Remo Controlled Sound Coated Bottom Black Dot Drum Head 13"
Controlled Sound Introduced in 1968, Controlled Sound heads are single ply Ambassador-weight heads with a 5 mil thick black dot in the center of the head. This combination offers a controlled, centered sound without undesirable overtones. These dual-zone heads have a combination of medium and heavy-duty drumhead characteristics. The outer area of the head's playing surface offers a mid-range tone and sensitivity while the laminated center dot eliminates high frequency overtones and adds durability and tonal focus to meet the demands of heavier hitters. Controlled Sound X The Controlled Sound X is constructed of a coated 12-mil film with a 5-mil reverse dot. Featuring 20% more durability and tone control, drummers will experience more controlled mid range tones which is ideal for higher frequency snare drums. The Controlled Sound X is great for live and studio applications.

I Just Recently Purchased A Brand New Pearl Limited Edition Snare Drum, And The Head It Came With (UT I Believe) Was Slowly Starting To Break. I Put This Head On Tight (My Personal Snare Preference) And Started Playing Around With It. Here Is A List of Things To Keep In Mind When Purchasing This Head. Pros: 1. I was never a fan of uncontrolled over ring when playing a snare drum. I used studio rings or moon gel to muffle the sound (I'm not a heavy hitting rocker). I would remove the studio ring for brush work (especially when I tangled the ring and a brush while playing) which is an annoyance. This Remo head allows me to play sans studio ring with just a little bit of over ring that sounds OK for me.The center dot does the trick.

I really like these heads for my snare drums. Great rim shots with healthy attack and nice open tone outside of the dot, closer to the rim makes this head very versatile. For toms/bass I like to use clear black dot but for snare I really like my coated black dot heads.

My snare sounds so much better now. Great price and fast cheap shipping. I gave five stars for features although it doesn't really have any - it's just a drum skin after all, but didn't want to mark it down in any way as I'm very happy with my purchase.
I needed to darken the sound of my Gretsch Catalina snare drum. I found that the Catalina seemed sensitive with almost a metal snare sound. It really didn't wholly sound like a deep wood sounding drum (no doubt the mahogany wood shell). I discussed this with the Ash drum department and found the Black Dot might be my answer...as it is right now I've got the exact sound I want from the drum. Good solid snare feel for brush work. And, nice sound with a light touch with sticks in a small setting. I can't say enough about how knowledgeable the staff provided on such a small personal item. The coated control black dot by Remo was the right choice for the Catalina.
I bought this drumhead recently after switching from Evans to Remo, and it sounds amazing. However I did get a faulty product first time round, but that was quickly corrected by the PMT customer service after I submitted a complaint. Now I have my new one and it works great!
Since I was turned on to this type of snare batter head many years ago, I have never had to change anything about my set up. It really is what it's described to be: "controlled sound". Takes a beating and at the same time gives you a wide range of dynamics and really brings out the true sound of the shell.
After trying a few different snare drum heads, I noticed the CS coated Black Dot being used by some of my favorite drummers. I'm glad I gave them a try! These will be my goto snare head for the foreseeable future. I've got a 14" and a 12" snare drum and they sound great and are quite versatile .
Great head all around. The Emperor X was just a bit too heavy duty and this head offered a better response and more versatility in playing style. Only snare head weve used for years. Remo for the win!
I purchased a Tama kit a couple years ago. I wasn't too impressed with the sound of the snare. For a while,I would put a dish towel on top just to muffle out some of the ring and overtones. I ordered this snare head online and installed it. It cured the problem.I don't have to use the towel anymore.
