rescueME AIS MOB1
Ocean Signal RescueMe AIS MOB1 is a very small and lightweight AIS distress transmitter with DSC function. It is maintenance free for 7 years and equipped with a 66 channel GPS receiver. It is as expected. A necessary safety item at a good price. Only criticism are the instruction diagrams make it longer to prepare for us.

I bought the device primarily due to it's AIS capability. When sailing offshore, in combination with an AIS-plotting device on the host sailboat, this presents a very solid pairing. The DSC capability was a secondary benefit.I am pleased with the size of the device -- it's light and compact. I keep it inside my offshore PFD on a lanyard, such that it remains with me anytime I am topside.

Programming the unit with your boat's MMSI number so that it also sends an alarm on your MMSI enabled VHF radio is an excersize in total frustration. Many, many attempts on multiple devices to get it programmed. When I needed to reprogram it with a new MMSI, I had no success. Customer support from Ocean Signals was virtually non-existent. Too many small, easily lost pieces to program and rewind the antenna. I lost the little rubber piece that you need to program the device; getting a new one was painful.

A MOB is required for an offshore sailing race that I'm doing in June! It is a nice compact model that fits in a life jacket pocket.
I have bought this product prior to taking part in the 2023 ARC. The device appears to be well made and was easy to program and fit to the lifejacket - provided you ignore the user manual provided with the device. I used a Youtube tutorial by "Captain Chris" and this was much more useful. Obviously, I won't know how well the device works until it's used in anger - which I hope never happens!
Bought two of these as Christmas presents to each other for my Wife and me as we are liveaboards on a sailing boat.I found the instructions for setup and installation into the life jackets very clear and simple to follow.
Good price and easy installation
I hope to never use this, but it is easy to program and install (look at the YouTube videos, and review from the person who lost theirs when it deployed did not attach it correctly). Small and lite and out of the way.
I purchased this with some concern regarding a negative comment stating: "tether and clip stayed on the jacket manual inflate tube and the unit itself popped out of the holder and went to the bottom of the sea." It's the first thing I checked and I'm happy to say that this is not possible if the installation instructions were followed. The one tether connects the life jacket inflate tube to the holder and then to the MOB1. See the image from the instruction book. I like it a lot!
Pricey item but can be a life saver. Very compact. We plan to use it as a "pass the baton" device while on overnight or watch keeping passages. Have clip on lanyard to clip to each of our pfds as we pass the baton.Took 3 tries to program DSC MMSI number but not as difficult to me as reported by other reviewer.Provides safety and peace of mind and does not rely upon others for self-rescue for a MOB situation.
