Razer Blade 16 ReviewHaving owned the Razer Blade 16 for 2 weeks now I can say that it is an excellent machine. It is stylish with excellent build quality and aside from the large Razer logo, it has a stealthy look which means this machine is well suited to office tasks just as well as it is for gaming. Heat and fan noise seem well reasonable and the machine only gets hotter when gaming. For regular tasks it barely gets Luke warm and the fans are hardly audible, which isnāt the case with previous gaming laptops that Iāve owned. But if you donāt need all the settings maxed out to enjoy games then this machine can run a lot cooler and quieter. Port selection is great and the WiFi card is much faster on this than it was on my previous laptop, making it a much nicer experience when downloading large games such as Red Dead Redemption 2 from Steam. My only gripe with this laptop is that the feel of the keyboard is a bit shallow and the power cable being an odd 90 degree connector that can block one of the USB ports if you run the cable to the front of the machine. All in all, if you can afford the high price tag and donāt need or want a 17 or 18 inch laptop, then Iād highly recommend the Razer Blade 16. Oh, and itās no larger than a 15.6 inch laptop either, so the footprint hasnāt been increased despite the larger screen size.

I have always liked Razer laptops, and this will be the next one that I purchase. I have a desktop so I haven't upgraded my laptop since the one I purchased 4 years ago which I have loved but since I am not going to be able to use my desktop, I needed to upgrade. I need a powerful laptop with a GPU in order to work on my Deep Learning projects and research (I do not really play video games) and this laptop delivers. The laptop feel, look, and performance + battery life are unmatched compared to any of the other laptops I have seen. I think that if you are willing to spend the money, this laptop brings an unparalleled experience that just is not obtainable from any other product on the market.The reason it is not 5 stars:I benchmarked my laptop when it arrived, and it was at spec. Unfortunately, the touchpad stopped responding to tactile movement 3 days after the return window ended (it has faulty switches). I went into BestBuy to get this issue sorted out and they diagnosed correctly that it was a manufacturing defect, even approved an exchange, but they were unable to complete the exchange or help me in any other way since Best Buy's system would not allow them to since this laptop is ordered to spec. I am currently in the process of dealing with Razer customer support which has so far been pleasant, but I will update this review when I learn more.Final thoughts:Overall amazing product that is unmatched for quality and performance. Razer is known for having "Interesting" quality control and until now, I have avoided getting a dud. If you are outside of the return window (I was by 3 days) when a problem occurs, BestBuy will not be able to assist you in any way, which is something to consider given the price and the likelihood of problems occurring. Even still with the touchpad issue, I would have still purchased this again if I could go back.

This happens way too often. Maybe 50 times in the 5 days I've owned it. Very frustrating.As of 3/16, as I write this I have all of the Nvidia and Razer updates installed. Firmwares, Drivers, everything. Razer released a Panel Update for this model, but whatever it does (the site isn't clear on what it addresses), it doesn't resolve my problem.The crash happens the most when I have the GPU set to discreet graphics only. But the blank screen happens either on discreet or integrated.I haven't decided if I'll return it or swap it for another of the same model. Maybe I just have a bad one, but I've been reading that this is a pretty common problem, and not just with Razer. I first bought a Gigabyte Aorus 17X AZF but traded it for this Razer Blade 16 because it had the same issue. I've seen a YouTube video of a review of the ASUS Strix 16 that also has the same issue. I think the problem might be with Nvidia because the common denominator is the graphics card.I hope this is helpful to someone. If I do swap it for the same model and the problem goes away, I'll update this review and maybe even give it 5 stars. Besides the video issue, I really do like this laptop.I ticked that I'd recommend, but only if this one I have is faulty. If it's a problem with this model, I'd definitely NOT recommend.

This PC is my first adventure into the world of Razer. It's a good performer, a solid machine and a nice looking machine. It meets my needs as a Software Engineer and then some.On the flip side, disappointed best describes my overall feeling about this computer. Not sure, but again at this price point, not acceptable. Will other preventable problems crop up as time goes on? Who knows.Most likely I am returning this machine. I definitely don't want a repair after owning the machine for a mere 2 days, but if BBY has another one in stock I may do an exchange and give a second machine a try.
I got mine at Micro Center, though I would have preferred to get it from Best Buy to take advantage of total tech. So far its been perfect, no issues at all. I would normally have a full desktop setup, but lost the space due to an unexpected incoming family member (baby). I had the MSI Titan, which I really liked, but couldnāt quite deal with how big it is. This one is perfect. The 16:10 means youāre driving more pixels, but the dual mode display takes the worry away. I play now on the couch with a lap board, so I miss the keyboard from the MSI, but the pros outweigh the cons for me. It feels very thin and light for the performance it packs. Also, the keyboard is fine, itās just not a full mechanical with a 10 key. Hands down the best laptop I have ever owned. Get this thing!Build quality is excellent and the trackpad rivals that of a newer MacBook Pro 16". It has a built in webcam shutter which makes it great for work and play. Fans are totally silent on light load but of course spin up louder under full load. I can achieve that with 30% screen brightness and allowing Advanced Optimus to handle disabling the discreet GPU. I consider this outstanding for the CPU, GPU and display in this thing. Battery life is next to nothing when playing AAA games, but that's not surprising with modern chip TDPs.You can look up benchmarks online for the CPU and GPU, but performance is killer. They definitely did the right thing by adding a little chassis thickness to cool the components better and feed them more power. If you're on the fence between 30-series and 40-series, go 40 series. The chips are far better with power efficiency and DLSS3 is no joke. Can totally overcome the terrible AAA game optimization out there these days.

WARNING ATM 2tb is the max you can add ONLY if there are not storage chips on the back side. so the 980 PRO was the one that worked for me as the SSD does not have any chips on the back side.If you get a SSD with chips on the back side it will not work as it will lay flat.

You're paying a Razer and Nvidia tax for sure, but if you want one of the most "premium" looking and performing machines out there, then this is it.PERFORMANCE: So this thing performs like a beast. It's got the full-blown 175-watt RTX 4090 that the much bigger laptops are packing like the MSI Titan (which is even more expensive by the way), and it even performs very similarly, hitting close to the same fps in games. The GPU doesn't really hit 175w all that often, but it still performs insanely well. You've got an unlocked i9-13950HX which means you can undervolt and adjust power limits within Razer Synapse and boost your CPU big time. I've seen record-breaking numbers from this CPU right here (30k+ multi-core in Cinebench R23, which is absolutely mind-blowing).DISPLAY: The display is one of the big selling points here. The 4k looks stunning and sharp, and you definitely do notice it in text. Do I think gaming in 4k on a laptop is a good idea? No. You can do it, but honestly you're better off hooking up to a QHD monitor or just lowering your resolution in games to QHD or switching to the FHD mode, which still looks great while offering much better fps numbers. However, 4K gaming is definitely possible with the performance levels of this laptop (desktop equivalent of like a 3080 Ti or 3090 range), especially when you throw in DLSS and frame generation. The mini-LED display goes up to 1,100+ nits and it is eye-melting bright with amazing contrast. The only ones that can match this are from Asus and they have an advantage of being able to toggle the local dimming switch, which I wish this had because the dimming algorithm can get in the way of content creation at times. Search "Before you Buy a Mini-LED Laptop" on YouTube for more info on that. But it's not OLED so you don't have to worry about burn-in, and HDR 1000 is truly a sight to behold in games and movies. It's vibrant, it's brighter than the sun - it's beautiful.FAN NOISE: A lot of people are missing this point, but this thing is quieter than every other 4090 laptop I've tested (which is almost all of them). It hits less than 50 dB at max performance, and the star of the show is really its Balanced and Silent profiles. The Balanced mode gives you amazing performance still while cutting fan noise in half. Silent mode also still performs amazing while being even quieter. This thing is a bit of a unicorn in this regard since most laptops cut performance WAY back in their Balanced or Quiet modes. Temps get a little warmer for sure but the chassis stays cool enough to comfortably game in these modes. And then while casual browsing the fans stay off or at a low enough rpm to not even hear. The underside does get a bit warm on your legs though if you decide to use it on your lap. I wish they would go with a magnesium/aluminum/plastic hybrid type of body for this reason, but people do love that full-body CNC.BATTERY: It's a power-hungry i9-13950HX so it's not going to have the best battery life out there but it still does well in this regard, getting me about 5+ hours in YouTube playback. That's not too shabby compared to other 4080/4090 laptops out there.MISC: The rest of the laptop is great. The design is nice, very clean looking but a bit of a fingerprint magnet. Keyboard is easy to type on for me with great RGB lighting. Webcam is pretty good with a nice privacy shutter, great port selection, power brick is GaN and much smaller than the competition, and if you're a little more savvy with opening laptops, you can pretty easily replace the liquid paste with something like PTM7950 for better temperatures in games.Overall it's a great device and I went into it with low expectations after seeing reviews like these. Razer has been actively putting out bios and firmware updates to only further improve the experience on this laptop which is pretty respectable. Other good alternatives to this would be the Asus Zephyrus M16 or Zephyrus G14 for those who might find this one a little too large. But you will be sacrificing a little performance for those. That's kind of what makes this one a unicorn. It's got something for everyone, and for some people this might just be the perfect laptop.

The speakers are tinny and have absolutely no bass to them whatsoever, even with THX audio disabled. My unit also emits a high pitch whine whenever audio comes through the speakers. The Synapse 3 software is also awful, it forgets the profile often which results in a broken performance and lighting menus, requiring you to constantly restart it. The fan curve and setup are also done horribly, as doing any light web browsing will result in a constant ramp-up and down on the fans, even in silent mode!
