After about a month of wearing it I decided to leave a review. It is a good softshell pants for a colder weather. Enough protection not feel cold from a blowing wind. Breathes well too.Good cut. Great zippers and pockets in right places . Webbing belt has a great simple closure. Now, the negative...I wish the sizing has an overlap between sizes for about a half inch at least. I think made a mistake getting a medium, too wide in waist and way too much of room left. However if I would get a small it would be too snag to be useful.Double snap closure is uncomfortable to use, these snap buttons are too small.Webbing belt, 30 mm is too narrow and it slides up way too easily. I wish it was 37-40mm.

I have 3 pairs of these since November 23. I work as a ranger and wore them most days. They are really comfortable and I would sooner wear them than any other trousers. The draw back is after wearing 1 pair for one day they started balling up in the crotch area like you would see on a wool jumper. I brought them back and was advised they seen this before but it was rare. Since then 3/3 pairs have balled up all over. I would expect this to happen if I was going through briars or something but it's not the case. Given I could get a call at the drop of a hat to go to something I have to be careful if I choose to wear them as they are scraggy looking and aren't presentable.

Good but shorter than older Rab pants

These incline AS pants (long length) are at least an inch shorter than my Rab vector pants of which I have three. Will be ok with hiking boots for me. I had not realised that LONG length is now only 34 inches. My old vectors were perfect for everyday use in the winter, but the new incline AS I will keep for muddy walks only.

25 February 2023

Great trousers. The fit is fairly slim through the leg, which I like. I can’t stand traditional walking trousers that flap around and look like there’s enough material for two pairs. Maybe they could be a bit narrower in the leg for my tastes, but that’s just me - they’re certainly slimmer fit than most.I went for 30” waist, short leg (which is supposed to be 30” length). I’d say the fit round the waist is ever so slightly generous - like a 30.5” waist would perhaps be. Length-wise, I think again they’re ever so slightly longer than billed. But with hiking boots / shoes on, they’re okay. I can’t do with a lot of walking trousers that are not only hugely baggy, but also too long (even if you’re tall). So these were great.Weight-wise, they’re a good all round weight ... MoreGreat trousers. The fit is fairly slim through the leg, which I like. So these were great.Weight-wise, they’re a good all round weight - you could probably get away using these on a warm’ish day, and also on a cool day with some thermals underneath. The only slight minor thing I’d improve is the integral belt - when done up, there is a tendency for the front of the trousers to drop down slightly whilst the belt remains where it is. Not in any way uncomfortable, and only an issue if you wear your T-shirt / top tucked into your trousers, as otherwise it’’s not visible. I’ve seen this point mentioned on other reviews. However, it doesn’t bother me, as I do t wear tops tucked into my trousers unless it’s a base layer.

9 February 2023

I was hoping these would be a bit warmer than they are. They're insulated but VERY slightly. The belt system is HORRIBLE. it just doesn't work well. If you want an included belt/waist adjustment system take a look at what PRANA does with their zion style pants. With the design on these Inclines you can't swap in a normal belt very well and even if you did the lack of belt loops near the buttons means the belt, whatever style, will ride up over the top of the pants and is very uncomfortable. The included belt fastener is terrible. Too skinny and difficult to fit into the catch hole of the webbing itself. The "belt loop" section of the pants also make it very impractical to attache anything that would normally ride on the belt like a multi-tool or holster. The front ... MoreI was hoping these would be a bit warmer than they are. Remove the zipper and don't cant them at an angle, you can't carry a pocket knife with the zipper set up.In short these things are ok to lay about the house in. They won't be making it outdoors AT ALL. I did at least have many things pointed out to me to keep in mind for the next set of pants I buy to fill the need I have for an outdoor, insulted climbing/hiking pant. Take these Inclines back to the design board and start over!

Love the incline as softshell
2 December 2023

Love the incline as softshell pants. The quality of the fabric is excellent and allows great freedom of movement. Pockets are all in the perfect place. Most of all I really appreciate that you still produce pants with regular and long inseam options. I’m 6’2 and weight is 160. I wear 32 waist and absolutely need the long inseam for a perfect fit. Unfortunately fewer and fewer companies offer “long” inseam options. Your incline pants are an absolutely perfect fit. Highly recommend them!

My 2nd pair, black this
16 February 2023

My 2nd pair, black this time. All black incl. Zip pulls. Other grey pair I own have orange zip pulls which contrast nicer. Great fit on both with pop tabs on ankle so good for less chunkier boots or over trail shoes. My Meindl boots are tight over it. Another 1/2" would be perfect. Eco friendly packable from Rab (toughened paper/card) so thumbs up for that. Only thing is belt isn't great. Swap out for your choice but it frustrating to thread it thru as it goes "under" seems so have to try to fish it out when feeding. Weave might get pulled on mountain/ forest trails and take the nice look off but a 1st world problem. Recommended as very light and comfy. Might try on the golf course too as smart but great movement in them.

18 January 2023

Rab is quickly becoming my go-to brand for hiking/outdoor gear. These soft-shell pants are fantastic. While I've only worn them in cold weather so far, I can tell these will be my staple pant for all-weather situations. In cold weather, they perform very well. I typically wear a baselayer underneath for a little added warmth but I have worn just them in the low 40s and once I got moving, I was warm and comfortable. The zippered pockets give me that piece of mind that items are secure. I do wish both legs had the thigh pocket but that's a tiny gripe for an overall amazing product.

The Incline AS, a poor replacement for the Vector
23 February 2022

The Incline AS are a very poor replacement for the VectorsHaving purchased 2 pairs of the previous Vectors, used in all sorts of environments I think I have a good idea as to what these new Incline AS are all about. The Vectors were excellent I mean really, really excellent and ideal for my lifestyle including general mountaineering. Up against their main competitor the Mountain Equipment Ibex, of which I also have a pair, they were far superior. So let's compare and contrast the old Vectors with the new incline AS.1. Material - The fabric used in the Vectors are much heavier weight and much much more stretchy. The material used in Incline AS is much lighter has less stretch and feels very similar to the inferior MS Ibex. Material - The fabric used in the Vectors are much heavier weight and much much more stretchy. The material used in Incline AS is much lighter has less stretch and feels very similar to the inferior MS Ibex. In the Vector, the material in the pockets are made from the the same material as the rest of the trouser. In the Incline AS, the material is made from an inferior lightweight mesh. In practical use there is much less freedom of movement and the stretchiness of the old Vectors means it does not get so caught up on things. The Vectors have stood up too much use and abuse and show no significant wear or damage. The fabric in the Incline, while it's too early to say whether they are more or less durable, it certainly feel less durable. The fabric on the legs are starting to ball up.2. Features -Belt - The belt in the Vectors is easy to connect does not get lost in the wash (most of the time) and fits well around my waste. In the Incline AS it has a hook thing, while that feature hasn’t presented any significant issues compared to the Vectors it is still a little awkward to connect if there is still tension on the belt. So far the belt hasn’t gotten lost in the wash. On the incline there is not enough support for the belt at the front, it needs the belts loops closer together. The Vector is perfect in this regard.Pockets - The right amount of pockets and in a useful position in both the Vectors and Incline AS. When rock climbing the harness sits above the hip pocket allowing good access. The vectors had a section of the hip pocket partitioned off for somewhere to put your mobile phone to stop it falling sideways in the pocket. THIS IS THE SINGLE MOST IRRITATING THING ABOUT THE INCLINE AS. THAT POCKET IS NOW GONE!! The elimination of this feature means that your phone is in the way when climbing and the feel and look of the pocket changes when the phone is sideways; it just looks silly. In the Vectors your phone was previously really easy to access to take photos while climbing.Hem - In the Vectors there were 2 press studs to allow you to adjust the hem, very useful and worked brilliantly taking advantage of loads of stretch in the fabric; you really could get it tight around the boot. You could walk through muddy bogs and remain dry. In the Incline AS you have an extra press stud. I suspect this is because the new material is less stretchy and you need that extra stud to make sure its tight around you boot.In the Vector, RAB has taken and excellent design, a really excellent product and have messed it up! The Incline AS Is inferior in almost every way. It's more expensive than the Vector but I’m sure less expensive to make. If you are new to the Incline AS I’m sure they will do an adequate job, but it's best to know what they could have been. RAB, please think again.

great pants, too bad about the pilling
4 August 2022

I bought these pants four months ago and after they arrived I thought I’d found the perfect pants for the mountains. Fit is perfect, they are the right weight - not too heavy, not too light - the placement and design of the zippered pockets is just right, and the construction seems to be top notch. I used them for some day hikes and biking at home before taking them on a week-long backcountry trip in the Rockies. They worked great there, just the right amount of warmth, and it seems that the mosquitoes can’t get through. I washed after returning, I believe the fourth time they’ve been washed, and the pilling has become very bad. Previously there was a bit of pilling in the higher wear areas, but now it’s all over. It doesn’t affect their performance, but I expected better from a premium-priced product like this. The old pair of REI that they replaced haven’t pilled at all in about a decade of fairly hard use. Two stars might be a bit harsh, but I expected better from Rab.
