That's another upgrade on the list. Other than those two the guitar is an incredible instrument. It comes with a gig bag which has thick padding and a rugged outside stitching. It also has a big pocket and thick comfortable shoulder straps as well as a hook hiding in the back pocket if you want to hang it up anywhere. I usually like getting hardshell cases for my guitars when I can but I don't think I'll need one here. Overall if you stay in one tuning or don't change often and you had a chance to play one at a store and don't mind the pickups I'd say go for it. Like I said the pickup just isn't my taste and someone else might like it for their style. The factory in Indonesia did a great job and PRS in general is the gold standard of QC in the guitar world.
I was deciding between this and a MIM Strat. I swear that the Guitar Center staff were getting sick of me coming in to compare the 2, which I did for about 2-3 weeks. In the end it came down to how it felt when I played open cords and how it made me feel (you gotta love what you play).I keep the guitar in plain sight in my home and it just beckons me to grab it and start practicing/noodling every day. It still makes me smile when I grab it off the wall. The craftsmanship is excellent. Clean or distorted, it sounds amazing through my Katana-50. The action is set up nice and low without any fret buzzing and it stays in tune for days! This is probably the best guitar in the $700-800 range (ask for a discount!). If you pay a little more than a typical "beginner's" guitar, you will get something that will make you want to play, is easy to play, and just looks awesome.
OK, so I've only been playing electric guitar for a couple of years. Bought a Squire Strat to get started and this PRS is a birthday treat to myself. I love it. Feels nicely setup, and easy to play. Strings are a bit tenser than my strat (I guess because of the longer scale length?), but the sound is such a massive improvement, with a wide range of tones.I also love the limited controls - one tone, one volume, 3-position pick-up switch and single coil-split is plenty for me.I went to Anderton's expecting to buy the "Faded Blue Burst" finish. I'm so glad I was able to go in and see it against the "Black Gold Burst" which happened to be on display as I much preferred the latter - and it was ÂŁ100 cheaper at the time :^)
I had my Epiphone Les Paul for a long time, and figured I would upgrade to a Gibson when one of the Les Pauls went on sale recently. Before I walked away with it though, I played the PRS SE Custom 24. I loved the intuitiveness and responsiveness of the controls, the versatility of the tones you could get with the coil-splitting feature, and the overall comfort and playability (not to mention that the price was better for the PRS).But the Gibson was on sale. Les Pauls were what I knew, and I thought it was a better value and brand name, so I went with the LP.About a month later, I exchanged the Gibson for the PRS. And of course, shout out to PRS and the SE line for making high-quality stuff at great prices!
