I have always been sceptical about soundbars and subwoofers but recently purchased the Sennheiser Ambeo Max soundbar from Richer Sounds in Leeds. This was to enhance watching TV movies and the results were excellent! What i didn't expect was to be absolutely amazed at how the subwoofer has enhanced my Hi-Fi system!! I thought my system was already great but using the Speakon cable form my main speaker terminals to the sub has added another dimension to the sound, not only in the deep and defined base notes but also in the rest of the mid-range notes. I have spent a couple of hours playing CD as well as Hi-Res music files with and without the sub and find myself absorbed in this new sound! My wife who normally finds it hard to distinguish between my system upgrades agreed that this was a distinct improvement so enough said!!

The short version is that a pair of these Rels added to my Rotel A11 Tribute amp and Monitor Audio Silver 100 7gâs makes a palpable difference. The sound I get now is richer, like warm chocolate. Body and character are added to almost everything. Often the difference is subtle, but try the same track with them on and off, and itâs easy to hear that with them off something is missing. So if you want to improve your sound, without going to floor-standers, and have a medium sized room, I can recommend these Rels used as a pair. After much deliberation with James at RS Southampton, who was very helpful, I took a chance on a pair of Rels. Seeking to enhance the already excellent sound from my system. I had been using a Sonos amp, which was convenient and sounded very good, but acting on Jamesâs suggestion I swapped out the Sonos from my lounge with the Rotel A11 Triute Iâd been using in my office. I was surprised at how much nicer the Rotel sounded. Adding the Relâs further enhanced what my partner and I were hearing. Old CDâs had a new lease of life (using another purchase from RS, in the form of a Rotel CD player) and music streamed through the other purchase this time, an AudioLab 7000n has never sounded so good.Rel and to some extent RS are evangelical about this range of subs. But they are not wrong in terms of the quality being delivered. I did not get on so well with the Rel YT videos, as they all boil down to flick the phase switch one way or the other, fiddle with the crossover/gain controls, and if possible shift the position of the Rels. Rel seem to think everyone can place these units where the units are happiest, as opposed to where they will fit. By far the best most helpful and most honest explanation/ review is on YT under the title âDo You Want Rel T5x In A Stereo Systemâ by someone called iiWi Reviews. The link for that is here. https://youtu.be/rNQEf9V4SIU?feature=sharedI must also make clear that Rel are old school. They are missing a trick by not having a switch to use either manual or app setup. There is no app. So getting these to work optimally with your system, involves a lot of manual twiddling, making micro adjustments then moving back to your listening position. So best done when the other half is out. Something with good bass, such as the full version of âPapa Was A Rollinâ Stoneâ by the Temptations, or âSafe From Harmâ by Massive Attack are great for those adjustments. Once done, itâs worth the effort.

I purchased the REL T/5x in white to accompany a Cambridge Audio AXR85 receiver and B&W DM310 speakers. The subwoofer adds bass extension to the 2-way speakers that can't otherwise be achieved. The REL works seamlessly with the system overall. I used the high level connection with the zero compression wireless. A nice option to avoid dealing with a cable. I'm still not sure if the sub is perfectly tuned or not, but I think it's pretty close. It's sitting in close proximity to the speakers so the impression is the sound is coming from them and not the sub. Moving the REL further away diminishes this illusion. Overall, I feel the quality is very high and I like the diminutive scale and unobtrusiveness of the unit. Even at low volume, I can hear the bass effect and it makes the whole system sound a little richer. REL's claims are valid and I'm very pleased with the purchase. I would not hesitate to recommend the brand, especially for 2 channel musical setups like mine.

I needed to buy a new subwoofer to replace my aging Mordaunt-Short one which finally stopped working after many years of service. I wasn't completely sure what to replace it with as being part of a surround speaker system I always felt it balanced well with the speakers, I discussed the options with Tony in the store who walked me through the different subwoofers that would match my Mordaunt-Short Alumni speakers.I eventually settled on the REL T5x and I am very pleased that I did. The sound is far more subtle and balances very well with the speakers. The sound is far more subtle and balances very well with the speakers. It takes a little bit longer to set it up as the system allows it to be connected to both the front surround speakers via a supplied cable and the LFE channel at the same time. This has the effect of gving more bass to front speakers as well as working with the LFE channel for surround sound effects. The manual takes you through the set up to balance the speakers with subwoofer first to get the bass balanced. I was amazed at how much better this made the speakers sound when listening to music. I then plugged in the LFE cable and went through the normal surround set up on my amp. This uses a different control on the back of the amp meaning that both music and films are always working the subwoofer at the most optimum level.Overall I am very impressed with the quality of the subwoofer. Value for money is always subjective and it is not the cheapest out there, but the quality of the sound is superb and this has added so much more to the sound quality of my set up than I imagined it would.Once again, the service I got from the staff in Richer Sounds was excellent and is the reason I keep coming back.
Went into the Leeds store with a set budget of £250.00 and the intention of walking out with an active sub to match a set of Wharfedale 505.2's and Tibo amp I own. I talked with Ahmed about my requirement and budget: an in-stock sub, with smooth rounded bass, serious low-end frequency capability and not break the bank. He patiently went through all the options with me and it became clear that I was asking too much for the budget I set in my head. So I asked Ahmed what would I get if I spent a little more and was in stock so I could go home with my new toy. A few options later he showed me the REL T5x. It was love at first sight....amazing piano black mirror finish, compact, wide frequency range and serious power. I had to have it....but it was £400 over my budget. Now, when I'm in a store with an intention to buy, I often leave due to a hard-sell sales person doing-my-nut-in. However, Ahmed was just extremely helpful, I got the impression he really wanted to help me with something within my budget and guided through all the online in-stock items and other store in-stock items. I liked this a lot, it reassured me and gave me confidence that he wasn't just trying to sell sell sell!. At no point was there any hard-sell, which is a major put-off for me, (I work in sales), he was very informative and tried to find the best deal possible. Long story short - I bought the RELit was not only because its the Ferrari of subs, but because the service from Ahmed was outstanding. I will be coming back again, purely because he was so helpful. Thanks Ahmed! The Sub - outstanding - the bass is immediate, no delay, clear yet full, solid and punchy. You really have to hear it to understand how responsive it is.The included guide - I don't know if any other manufacturers include the same level as detail, but the REL instruction/installation manual included with the sub is a comprehensive guide for various configurations with amps, and, location placement within your room and recommended tuning guide. I followed it step-by-step and quickly found the perfect location and settings (crossover, gain and phase). If you're wanting something serious, compact, and can stretch to the price....I can't recommend this sub enough...Very happy customer (unlike my neighbours!)
The initial response of my family to the installation of the T/5x - Black was positive. It is being used to augment a pair of THIEL SC 1.2 Loudspeakers and REGA IO Integrated Amplifier to provide audio for our Samsung 32 - inch television instead of using a sound bar. There was a problem with the T/5x Sub Bass System humming during the installation, but that was resolved by viewing the appropriate âHow to Videoâ. Also note, that corner placement of the sub behind the THIEL Loudspeakers in our living room was a no go from the beginning. Placement of the T/5x is to the right of our recliner (approximately 8 feet from the TV) near a corner created by the right room wall and the staircase.I feel that I have very realistic expectations of what the T/5x can bring to the ... MoreThe initial response of my family to the installation of the T/5x - Black was positive. It has the right balance of price, performance and looks. It just might be the best looking piece of furniture in the room. I also, appreciate itâs downward firing 8 inch woofer and compact physical size. Fine tuning of the T/5x Sub Bass System with my room and loudspeakers is pretty much complete in my humble opinion. Finally, I am very happy with my purchase of my third REL Subwoofer.
I originally purchased the T5X to go with some bookshelf speakers. What I first did was try it in my system with my Wharfedale Linton's which were already set up. This was done with the phase and level controls along with various music sources (cd, FM, Reel to Reel, digital, and vinyl). Using different sources in that way works well. Once at a happy medium what I thought the REL did was bring out the Linton's overall presence in a nice way from highs to lows. This was done with the T5X set at a "just there" presence itself. I would definitely buy another one. Build quality and the ability to dial it in are great. REL support is excellent also.
This is exactly what I was looking for.I meant to improve the stereo sound from My Home Theater Retriever (Arcam) and get the job done. Connection and configuration is very simple. With the second cable, we connect it directly to the subwoofer output in the reciver I have a second larger one for home theater (Polk) they work together very well. This subwoofer is made to improve your stereo system. I highly recommend it, you will not be disappointed!!!

A few common sense additions like input selection indicators for the knobs will go a long way. Surprised that there were no visual indicators, that would really help rather than âset the volume at 14 clicks and crossover at 8 clicks with the knobâ. Also the online advice to place the sub isnât really gonna work if you arenât a rabid audiophile (spend hours setting up and listening and adjusting) and unless you have a dimensionally accurate âlistening roomâ. My real works scenario is a finished basement with real world shapes and dimensions where the room opens up to a larger space. I canât keep it in a corner, period. The high level input is grossly overrated and to my untrained ears, a gimmick. Rel should probably supply a high quality cable instead, again just my opinion as itâs my review! If I had the budget I would have bought the 7 or 9x or bought something with more power ( at least in paper) but less expensive.Bottom line - do your research, you may love it or be left wondering why you didnât try other models/makes in similar category. Will probably use it for couple of years and see if REl have an exchange program similar to svs
I was looking for a musical sub(subs) to strengthen the low end of my paradigm speakers. The reviews on this particular sub were almost all positive. I started off with a single sub and was amazed at the difference in the frequency spectrum. So I decided to add a second sub. Placement is not critical, but affects the soundstage dramatically. Mine are not placed the way they should be as my room wonât allow it. But after adjusting the crossover and volume level, I was still able to get them to merge with the speakers without the âboomyâ junk you get with home theater subs. On a side note, I also added an inexpensive Douk Audio T 8 pro tube equalizer, what an improvement. Itâs like I have a new system!
