Purina Tidy Cats Instant Action Cat Litter 1 35 lb. Pail

This is the cat litter we've been using. Honestly I hate cat litter in general I find it messy and yucky and really this is no exception. It does do a good job of masking the smell and the clumping is pretty decent. That said my girl prefers to pee in the same spot. The clumping doesn't really hold up to that unless I can catch it after every pee. I usually scoop her litter once a day but try try for twice due to this issue. If she pees twice in the same spot the litter definitely doesn't hold up and just becomes a gross mess. It is dusty when you switch out to a fresh round of litter which can be gross as well. 3 Cats, Lasts Less Than 5 Days

The smell is unbearable! I have used Fresh Step or Arm %26 Hammer for years, now I’ll just stay with them. This time the budget for two large litter boxes was tight, so I needed the 35lb pail for $20. I have already gone through one whole pail in less than 5 days. I scoop every day and have had to refresh every day because it smells awful! It’s not the scent of the litter… it’s the urine and stool smell overpowering the scent, it basically amplifies it! Its ability to clump is barely existent, especially if your cats urinate along the side of the box. I am about to pour half of this litter in the trash and pour clean stuff on it because it is just that bad. 3 cats, and in less than 5 days, I might have 8lbs of litter left unused, but the box smells like I haven’t ... MoreThe smell is unbearable! Great For Multi-Cats, Low Dust, andClean Clumping.

We are a multi-cat household so a fair amount of litter comes in and out. Tidy Cats is an excellent quality clumping litter that has a lower dust factor. This particular scent is rather strong but not unpleasant IMHO. It is a cleaner scent like soap, not perfumy or overpoweringly artificial like some others. The clumps are pretty hard and easy to scoop.For me these 20 lb jugs are manageable to handle - I unpack them before moving them inside. The heavier cartons can be a nightmare to move when you have back problems. Great clumping litter

I received this cat litter in exchange for a fair and honest review. I actually received a coupon which I was easily able to redeem at my local pet supply store. If I were to have purchased it, the price point is one that I feel comfortable. As for effectiveness, this product compares with the best of clumping litters. Urine is formed into tight balls that do not fall apart when my automatic litter box pushes them into the bin. This also is not an overly Dusty litter so that is an improvement over many other brands. The sun is light and not overpowering and both of my cats tolerated the change very easily. Layers upon layers of dust

I have been using tidy cats for as long as I can remember (my oldest cat is 21 yearsOld and has never used a different litter type AND I had cats before her that lived 18-20 years only using tidy cats as well). I don’t know if I’m just now realizing it or if they quality has gone down SIGNIFICANTLY over the last couple of years but, I’m currently shopping for other brands to try because the dust is UNREAL. I have my litter boxes in a room and I’ve lived here for 6 months. I opened the closet in that room and the litter dust is unbelievable. I bought a very high end air purifier that spends its time in that room and even it struggles to do the job particularly when scooping. No Comparison With Clumping

I used Tidy Cat Instant Action Clumping for years and loved it until they changed the formula. I've tried several different kinds since, other Clumping, Pretty Litter and they were all a mess.With Tidy Cat Non-Clumping Clay Litter I don't put as much in, just enough for my cat to scratch around in, and I keep it scooped out and stirred up. Then I empty the box every 2 or 3 days. It's so much easier! Plus my cat really likes it more than the Clumping.At 73 it's really hard to change a box with 3 or 4 inches of Litter. This is much easier to handle.I do wish that Chewy would come up with a shipping plan for Litter where the boxes would be lighter. I have to empty boxes at my gate and carry them in separately because of the weight.

Tidy Cat Instant is crappy now

I've used this product for many years. At first the clumps from the urine were nice and hard and scooping was easy. Plus it controlled the odor. For almost a year now, the clumps are falling apart when you try to scoop! It doesn't seem to matter if it's today's scooping or even waiting another day to scoop...they fall apart. Once in awhile I get clumps somewhat hard. Has Tidy Cat changed their formula/ingredients? I'm looking for another product that will perform like Tidy Cat once did. I use a lot of this product every year, as I sometimes supplement my order by buying local if the price is better. I hate to really change products as it upsets my cats. Too heavy, too grey

This litter is very heavy - even the 20 lb bag. Dark grey with greenish pieces. Grey litter itself is large pebble sized compared to other clay non-clumping. Does have a slight fragrance although says it does not. Does collect well around poop making scooping poop out fairly easy. Urine settles to bottom in LARGE wet areas. My cats do not use it much at all as much as another light grey non-clumping litter or a clumping ductless truly fragrance free litter that I recently found. Will not buy the Tidy Cats again - will be transitioning to the new clumping litter - not sure I can name it - the cats and I all love it - and it's not that expensive!!!!! Thank you Chewy!!!!!

Wouldn’t buy again

I typically buy Fresh Step but Chewy was out of stock so I ordered Tidy Cat. I see lots of people using it. My local cat rescues request it for donations and the price seemed like a good value. It did not control odor good even with frequent scooping. The box always smelled like urine. When the cats pooped it was really bad. Fresh Step has much better & longer lasting odor control.I did not like the texture of Tidy Cat. My cats didn’t care. They are great about using whatever kind of litter I use in their box. The Tidy Cat has a coarser grain than Fresh Step. The particles are larger, granular, but also somewhat random in size and it also has a lot of really fine particulates and dust.It’s supposed to be clumping litter. When it did get wet it got almost muddy and would stick to the litter box sides and bottom and require a lot of scraping with the scooping.Overall I was very disappointed in the performance of this litter and won’t buy it again.
