Although I was skeptical to begin with about playing this and how different it would be to Odyssey, I admit after a reasonable amount of play time I've come to appreciate certain things about the game. These for me personally are: The Stunning Visuals - They are very intone with the viking theme and feel of the game and are just generally amazing. In some ways they even sort of Out do Odyssey, partly because they look a bit more polished, and partly because they have a more 'natural' feel to them. Viking Culture - this aspect in my opinion is done more or less flawlessly, from the look of the characters down to the very small, but entertaining dialogue moments while sailing to raid locations. It very much feels like you're playing an episode of Vikings, and I think that definitely says something. I also love how you can use the some of the resources you raid to build up your own settlement, which adds to the authentic viking experience. The Combat - Although not as varied and stylized as Odyssey, it still manages to be fun and engaging thanks to it's gritty realism (I swear every time I see a head go flying I have moment of sheer adulterated bliss). The Length - I can already tell this is going to be a much shorter game, and for someone who juggles demanding full-time work with a two year old, that is indeed a Godsend. 170+ hours is waaay to long to spend on one game that doesn't hold up the balance with story and characters (Odyssey) All in all, if you've been curious about giving this a try, I say go for it! P.S. If you do decide to go for the extra stuff (which you will, trust me), go for the mysteries, as there is a great variety of things to do and most of them are reasonably short and sweet 10/10

The main story can tend to drag a bit with a lot of content you are forced to consisting of “weakening enemy forces”. This typically consists of burning supplies and taking out camps spread across certain regions. That can feel like a chore, but the main story is quite compelling, even giving you plenty of choices to customize your Eivor. There is also a huge improvement in the loot system from Origins and Odyssey. You are no longer showered with thousands of pieces of useless loot to dismantle, every weapon and piece of armor has a very specific purpose, stat, and look behind it. As such, you may play a large portion of the early game in the same type of armor, which may annoy some people. Fortunately, you can purchase armor location maps from your homestead cartographer not too far into the game which will help you customize the look and play of Eivor.Fantastic game overall, and I’ve absolutely enjoyed my time in this world. Story can derail a bit and go to some crazy places, but it’s a journey worth sticking with.

If you are looking for a game with a structured story line that allows you to play the part of a clear protagonist then look past AC (Assassins Creed) Valhalla as you will not find that here. If you like the idea of your primary requirement for progression being to raid, kill and pillage innocent villages and monasteries and burn down the cottages of suffering villagers then by all means this is the game for you! In addition you also get the choice to have an affair with the wife of your best friend and adopted brother. Super! It really makes you feel like a genuine hero... =-/ I gave up hope on the AC series after AC Unity. I tried to give the series a chance again with Odyssey and Origins but was unimpressed. That being said, I liked the story of both WAY better then Valhalla. Despite my recent negative experiences, after seeing awesome commercials and reading rave reviews I had a renewed hope for the series and decided to get the game. After 50 hours playing the game waiting for things to make sense, provide a sense of purpose and for the story-line to evolve into one where the main character Eivor becomes a good guy I came to the realization that was never going to happen and here I am writing this review. The final straw for me was when a Viking comrade (Ivarr) tricks you (Eivor) into attacking an opposing king (After a Peace deal was made) by framing that opposing king for the murder of a mutual friend . Ok, whatever, I can deal with that you gotta come up with creative reasons to fight big battles... After all, its just a game. The part that absolutely disgusted me is after the battle you are forced to standby while Ivarr tortures the King (who had previously bested Ivarr in a battle and let Ivarr go instead of killing him). No matter what you decide for in game choices (1 - Let the king go, 2 - Let him die from his wounds, 3 - Ok Ivarr do w/e it is you want to do to the king) the game ends up with you watching Ivarr torture a guy for something he didn't do. Furthermore, Ivarr is the one who framed the king and actually killed the mutual friend. If your like me your wondering what the point of in game choices are if they don't effect the outcome. Clearly the choices are superficial. That's lame... Final note - If you may find yourself offended by consistent smears, comments and attacks on the christian faith throughout this game I would advise you to avoid AC Valhalla. Thank you UBISoft for taking a fantastic series that began with Altaïr and Ezio dragging it through the mud while simultaneously riding its coat tails. The quality Story, Cinematic Cut Scenes, Fighting Style, Stealth requirement and Character/Plot development I came to know and love in the AC series seen in Altaïr and Ezio's time is gone and clearly it is not coming back.

I am a longtime fan of the assassin's creed series. I remember getting my brother to buy me the first one back in 2007. I have not played all of them but I've loved every single one I played. My list of these games includes: AC1, AC2, AC Brotherhood, AC3, AC IV Black Flag, AC Rogue, AC Unity, AC Origins, and this being the latest addition to my list. Never got the chance to play Odyssey unfortunately. The mechanics began to change in later Assassin's creeds beginning with Origins. A bit different but didn't take much to get used to, actually felt like it added a bit more challenge. A bit different but didn't take much to get used to, actually felt like it added a bit more challenge. Valhalla brings you to the age of the Vikings, one of the most violent cultures ever to be known in history. We see many parts of Norway as well as England. In Norway you see the Vikings way of life from their acts of pillaging to their customs and traditions. In England parts you start to see the very real, at that time in history, power struggle between the Danes(Vikings) and the Saxons(British). You will meet the sons of Ragnar Lothbrok which if you see the show or know the history then you'll know he is the very first Viking that set out for England and settled there. The world is massive and there are many arcs pertaining to the different arcs of England and Norway that you will explore. There is even a little treat Arc dealing with the Era of the Gods, won't say more than that. This is not a game you will beat in one day. If you play only a few hours a day it's well worth the money. Although, like myself, if it's hard to put down the controller when playing an AC game then you may be able to beat it in less than a week :D. Seriously though its a good game. Some negatives is that there are some bugs and glitches but I experienced nothing that prevented me from playing the game further and I'm sure any bugs will get patched as the game is fairly new. Again I really enjoyed this game and look forward to see what they have in store for the next one.

Great Game
9 September 2024

I got this game for my husband's birthday and he has really loved it. He likes the ability to swap and upgrade weapons and armor, the crafting system, the skill tree, and the ability to raid as a Viking. The only thing he says he doesn't like is the control scheming. It deviates from previous Assassin's Creed games so it makes it a little bit confusing. You have to relearn how to plan an AC game with new controls and he doesn't like that. Overall though he is very happy with this game and would recommend it to others. I'm happy that he liked the gift I got him as well. We would both recommend this item to others!

The Gameplay is beyond anything and any other game in 2007, the combat is strong, well built and plays out smoothly without any bugs or issues. The parkour when running and jumping from rooftop to rooftop is really good and revolutionary for a game made in 2007. The parkour is swift and feels so smooth and relaxed when playing. The game's controls aren't that good and could do with some improvement and sharpening up. The Characters you meet in all the cities and places you come across are phenomenal and breath taking, real accuracy and care has been taken to ensure the best possible experience is imminent in the game. Assassin's Creed's Protagonist Altaïr Ibn-LaʼAhad is a gentle and focused main character and is perfect for this game. The game's music and soundtrack is decent and really emphasises on the detail and tone this game has set and achieved. Assassin's Creed is full of beaming features and incredible aspects and just seems to be a clearly superb game to play no matter what. Most of the missions are very repetitive which is a problem and there isn't much to do at all when the game and story is finished. The Graphics on the other hand are incredible and push your computer to the limits, it's no lie, as the first ever entry to the Assassin's Creed Series, this game has set the best possible foundation for it to grow and develop and fully flourish.Assassin's Creed (2007) might have it's problems but will honestly go down as Top 50 Best Games of all time without a doubt. The Environment, Characters, Gameplay, almost everything about this game shines bright and makes it a pure success in it's year, 2007, and still now. You need to play this game, never mind it's series.

Happy with the online purchase and pick up. The 4 stars is for the gane itself. Its supposedly the best assassins creed game but being an OG assassins creed player, this is no way better than the games with Ezio. Its not the worst, but definitely not the best. The game concentrates on side missions way too much. The first time I played it I finished about 40% of the main-story campaign. At that point I had to grind for multiple play sessions just to gain level so I can continue doing the campaign and harder side quests.

All while traversing the diverse and amazingly beautiful landscapes of Norway and England. To date some of the absolute best graphics and physics I’ve seen in a game. Which won’t surprise AC fans, as this franchise has always dominated game engine graphics. Here’s what you may not like; some very mature themes like, drinking contests, use of hallucinating shrooms to solve in game puzzles and nudity. I find video game nudity silly and turned it off in game settings mode. The cinema cut scenes get boring, wish there was a tomb raider action button or a skip button as I just want to play the game; not watch a video game movie. As in other AC games you will find yourself burning countless hours completing minor tasks that aren’t exactly relevant to the main mission. Gold hunting, searching for books of knowledge, animal hunting, fishing, synchronizing new maps and simply traveling the vast open landscape for whatever new adventures lye ahead. Example, I literally thought my game or Xbox was glitching in an area on the London map, only to find the glitch was intentionally done and that it was a broken data sync with the Animus System that needed repair. I was blown away by this ingenious in-game surprise puzzle, which I originally thought was a game glitch. Some may find these in game nuggets annoying.I have over 10 hours in the game and only scratched the surface. I’m excited to keep playing for other surprises that lay ahead. I read online if you complete minimal side quests and go for main mission, the game is taking 30-40 hours to complete. I’ve taken my time exploring the mind blowing worlds and side quests. So I expect this will take me a minimum 100hrs, but just in time for COVID quarantine-round 2. Escape our world for a bit to play in Ubisoft’s masterpiece of another brilliantly done Assassin’s Creed.A well done adventurousness game!!! 5 Stars
