This holiday season I finally decided to upgrade from my Dell S2716DG to an ultrawide, and, after evaluating options at 34" and 38", I decided on the AW3821DW. Some of the features on this model that influence my purchase decision were the extra 4", the 21:10 aspect ratio (over 21:9) and the inclusion of the G-sync module. (Its fan is quieter than the fans in my mid-tower, so I've never actually heard it.)My monitor arrived in pristine condition, with no dead pixels. I like that I can control the AlienFX lighting in the monitor menu without having to install the Alienware software.My main complaints (which are minor in the grand scheme of things) are:- Mediocre contrast -- but this is true for basically all IPS panels.- Inability to do 10-bit at 144 Hz -- this is a limitation of DisplayPort 1.4. (You can still do 10-bit at 120 Hz.)- Lack of KVM feature or automatic input switching -- Dell seems to reserve this for productivity-focused monitors, but I really would have appreciated it on this one.- Rear lighting is on the stand rather than the panel -- I like this feature and would prefer to be able to keep it if/when I decide to arm-mount the monitor.- Monitor auto-install Alienware software. I was able to uninstall it manually, but I didn't appreciate this.I previously tried out the AW3420DW two years, but it gave me a terrible headache after approximately 10 minutes of use. Fortunately, I did not encounter that issue with the AW3821DW. I am very happy with this purchase. (I also really appreciate the 38" over the 34" format.) I expect this monitor to serve me well for years to come.

I was beside myself. i used it to play both PC games on my Aurora R7 as well as my series X. The PC and the Nvidia CPU were a total loss, but I thought the monitor was ok, but I was so very wrong. I just couldn't believe it. TO make It worse, both the PC and Monitor were 4 years old- out if warranty, Two days later I ordered this amazing Monitor. It was the one thing that made everything better. It's massive. The controls are so much easier to use. THe HDR is phenomenal. I just can't sat enough about how much I enjoy this Monitor. I love video games, such as simulators and FPS (GPU intensive), but often I need to deal with large spreadsheets, formulas, analytics etc. Thus, the reason I selected the Alienware family, during my search it came out as the most trustworthy machine with a great performance and a worthwhile premier support.I went for the whole bundle, X15 R2, keyboard, mouse, headset, chair, backpack, sleeve, and the AW3821D monitor. It achieves 3440 x 1440 resolution, basically a 4K (WQHD) for a wide (21:9) monitor with G-SYNC to be used with your NVIDIA card (mine is a 3080). Its design follows the family products with programmable lights on the support and at the Alienware face. There are several ports available, although, since I have a second computer dedicated to work only, I could use another USB upstream, same for a DP, nonetheless it has 2 HDMI ports which does the work, all USB ports are 3.2 (5MBPS) and 1 of them (downstream obviously) is a battery charging 1.2. The monitor is not light (27lbs), so ensure you have a sturdy surface to place it, the same goes to its V-shape base that requires a good space in front of the monitor, if you plan on placing it over some support, make sure you have the right measures, in exchange of the weight and large base you got a good handle on the movement of the screen to all directions (tilt and swivel). It has 2 USB ports and an audio line-out in front-below (under a convenience light) which is great to use with the Alienware keyboard (requires 2 USB ports - saving the other USB ports in the back for other devices). Since I use a Dragon Slayer soundbar I did not explore its sound capability, which I believe it is something that is missing in the Alienware family (Alienware soundbar), same goes for an NFC charging capable headset. The Alienware headset that I have requires a USB-C cable for charging and it does not come with a stand, which should be a simple but also add-on. Those 2 items would complete the Alienware set. This monitor is a must have to extract the most of your Alienware machine, or in case you are just an Alienware addict as I am :-).

I've put this monitor to regular very good use for everything from gaming to music production (amatuer!) to multiple pages of spreadsheets/websites, you name it. There is more than ample room, and you will be quite surprised at how much that little bit of extra height makes a difference. There's something about a top quality widescreen monitor like this that just seems to make work and play so much more relaxing.Being recently retired, most of my computer time is taken up with gaming. Pushing the Dell AW3821DW to the limit with hefty flight simulators and other graphics demanding games, I can say for certain that you will not be disappointed. Techie bit; what ever Dell have done with G-Sync, it's a major improvement.If you are looking for a high quality good looking work or gaming monitor, I honestly don't think you can go wrong here.This is just an honest review from someone who has spent far too much time infront of monitors. This is a very difficult review to write… first the monitor is excellent and a joy to use professionally and while gaming; however, the specs listed on the Canadian webpage differ from the AW3821DW’s actual specifications. Dell.CA clearly lists the monitor as supporting WQHD+ @ 120Hz over HDMI; however, I was never able to achieve this. I could manually force 120Hz but the AW3821DW would blank. Forcing 100Hz over HDMI the monitor works, but if the monitor sleeps it will not resume forcing a reboot. Hardly acceptable. The monitor is completely stable running 3840x1600 at 85Hz on HDMI – which coincidentally is the maximum HDMI refresh rate listed in all the Dell.COM American documentation. So either I was shipped an American version by mistake despite living and ... Further despite not having speakers it constantly tells my computer that it is an audio device.Nevertheless, the AW3821DW provides a vivid workspace with bright clear text. There is a bit of light bleed around the edges (mostly the right-hand side on my monitor) but I only really notice it on the desktop and rarely while watching videos. It is not noticeable during gaming. Its ability to play 4K movies without letterboxing is outstanding, although you do get the side bars on non-wide programing.Overall it is a fantastic monitor marred by poor (Canadian) documentation. While I do not regret my purchase, I very well could have ended up with a different model had it been advertised correctly. The AW3821DW tends to be cheaper than similar models but those have better specs (presuming they are listed correctly).

This monitor appeared to check all the boxes (high refresh rate, fast response, accurate color). It is IPS, so it does not have the absolute black blacks or lighting fast response of an OLED. Nitpicks IMHO. When it went on sale for $900, I decided to order it. Still pricey, but worth it IMHO.It did not disappoint. I have not edited photos with it yet but I have used it for work for about a month now, and done some gaming on it. Nice.This monitor replaces a 6-year-old Dell 24" monitor. That monitor still works great and has no dead or bright pixels. Qudos to Dell for their quality. The excellent warranty on this unit makes It evident that they are confident in their quality control.I have no complaint with this monitor. I use it 8-12 hours/day, and it is a joy. I would not hesitate to recommend it to a friend and would not hesitate to buy it again.

I went from a 24 + 27 inches screens to this and much prefer this new setup.One thing that isn't as good as having multiple screens is you can't use fullscreen as well as with 2 screens, you can't "halfscreen" something. I actually prefer this, it feels higher quality than the glossy easily scratched ultra white of competitors like the G9.The screen has a very mild anti glare coating, as someone who prefers glossy screens I can say it is acceptable and does not make things appear fuzzy like so many other anti glare screens do.Viewing angles are insane but being centered is obviously the best experience especially with the curve. The curve is somehow both barely noticeable and yet makes all the difference in the world. It does seem to reduce eye strain over a flat monitor without being distracting like the G7. Having used both I believe this is a better looking display than the G7 and it's hard taco shell curve.The dimming and HDR are... not the best (HDR on in the Mass Effect Legendary Edition of ME2 looked like horribly over dark and gloomy) but even without HDR on the blacks are very rich and contrast is vibrant, space scenes look quite accurate with no distracting bloom around bright objects in space (like the Normandy) and IPS glow is very minimal, extremely immersive for gaming.Pixel density is very high I cannot see individual cells until I am 10"/25cm or closer and the panel itself is about an inch taller than my 27" 1440p (now second) monitor.Getting an average of 85fps in the BF2042 Beta on high settings with a RTX3090 GPU so it is a somewhat demanding panel to drive though not quite as bad as a 4K panel however it looks so good I would definitely choose this ultra wide over a 4K panel any day.I had no idea this monitor had a cooling fan until someone else considering purchase asked me if I could hear it so, no I definitely cannot, and it doesn't seem to get any warmer than my 27" 1440p TN (Also a Dell, S2716DG but I don't want to confuse reviews so I will leave my mostly neutral opinions on that panel out.) In fact by my IR thermometer it actually runs about 10F cooler.Not the monitors fault per say but it does somewhat break immersion when pre rendered cut scenes jump back to 16:9 from 21:9 gameplay and not all games support (or in the case of RE4 HD Remaster not supported well) the 3440x1600 resolution but it plays in 16:9 resolutions with border bars beautifully.A nice feature would be the ability to left or right justify the image if you play a lot of 16:9 only titles to even out pixel duty, or even allow for the border bar color to be changed to work as key lighting for streaming or such.Just a thought.Last gripe WHY DO I NEED MORE BLOAT ON MY PC JUST TO CHANGE THE STAND AND ACCENT RGB COLORS WHY ISN"T THAT PART OF THE BUILT IN OSD!?In my honest opinion if you can get this when it's on sale, as I did, then it is worth the money and you get the performance and experience you pay for, though still expensive so not a bargain, even on saleStill, by far the best monitor I have owned.

Make sure you have a nice stable table with plenty of space. There is also no internal speaker, but I am guessing that is because people have their different preferences as to how they prefer their sound, and the monitor is already heavy. I recently bought Logitech speakers for when I plan to not use my headphones. Both negatives were obviously not a deal breaker for me.In all this monitor does everything I want it to do and has everything that I wished it would have. I can use it for gaming, binging on some shows or for the business that must be taken care of. It's all good.
This is an expensive monitor that was stripped of all useful multitaksing and productivty features found on similarly sized gaming monitors by other brands. If you just game on it, It's great, but it will not work out of the box with almost any device. It is very senstive to the DP cable used. (Had to cycle through the included and 2 other DP cables before one worked) Does not work with a dedicated 4K blu-ray payer or gaming console - or at least I couldn't get it to work after trying various adpaters. Works well with Mac computers and Windows ones though. The screen is really beautiful, but sadly it is relatively low contrast for something in this price range in 2023 and HDR is really hit and miss. Have never owned a more problematic Dell monitor before, and have owned dozens over the last two decades. Sadly it did not meet my needs and had to be returned.
