Rab Mythic Ultra Jacket - Marmalade L

(100 reviews)

Rab's goal was to create an alpine down jacket with the best ever warmth to weight ratio. Rab set to work combining their advanced heat retaining TILT technology with the lightest, strongest fabrics Rab could find, and the unbeatable warmth-for-weight of goose down. Rab also used a combination of baffles to maximise performance. Lightweight stitch through-baffles on the arms and hood give better mobility, and boxwall baffles around the core encourage the down to fully loft maximising heat trapping. The baffles are offset, which distributes the down evenly around the core and reduces the chance of any cold spots. After extensive R&D Rab found that positioning the layer of TILT as close to the body as possible maximised heat retention. This heat reflective layer gives the Mythic Ultra Jacket a noticeable boost in thermal efficiency, welcome warmth on frigid belays and frozen summits. To keep weight at a minimum Rab used an ultralight 10D outer which is 100% recycled. This Pertex Quantum fabric with built-in ripstop is strong, durable, weather protective and feels soft to the touch. Designed for use by alpinists and mountaineers it has a helmet compatible hood, two-way front zip for use with a harness, and fine-tuned articulation through the sleeves for climbing. All zips, adjusters and the stuff sack have been designed to be lightweight and low bulk. Scooping up both an ISPO Award 2022 and GearJunkie’s “Best in Show” celebrating future-leading technology and construction, the Mythic Ultra is a game changer for mountain athletes who count every gram. Pertex QuantumA soft, lightweight, windproof fabric that encourages insulation to fully loft. Highly packable and protective, it's ideal for mountain activities. TILT technologyA radical, heat retaining tech that works like an emergency blanket reflecting heat back towards your body, while maintaining breathability and comfort. Boosting thermal efficiency, it keeps you warm when the temperature plummets.

Amazing jacket! Bought this just

Amazing jacket! Bought this just in time for a trip to Iceland, had I known how warm this is I would have left the parka at home. Crazy warm, standing around in 30's and a t-shirt is fine, hood fits over a helmet or cinches down nicely without, collar is perfect to drop your face into when the wind picks up and the soft liner and lots of stuffing are like little down pillows for your face. Wind insulation also excellent. This much warmth in something that packs down so small is unreal. Spent a week with the weather hovering around 15-20f everyday with plenty of wind in iceland and this was perfect with a light fleece. Two caveats, it doesn't run small but the cut is intended to keep the material close to maximize the heat reflecting effect so this is not big and ... MoreAmazing jacket! Not that you need to because this is so warm but if you want a big fluffy jacket with lots of space for chunky sweater, this might feel a little tight. Also been shedding a few feathers, not terrible and hopefully this slows but more than my mountain hardware with similar down loft rating.

Bizarre tapered fit, otherwise great jacket

Look at the picture of the model wearing this jacket with his back to the camera. You can see that the material is slack across his upper back but tight around his waist and hips, compressing the down and making it less warm. That's because the jacket is oddly tapered. It's apparently tailored for somebody with a 30 inch waist and 28 inch hips! The model is obviously not fat, but you can see it's too snug on his waist/hips for a down jacket. I am 5'7, 155lbs, and ordered a medium. Even with just a t-shirt on underneath, the jacket is snug around my hips. Wearing layers underneath, the down is really compressed, which defeats the whole purpose of down. It's a shame because everything else about it is great - it packs really well and has a good amount of down in it ... MoreLook at the picture of the model wearing this jacket with his back to the camera. Great jacket for mountaineering. It's sturdy, great looking and cozy warm for its light weight. Double zipper makes it easy to put on your Petzl harness. The material used on the part that brushes your face when fully zipped up is non-abrasive and comfortable.I do wish they had added inside pouches at the bottom, like my Montbell, which are useful for carrying food or hydration pouches.

I tried the jacket last week
8 January 2023

Dear Ladies and Gentlemen, I write you as i was lucky I tried the garment to feel how it is . I tell you as much I can imagine on a garment it is overpriced and the quality of recycled should drop the price not increase. Rab is changing with the time and It is going to manufacture in Chinatown. Luckily I returned immediately.

Really warm for the weight
22 November 2022

As ever great build quality and attention to detail. My only concerns are that making the jacket so light might affect its longevity - going to be careful with it so that might pay dividends in itself. Also got comments on the marmalade colour showing the black down feathers through the fabric which made the jacket look a bit grubby. I know I know.

Serious Warmth
29 November 2022

Very nice jacket. Best worn at temperatures below twenty degrees. Weight to warmth ratio is exceptional. Have worn in below zero temps repeatedly and it does the job. The only criticism I have is the main zipper. It's two way and is somewhat fiddly. I'd much prefer a one way zipper, but I also never use the feature to open up the bottom only. If you are looking for super warm, technical down jacket I think this is a great choice. Fit is relatively trim and well suited for those without a big stomach.

Super light, super warm, excellent
14 December 2022

Super light, super warm, excellent cold weather jacket. One concern would be even new, it looks like it has stains on in from the darker down showing through. Not an issue for me as it was bought as an expedition jacket, but some maybe put off if using for work or social activities.

Super light, super warm, odd fit
21 November 2023

This jacket is crazy light. It's actually hard to believe when you hold it. I really think it's too warm to do any activity in, even in -30 types of weather.Having an unattached stuff sack instead of it stuffing into one of its pockets is a poor design choice. The fit is odd. The Rab Neutrino medium is a perfect fit for me, and this says it has the same regular fit, but a medium is tight around my hips, and a large is too large. Because of this off sizing I returned and went with another model.

Superb jacket, exceptionally warm, light
11 December 2022

Superb jacket, exceptionally warm, light and compressible, the radiant sheet technology does exactly what it says. As a mountaineering instructor it is just what I’m looking for - typical Rab, thanks. The marmalade colour looks great, the pertex is so thin that you can see the down - the dark bits at first look like marks but actually is very cool.

This jacket is incredibly lightweight
17 April 2023

This jacket is incredibly lightweight and warm! I picked it up for a backcountry ski trip in Hokkaido where the daily highs were 10-12F. During our transitions I was cozy warm while everyone else in my group was shivering. It also packs down really small so it doesn't take up much space in my pack.
