I recently had to return a Windows laptop which had really good performance but unfortunately, it got incredibly hot to the touch which really concerned me. I replaced it with the M3 Macbook Pro. The build quality is superb! Cannot fault it, infact it's the best I've ever had. I love the light, portable and magnetic charger instead of the massive brick. Downloads from the Apple store takes a whopping 10 mins. I think I unfortunately got a dud! Scared to exchange this incase the performance is genuinely just poor. If I'm spending over 2k on any machine, I expect it to carry out the tasks I throw at it without any problems. Frustrated!

Charge up is super quick as well -- I think less than an hour to fully charge to 100% from a really low state of charge. So this is the first computer that I feel comfortable calling portable since I don't have to worry so much about finding a plug somewhere.For sure, a well built solid machine. The only cons I have to report is the weight -- I put a clam shell clear protector (which was not that heavy), but I feel that this laptop could be used as a weapon to defend myself if I had to (like the really old IBM mechanical keyboards if you are from my generation). Also, I think there is a small defect on the edge of my screen in the super thin black surround frame which is a purely cosmetic annoyance. I didn't bother to claim warranty on this since I figure it does not really affect the computer's functions.Overall, I would buy it again, although I probably would wait for the M4 that is coming out soon. Kudos to Apple again for creating such a nice piece of hardware.

I also do remote work and that's also significantly faster. One of the best ways to see the speed is to pull up a backup from Time Machine. On the old computer it would think for 10 minutes if I went back in time more than a day to retrieve a file. Now it takes a few seconds and I can scan and find an old version of a doc or photo from a year ago and pull it back to the present instantly. Amazing.Only note: Space Black is certainly sexier, but it does show more fingerprinty residue. I use an external keyboard and mouse 95% of the time, but when I travel I'm on the laptop keyboard and notice the smudges on the side metal. I seem to be wiping it down a lot. But it is still very, very cool.I love this machine. I feel so lucky and privileged to have it, and it's making me a more efficient designer and photographer. Yay!

I find that I type very quickly and accurately on the keyboard. The screen is bright, offers great HDR content, and while I would love to see an OLED screen, I can't complain at the quality of what Apple has delivered. It's hard to pick up how well the speakers sound watching videos, you really have to hear it to appreciate it, but they're fantastic.My daily usage revolves around taking Teams calls and checking emails. I plug in overnight, take out at work, and use it most of the day for calls, chats, checking emails, and replying to messages. When I get home, I'm usually around 60-70% battery, depending on how heavily I've used it. I then catch up on the news, watch some YouTube, and do online browsing or shopping if needed. I've not yet felt like I've needed to plug it in, just something I do before going to bed so I know I'm charged up for another fresh day. It's a bit freeing knowing I don't have to show up to the office and find an outlet. I do occasionally edit videos. They don't have a ton of effects or transitions and are usually pretty short. I'm hoping to get to a point where I'm doing more and can better utilize the true potential of this laptop.If I had a negative, it's that MacOS isn't always as intuitive as Apple would have you to believe from all the commercials. There's a heavy reliance on keyboard shortcuts. I wouldn't mind this so much, but the key combinations are not intuitive for where your fingers naturally rest on the keyboard. There's also certain customizations that you cannot do that just doesn't make sense. Apparently in the mail app, swiping right to move to an Archive box just isn't possible. The only reason I can think for doing this is they just don't want to. What I can appreciate however, is how easily it is to search for almost anything on the computer using spotlight, and certain UI choices like stage manager which allows for a more organized way to switch apps. I'm also a huge fan of Apple pushing USB C as the new hotness and I'm disappointed in the rest of the industry for not following. I did struggle to get multiple displays working through my thunderbolt 4 dock, but this could be either the dock isn't compatible with Mac or I need a deeper understanding of how to set it up properly Best I could do was duplicate.In conclusion, I really feel like I'm using the top of the line when it comes to laptops. Strong integration with other apple products helps with productivity and keeping focus but will likely be a point of frustration for those without iPhone. Also know that you're paying for what I call a bit of a designer product that also happens to work great and appeal to the senses.

I'm able to run on battery x high power mode and edit for hours without charging. Due to the flexibility of using USB to charge my computer — finding a power source (including a wall outlet) is very easy. I can even use a 65W charger in place of the stock 140W charger and it'll charge fairly quick.I see no compromise in performance whether I am plugged in or not. This computer never runs hot at all and allows me more options for where I can sit and work on photos. I used to have to most obnoxious setup to keep my Windows PC cool enough to even function well.The only reasons why I really stuck to Windows for so long were the familiarity of shortcutting, file organizing + navigation, and a little bit of PC gaming. The importance of being able to create higher quality edits or producing massive amounts of standard edits more efficiently far outweighs the need to game. The need for portability and battery performance far outweighed the comfort of familiarity of the Windows system — so I took the time and initiative to get to know MacOS and I was finally able to close this gap after about a month. I'm now shortcut savvy on MacOS and can be as blistering fast in my navigation and organization.Ironically, I've always enjoyed using my iPhone & iPad for my phone & tablet needs, but having the MacBook Pro work seamlessly with the rest of my devices has proven rather satisfying. I've seen videos where people have stated upgrading from an M1 Max or M2 Max to this M3 Max isn't exactly worth it — I can't speak on that because I haven't gotten to experience those systems before.However — my sign to switch was not only the slowing of my Windows laptop, but also the fact that this is the first generation of MacBook Pros with an M chip to get a Black colorway. I'm a big fan of this look and I'm glad I made the switch.All my apps open up almost immediately, function pretty much identically whether I'm charging or not, and even after a lot of changes in a single edit — I don't really experience any slowing.This might sound extreme, but this purchase actually changed my life. I am able to breeze through a high-quantity batch of edits as well as experience lag-free high-quality editing without slowing down — allowing to finally clear a humongous backlog I've had over the year and allowing me to finally clear the queue to take on new projects confidently.I will also mention that the display on this MacBook Pro is absolutely STUNNING. I had a 144Hz IPS matted display on my ASUS laptop that was already nice, but having this stunning XDR display at 120Hz is pretty much the same in refresh rate except the color gamut & contrast ratio makes it remarkable and consistent with iPhone & iPad displays. What I see while I edit is what I get. I used to use an iPad as a secondary display to get the consistency that the ASUS display wasn't providing.If you're someone who experiencing a severe bottleneck with your current system and especially with a backlog — I hope this review helps you. It's insane that this system is far more powerful and has a battery that has crazy endurance compared to a Windows laptop. I'm not sure what Windows is doing, but they can't keep up and even I've been forced to switch to get my time back.Happy New Years, everyone. The processing power, battery life, and cool running laptop are amazing. I come from years of using Windows systems and have had Dell XPS 15/16 laptops for the past decade and I can tell you that the Macbook Pro is substantially faster, more efficient, with zero fan noise under normal heavy loads. The battery life is just crazy, I get anywhere from 12 to 15 hours of usage. On a brand new 2023 Dell XPS, I would get 7 hours at best and that's running one session of Windows. The fact that the Apple system seamlessly ties in my phone, watch, tablet, and Apple TV into one cohesive solution is mind blowing. I purchased this 16" MacBook Pro M3 Max for photo and video editing. It replaced my aging mid-2015 15" MacBook Pro which was having a difficult time with 4K video editing and using AI noise reduction tools. I have to say, the improvement in performance is nearly indescribable!For a photo editing example. I sometimes run Lightroom Classic's new AI de-noise tool to clear up images that are just too noisy for my liking (low light/high ISO). For a single image, it took around 10 minutes on the old MBP with the cooling fan running on high. It also delayed any interaction with the mouse or keyboard by nearly a minute rendering the MBP unusable until the image processing was completed. This led me to often render videos so I could watch in Quicktime then go back and re-edit, if needed. The rendering time for 4K videos was very long. Even a 30 second video could take 15 minutes. The new M3 Max lets me work in the editing window like I should be able to do and renders a 30 second 4K video in just a few seconds.I have yet to hear the fan on this new M3 Max and I have loaded it down orders of magnitude higher than I could the old mid-2015 Intel MBP. The physical size is nearly the same as the 15" MBP as the 16" MBP screen just has less of a black framing around the active area. It's very clear and the battery lasts a very long time making it very portable even while doing intensive tasks.I can highly recommend the 16" MacBook Pro M3 Max. It's a beast of a machine and it looks great, too, in Space Black.
