Legend of Legaia was one of the first JRPG's I had ever played as a child. While the concept of a playable story on such a large scale was new to me, the game was an immediate draw in with it's unique type of combat system and a story that starts vague but blooms in the same way the difficulty curves as an average RPG requires. The story is not the greatest by any means, but looking in depth it addresses many dark topics that are often ignored even today such as refugeeism, subjugation, slavery, poverty, over dependency, xenophobia and so many more. About the only thing that is a downside to the game is how cliche some of the characters are, including the main protagonist who fills the stereotypical role of many RPG's requiring they be silent, the ignorant girl who becomes the heroine after learning a truth, and the muscle man who is oblivious to the aura of jealousy he brings to others. These particular stereotypes will be overly played out as you progress in the game, but if you look past it you have a solid masterpiece. I have played this game for years on and off numerous times and I would highly recommend it for RPG lovers that love a good story, and are expecting the unexpected with a combat system.

There's another that turns enemies into hedges. The weapon upgrade grind is much more forgiving this time, so maxing out your entire arsenal isn't much of a chore if you're inclined to do that.I felt that having maybe one or 2 more planets to explore would've been great, but what's already here is also plenty to explore. Planets are large with optional objectives and areas. They're quite varied from one another. The Rift mechanic is essentially a glorified teleportation device, but nevertheless fun to use and handy in combat and platforming. You'll switch between 2 characters who play almost identically to each other. As with the PS4 entry, Ratchet and Clank are quite bland characters. The series has taken on a wholesome tone that caters well towards a younger crowd but may disappoint fans of the crasser PS2 titles. That being said, you'll still feel invested in the characters, and plot events will unfold that make it hard to put the controller down. I just hope the obsession with Dr Nefarious dies down. It's time the series introduced new compelling villains.

Loading times are non-existant, the graphics are amazing, and the framerate on performance mode looked and felt like a locked 60fps. The game controls are responsive and the haptics are cool. I did not use them but a bevy of accesibility options are available. Now as a Ratchet and Clank game, however, I think it was wuite middling. It was a bit on the shorter side and even on higher difficulties there was not much of a challenge. Even worse is some of the sillier guns requires beating the game first just to play with them. And speaking of silly, there just wasn’t a lot of funny moments compared to previous entries which I attribute to the story juggling six characters ... MoreIf you’re looking for a game to showcase some of the stuff a PS5 can do this is a perfect title. Rift apart is a beautiful game. The story absolutely captivated me from start to finish, the cutscenes were masterfully crafted, and there was a healthy mix of platforming and fighting. However, this game fails to separate itself from any other ratchet and clank game. Although rifting to new dimensions was an incredible experience that showcased the power of the PS5, I felt like I had played the game already. The formula of every ratchet and clank experience was yet again used here. Ratchet and clank have some sort of problem, clank gets separated, does some puzzles on his own, and then rejoins ratchet at the end. Essentially, in every game we start with a strong and happy duo, followed by individual growth and longing for each other, finished by a reminder of how great teamwork is. The plot line and themes are old and predictable. Moreover, there was a lack of enemy diversity. I felt like I had already fought the same enemies in other games. Most of the new enemies are just reskins of past enemies, and some enemies are plain reused. Even if the repeat enemies are only there because of the rift openings to other dimensions, I felt bored fighting them. Also, I just didn’t enjoy any of the weapons that were introduced. Yet again, they were all variations of old weapons and sometimes the exact same ones. They felt clunky and uninspired (except the RYNO). Plus, the extra perk from hitting level 5 on a weapon was often unnoticeable.Overall, the biggest compliment I can give this game is its story. The new characters were introduced well and they had a great climax and ending to them. The dialogue was well written and humorous, and it was enjoyable to see every past character’s other dimensional half.In the future, I’d like to see the Ratchet and Clank franchise try something new, as they have done in the past with a few games. Find something truly new to the formula. Take a risk and give us an experience that feels unique.

I loved these games as a kid back in the PS2 era, and wasn't completely thrilled with the PS4 remake of the original game - but luckily, this entry is a magnificent return to form, and I'm so so so glad I finally found a PS5 and got to play it.This game rocks, it's absolutely fantastic, pretty darn close to a 10/10 from me. The visuals are so good that, to me, they're actually better than the Ratchet and Clank movie from a few years ago. Not the PS4 game, the movie itself; Rift Apart looks so amazing in motion that it's actually even better than that, in the ~90fps performance raytracing mode. The weapons are also really good, there isn't a single bad one in the entire game. I found myself switching between pretty much all of them as I unlocked them, there isn't really an "old reliable" you stick with, the game makes you get creative.I'm an adult not far from 30, obviously I'm not in the core target demographic here. But nonetheless, on the hardest difficulty, I still found a pretty good amount of challenge here, and almost couldn't stop playing. Honestly this game is just so good, I'm impressed how they could make this game appeal to such a wide variety of gamers from kids to people well into adulthood. The story isn't as cynical as the old PS2 games were, but I think that was on purpose, and the story and characters that are here are still really good and in their own right. I really like Rivet as a new co-main character and I hope they keep her around in the next games. This is easily the best game in the entire franchise. If they ever release it on PC I will buy it again at full price, and I'm extremely excited for what they've got in store for future entries from here.

This game is sadly underappreciated. I've only heard terrible things from "hard-core" fans, but for someone who has been playing Ratchet & Clank since its initial release in 2002, I have to say they are wearing nostalgia goggles. You have no reason to allow the alterations to the plot, such as the inclusion of the villain or the absence of the enormous clank, mar the whole experience. For those who are disturbed by this alteration in the big picture, it is a tie-in to a movie so they had to make some compromises. The pacing is also excellent (unlike the original release or even A Crack in Time), which presumably has something to do with some planets being completely removed. Really fun, plays like you're playing an action adventure Pixar movie sometimes. One of the few games I have ever bothered to platinum it was so addictive. Love the haptics and the graphics, and the game designers did a great job of giving players incentive to change up their weapon selection. There's also a somewhat enticing new game + mode where you can upgrade weapons further. So why only four stars? The worlds are beautiful but very linear and not very interactive: corridors leading up to a slambang action set-piece (albeit always entertaining), the story is very familiar and typical "save-the-world-from-bumbling-villain" fare, and I don't think they did enough with the multi-dimensional premise aside from a few admittedly cool chase scenes. The weapon diversity was good, but nothing really innovative for the series. There are about 25 and many feel like variations (do you want a melee sentry, a shooter sentry, or another shooter sentry? A rocket launcher that explodes, or a plasma stream that explodes, or how about just grenades that, well, also explode? A blaster that fires in a spread or like a mini-gun or with bullets that stun? Speaking of, stun enemies by freezing them or turning them into topiaries? Etc.), so there isn't much need to use more than about 6 or 7 of them, and since all weapons are effective against all enemy types, few if any reason to diversify unless you're a completionist. Still, remains one of the showcase games for the PS5 in terms of possibilities for the console.

Very fun game. Meh story.
27 January 2023

The gameplay of Ratchet and Clank: Rift Apart is just absolutely amazing. The feedback and adaptive triggers are just perfect. Platforming and shooting an arsenal of weird weapons has never felts so great. Unfortunately, the story is very lacking. A few interactions between Ratchet and Rivet are a bit cringe. Some story beats and character choices are rather basic and lack originality and personality. If you are a more dedicated fan then you should know that the continuity is very disjointed. The story follows the plots presented in the RaC future saga, but then ignores the original trilogy's plot points in favor of the mediocre remake.

This menu where you can change your weapons, the way currency look like, the way your ship looks like, infinite ammo etc. Gameplay did feel easier compare to previous game but maybe i played too many R&C games that i got use to it. there are no racing mini game like in the previous game such as hover board, they do have this one small creature that you use to ride really fast to get to the boss but it is for just a small part of the game and for that particular map only. you have arena where you have 3 different tier of challenges which mostly you fight waves of enemies with certain condition like only certain weapons allowed or mini racing game as i mentioned earlier but mostly you just kill waves of different type of enemies. Story is also very engaging but felt bit shorter compare to previous game. There are collectible but very easy to find and i barely used any guide to help me. getting trophies and achievement is very very easy compare to previous games, i mean 2/10 difficulty. over all i enjoyed the game.
