Brought a year ago. From the start once it dried it’s been very dusty. I worry about all the sand dust that the kids breathe in. It’s not like beach sand.

Best sand for sandpits and sandbags

For a small sandpit, this sand is the best around we haven’t ever had any issues with it. With the recent floods in Shepparton we used them as sand bags. Luckily we were not affected by water.

Good clean sand Does not stain grandkids clothes

Great product. Good quality and does not stain grandkids hands or clothes. Dries well and reusable. Would be great if smaller packs as 20kg bit heavy to carry for grandparents who only require for sand and water table. Parents sometimes too. Thanks Great price.

Moldy sand
25 June 2022

I have been to 3 of your stores on the Gold Coast and all of this product is grey - one of them actually had the original sand colour spots turning grey. I ask if they had changed the product to grey instead of the sand colour which I had previously bought (also you can see in photos of other reviews) they said the product hasn't been changed. They said because it is wet that's the colour it changes to - I don't understand how a sealed bag with tiny vent holes can get wet inside, also my sand pit was wet and never turned this grey colour. With the recent weather we've had after a few days of the rain I covered the sand pit, with resulting the sand had turned black. Nice sterile sand
17 May 2023

Bought a dozen bags for a big sandpit and probably needed double that volume in the end. Great sand but extremely dusty is the only downside but there really isn’t any other option besides this for sterile sand. It’s great but wish it was in bigger volumes, and sifted a bit better, my 7 year old loves it so can’t truly complain.

Perfect for family sandpit!
23 August 2021

Bought for family Sandpit. The sand is clean, white and just the right amount of moisture. Yes some people want super dry sand but for us, sand with a little moisture is perfect for making sand castles. Would definitely recommend for others to use based on our experience.

Play Sand
4 June 2023

While I am overall happy with the sand itself, I find I have immense trouble moving it to where it needs to be due to the weight. I am 62 years old with arthritis and to get the sand to my grandchildren's sandpit is like trying to move Mt Everest for me! I do wish it came in half-size packs which somebody like me could actually lift. I resort to dragging it through the house to get it to the back yard. Please consider making half-size, lighter packs!

Play Sand value for money
19 August 2022

Hi, I have been buying Richgro Play Sand for over 12 months from Bunnings. Originally the sand was white and dry, but over recent months it has been progressively getting more and more wet, and the colour is now grey (that’s not because it’s wet). And I believe the price has also increased. The packaging has always stated it as 20kg Net Weight. I wonder if this 20kg includes the weight of the added water/moisture.

Potentially Hazardous - Exercise Caution
28 April 2023

I bought six bags of this sand after moving interstate and having previously used it without issue. When I emptied the sand into the sandpit and allowed my child to start playing in it, I noticed that it was giving off a significant amount of dust and contained traces of woodchips. I reviewed the hazard statement on Bunnings' website and found that the manufacturer indicates dust within the sand is hazardous, but should not be present as it has been 'washed'. It also advises users to avoid breathing the dust, which is no doubt something most users of child play sand would be unable to effectively do with reliability.I returned the sand to Bunnings who gave me new sand, but demonstrated little concern with the potentially hazardous nature of it, despite the ... MoreI bought six bags of this sand after moving interstate and having previously used it without issue. It also advises users to avoid breathing the dust, which is no doubt something most users of child play sand would be unable to effectively do with reliability.I returned the sand to Bunnings who gave me new sand, but demonstrated little concern with the potentially hazardous nature of it, despite the manufacturer's warning. They looked at this, but informed me that no other parent had expressed concern with the sand. I indicated that because I had previously used the product in another state, I was probably more likely to be aware of any differences in the sand between moves, and previously there had never been dust observed. My concern was that this could have been a batch issue that other parents might not have been aware of. I was concerned about the potential for silicon particles in this dust, so I suggested this be indicated to Bunnings management or the manufacturer. I was told it would be, but no information was taken from me. The new bags I have purchased also give off dust and will be returned, and a complaint lodged.
