Cushion To Support My Return To Running

I love these shoes! I received them just as I was coming off of a break from running due to health issues. I was testing them as I returned to a regular running plan.-At first glance, the color is fantastic. I love the look and design of the shoe. So aesthetically pleasing.-First Impressions: When wearing them for the first time, the individual heel cushions were very noticeable - they weren't uncomfortable, just felt different than all my other shoes. After wearing them for many, many runs, I got used to the difference. My first impressions were that they were super "cushiony" and it felt like walking on clouds! Otherwise, I think they are true to size.-Feel: I've worn these shoes for runs, hikes, walking, sprinting, and just around the house to get a good feel for them. They are great for any type of road running. Very responsive and super comfortable! The cushion feels great for my aging joints and makes running feel easy as I get back into the sport. I don't recommend them for trails (I mean, they are road shoes) because the sole is not grippy enough for rocks and dirt. I also didn't feel quite as stable on very cambered road sides due to the height of the cushion.-Additional: I usually wear toward stability shoes and I don't think these are necessarily stability shoes but I didn't have any issues!!! Very happy with that!-Overall: a great road running and training shoe! I highly recommend them.

The shoe ticks a lot of boxes for a 'super' trainer/race shoe. Excellent midsole with the Nitro foam. Definitely on the softer side. Great outsole - grippy and durable. The plate is not very noticeable. Upper is good except for the heel counter which is the only major failing of this shoe. It can cause blisters so you need to be wary pre-run to take some preventive measures if you are susceptible to this. Otherwise, fit is good. I'm a mens US 9.5 but bought the womens US 11 so it was a bit snug. If you have wide feet it would be too snug. I would have liked just a little bit more toe room but for the main it was still an okay fit. At an incredible sale price it was an absolute bargain but I would have been disappointed had I paid full price. Was so excited for this model of the Deviate to come to the US, as I live in Maine and really need an option for wet days. However, I was bummed to find the sizing feels significantly different from my regular Deviate Nitro and Deviate Nitro Elite, much looser (bigger?) overall, especially in the toe box. Perhaps the different material was given more internal volume? I'm not sure how but I have to cinch the laces so tight to get the heel not to slip (which I have no problem with in the other two models) and the forefoot feels so sloppy. I wear a size 7.5 womens or 38 EU in the other two Deviates, and if I hadn't already run in the pair I received I would exchange them for a 7/37.5 - I'll try wearing a thicker sock and appreciate I probably won't be wearing these in ... MoreWas so excited for this model of the Deviate to come to the US, as I live in Maine and really need an option for wet days. For reference I wear a size 38 EU in Salomon (which is a 6.5 wms), and am pretty consistently a size 38 EU in running shoes and size 7 wms casual shoes.

Great shoe for under 5k runs
26 June 2022

I bought these shoe recently over sale and was pretty impressed by the lightness of the shoe. This is a great shoe for 5k and under runs or brisk walk. The main challenge i found over 5k runs is i got burning toes and feet sensation :(. The shoes are slightly narrow for someone with wide feet and they dont make or didn't have wider versions when I bought themI own Hoka Bondi 7, Asics Racer, Brooks glycerin as alternate running pairs and I have never encountered similar issue for long distance runs.Having said that, this is however a great shoe for under 5k runs. The shoe is very well cushioned and has a springy/bouncy light feeling during runs making it a pleasant and easy run.

Has Puma returned to the running scene?!
24 June 2022

Comfy, Springy, fast, responsive & grippy, yet also a bit heavy, clunky, stiff & has some heel rubbing. A real mixed bag this one :)A good attempt by Puma & for $68 I had to try them, I mean molly seidel (3rd place in the Olympic marathon) has been wearing them & the newer version, the deviate elites.first carbon plated shoe I have worn, had to see what all the hype was about but didn't want to pay $300 for overrated Nike things & not like them. I loved doing track sessions in the Puma Mobium Elite until production stopped. Puma disappeared from the running radar for a while but they've made a modest comeback with this shoe, needs improvement but a good start. The shoe feels comfortable straight away, fits nice & snug, like it was made specifically for you! Puma disappeared from the running radar for a while but they've made a modest comeback with this shoe, needs improvement but a good start. The shoe feels comfortable straight away, fits nice & snug, like it was made specifically for you! Fit was true to the EU size for me.I had hoped to use this as a race shoe but it's a bit heavy, 50g more than my usual fast shoe in the 'Rebel' from New Balance & even had a good 30g on my long run shoe, the Hoka Cliftons, the amount of rubber grip on the outsole may be a contributing factor to this, does offer good grip on all surfaces tho.The shoe does feel springy & you get the effect of the carbon plate, my hoka's felt sloppy & like running barefoot after wearing them! it was comfy on easy runs & doing sessions at faster paces, tho it's a bit stiff due to the dense foam & carbon plate. One thing I don't understand is why all these so called 'super shoes' have such a high heel to toe drop, in my opinion it makes them feel clunky & forces you more onto your heels, the deviate is lower than some with an 8mm drop but still I'd prefer 4-6 for an uptempo or race shoe. Like remember the original zero drop race flat, how things change...it's like mobile phones, they keep getting bigger! ;)I did have some issues with the heel rubbing, when I ran faster, on one side like many others, but fixed that buy putting bandaides along the inside of the heel seem & lock lacing them. I'm thinking this might be a great option for someone on a budget who can only get one shoe to do it all.Good durability wise with the dense foam & thick rubber outsole, just depends if you want a fast shoe or a durable one!Overall a decent shoe, probably more of an easy/recovery day shoe for me I think, I would love to see puma come out with another carbon plated shoe for racing/fast training (I know they already have the deviate nitro elite but that's still has an 8mm drop) I want a shoe that's a lot lighter, a little more flexible & with a LOWER heel to toe drop PLEASE!!! :)

Highly recommended grippy light response shoe
22 April 2023

I'm training for Hyrox and these are one of the recommended trainers due to Puma being the main sponsor, but that said I can definitely see how the versatility of the shoe makes it so popular and such a good one to cope with various demands of the competition. It has just the right responsiveness for running, yet stability for farmers carry and lunges, with really good grip for sleds. They are comfortable and secure on your feet and I really like the orange white wash, though it would have been nice to have had a few other colour options but that's nit picking! Highly recommend. Also highly recommend Start Fitness. Quick and efficient service and I got this at a really good price. I will be returning in the future.

Like running on clouds with every run!
18 June 2021

I have never tried Puma for running shoes, but after running in the Deviate NITROS for the past month or so, I am hooked. Putting them on out of the box and walking around in them was seriously like walking on clouds. The shoe fit like a glove, the toe box on my right foot was a little more snug than the left foot. Going out for a run in them for the first time was amazing…that running on clouds feeling continued, I didn’t feel like I was putting such an effort into my stride, my legs were NOT tired after and my splits were faster. This shoe is so responsive it’s insane!! Ive ran distances in them from 1 mile to 8, with each step as cushiony as when I first ran in them. The heel lock is a nice feature for support, I do wear a moderately thicker sock when running to prevent blisters from occurring. Puma has really captured a new audience with this shoe, the price point is on target and runners will be pleasantly surprised at how amazing the shoe is! Overall, I HIGHLY recommend this shoe and I’m glad I tried something new!

Marathon Tested
17 June 2021

I was very excited to receive a pair of Puma Deviate Nitros to test out as a BibRave Pro. The timing was perfect as I had two marathons on my calendar which I planned to serve as training runs. I run about 9 marathons a year and qualified for Boston 2021. I was surprised how perfectly the Pumas fit, just like a glove. The size was true to my other go to brands - Nike, Brooks and Saucony. The shoe is extremely comfortable and bouncy and seems to propel forward like other carbon plated shoes. They are a joy to run in, I had fun breaking them in. Then I put them to the ultimate test - 26.2 miles twice - and they were great to race in. The noticeable difference between these shoes and my Nike Alphaflys is that they are better as an all around shoe, not just for faster ... MoreI was very excited to receive a pair of Puma Deviate Nitros to test out as a BibRave Pro. Size up a half-size
28 June 2023

I have previously purchased Puma Nitro runners (of a different series/model) hence my order of these. I found these sized smaller by about half a size, which was disappointing that the fit was different and therefore not comfortable at the beginning. When I wore them in without the insoles they stretched slightly and I can now wear them comfortably, but I was concerned they wouldn't stretch. Would recommend sizing up by 0.5 especially if between sizes. Nice bounce to sole.

Wow. So I signed up to try this shoe from Puma and when I received it I was so excited (I did not pay for them)! I've been running in the Brooks Hyperion Tempos (which I love). I took this out for my speed work today, on a mix of brick / sidewalk / road. The shoe performed well at my faster paces, and I think it even did okay at the slower recovery intervals. It definitely felt BETTER at those 8:15-7:00 pace range. First thing I noticed was how cushioned the shoe is. Compared to the Tempos, there's more shoe there, which I really liked. It felt like it made me more even and balanced on my feet if that makes sense? The upper is mesh and breathable, good for Florida where I run. There’s padding inside the shoe, on the outside and inside by your ankles to keep from rubbing. I hadn’t experienced a design like that before. This is a women’s fit, so the heel is more narrow and fitted, with the toe box being less forgiving. The carbon plate in the shoe (which I’ve never used before) was nice! The shoe is stiff because if it, though.I can’t get over the cushion level. I could literally FEEL myself springing forward, which I loved!! I run heavy on my feet and these shoes worked WONDERFULLY.If you have a slightly wider foot, this shoe may not be for you. The toe box isn’t as wide as other ones out there. My average / narrow foot felt okay. But just something to keep in mind!Overall I’m very impressed. I’m going to give them a few more tries on long runs to see how the compare with the other speed shoes I’ve used / been using. But I will say these are a contender and I would absolutely recommend them!
